  • The experience was great and satisfying
Size: 8000BTU Color: White
The cooling effect of this portable air conditioner is really amazing! When added to an ice pack, it quickly releases bursts of cool and fills the room with a fresh atmosphere. It has a remote control range of an amazing 26 feet, allowing me to easily control it from any corner of my home. Whether cooking in the kitchen or hanging clothes on the balcony, I can adjust the temperature and wind speed at any time. This convenient operation experience made me very happy with this portable air conditioner. ... show more

  • Very impressed
Size: 8000BTU Color: White
First off I am very grateful that it came it came 5 days sooner than what was originally told to me. It was 90 degrees outside today and very humid. I set it up immediately. Set up was pretty easy too. My apartment is about 650 square feet. I have 2 ceiling fans on and 1 of my floor fans facing up to circulate the air. OMG what a difference. Cool off the apartment nicely. ... show more

  • Excellent performance overall, but definitely has some issues
Size: 8000BTU Color: White
I've had this portable air conditioner for about five weeks, and I have used it daily ever since it arrived (and had the proper 24-hour settling period). OVERALL IMPRESSION: Very good! The unit has worked very well from the start. It had only one day when it was really struggling (more under CONS below). I have used the unit only for AC, not to dehumidify. I also have never used the SLEEP function. The unit is light enough that I was able to put it on a raised box by myself, and it promptly switches itself on and off as needed based on the chosen temperature. It does not have an LED screen you can see unless you are standing over the unit or can see the top of the unit. It also does not have an app with it or anything like that. It has kept my bedroom at the temperature I wanted almost the entire time, and it has allowed me to sleep comfortably even while keeping the rest of my house MUCH warmer to reduce overall cooling costs. I would definitely buy it again. PROS: 1) The unit was WELL packaged when it arrived and had zero scratches, broken parts, etc. Everything was there and in perfect condition. 2) The unit cools down the room FAST, especially when on MAX fan mode. It accurately measures the temperature in the room and comes on and goes off promptly. 3) The controls both on the unit and on the remote are easy to read and easy to figure out. 4) The unit is excellent at taking excess moisture out of the air (see also CONS) 5) The unit makes a beeping noise when you use the remote, so you know the unit is receiving the signal and you don't even have to see the controls on top to know it's working. 6) It has been well above 90F recently and even then, as long as the unit gets a "head start" on making the room cool before it gets hot out for the day, it can maintain the temperature quite well. 7) The unit is surprisingly quiet for as powerful as it is. If you are good with "white noise" in your bedroom, then this definitely qualifies. I do have APD, and background noise makes it harder for me to hear, so I do have to increase the volume on any devices I use in the room, but honestly it's not bad at all. 8) The plug. It is a three-prong plug but has two buttons on it that make it way better than a normal one. The first is an "on/off" button; the second is a button that allows you to cut the electricity to the unit completely and instantly. For instance, I use a microwave oven on the same circuit as the AC unit. If I tried to run both units at the same time, the circuit breaker would be tripped and I would have to go to the basement to reset it. By pressing the "cut electricity" button, I can keep the unit plugged in, but safely truly turned off, while I run the microwave. Once the oven is no longer running, I can hit the "on" button again and the unit will start running within two seconds. I've never had an appliance with this type of plug and I absolutely love it. 9) The unit looks pretty nice (I got the white one) and is easy to wipe down to keep the dust off. CONS: 1) There is no way to lock the wheels to prevent the unit from moving too easily. If you are going to have it elevated, like me, or on a gentle slope, you either have to set heavy items in front of the wheels to prevent rolling/falling, or put rails on the elevating block to prevent it from accidentally rolling forward off the block. 2) The lights on top of the unit are quite bright, so if you have trouble sleeping with lights in the room, you will have to cover them up with a magazine or something similar. 3) The drainage hose is very short and makes it very difficult to drain the unit properly unless you have the floor drain or drainage container very close to the unit. I use two 9-quart (8.5 liter) buckets. I put the drain hose in the front one, and once it fills up I move the drain hose to the back bucket. Then I can dump the front bucket and put it in the back. That way, the heavier bucket is always in front. 4) The unit is actually TOO good at getting moisture out of the air. If you don't have room for a large drainage container and live in a very humid climate like I do, then you will find yourself switching/dumping buckets 3-5 times a day. If you don't check frequently, you will end up with serious spills. The answer is to either find a longer drainage hose or a larger drainage container, but it is definitely extra work regardless of the solution you come up with. 5) The vent hose that goes to the window is difficult to "lock in" (you twist the end caps on), and once it's locked in, if the unit is moved at all, the hose tends to pop off the endcaps very easily. It's much less flexible than you would think. I’ve read that other people use liberal amounts of duct tape to keep the vent hose in place. 6) The plastic pieces that go in the window to block off the space around the heat vent don't fit together as narrowly as they say on the product page. Supposedly my window worked in the width range listed, but I ended up having to put a piece of cardboard in the window hole instead of the sliding piece because it was too long. I tried to cut it to make it fit, but nothing I have will completely cut through the (very hard) plastic. So just realize that if you have a window on the narrow end of the spectrum, you need to make sure you can either use foam, cardboard, etc. to plug the window hole, OR borrow or buy a tool that will cut through the plastic slider piece. 7) When you use the remote, you have to first hit the temperature button you want once, hear the beep, and THEN it will do what you want. So if you want to reduce the temperature by two degrees, you have to hit the DOWN TEMP button once, then two more times to get the reduction you want. I figured this one out the hard way, but once you know, it's not a big deal. 8) The actual brand on the unit is COSTWAY, not the company listed. I only list this as a con because it was unexpected. I think the actual brand of the unit should be in the listing. JMO. 9) If you are experiencing very hot temperatures and the room and the outside are both very hot, the unit is not going to cool down the room very much. Once the sun sets and the outside temperature goes down, the unit will begin cooling down the room and by the time sunrise hits the next day you should be “all caught up” and not have more issues. I found this out the hard way when the heat vent popped out of the endcap on the unit itself and all of that heat started pouring into the room on a day over 90F. The room took many hours to settle back down once I discovered the problem. Again, overall, this unit is excellent and works well even when the ambient outside temperature is over 90F as long as it has a good head start. It does have drawbacks, most of which are universal among portable air conditioners. Knowing the cons and being prepared for them will help the unit work better for you; it certainly has for me. ... show more

  • Good unit easy to use, cools well
Size: 8000BTU Color: White+Black
This unit is very easy to use and to install. All you need is a window and an ability to use the window, duct and hose that comes with the air conditioner. I am happy with the way that it cools and how compact it is.

  • Revised after 3 months of use - DO NOT BUY. Revised after 3 months of use - DO NOT BUY.
Size: 8000BTU Color: White
Adding to the below: This unit does NOT fare well under temperatures higher than 90 degrees. The heat it outputs through the exhaust vent is too much for it to overcome. On low, it's not as noticeable, but when on high, the room gets hot QUICKLY. After being set to 74 degrees on high in a room that's about 100sqft literally all day, the temperature went from 77 to 86. The temperature outside was between 90-95 most of the day. It has also developed an insanely annoying, high-pitched whine that is incessant. My power consumption spikes crazy high while it's running. The hardwood floor under the unit gets so hot, my office smells like a sauna when it's running. There is no way to actually direct the air flow; the tiny plastic control does literally nothing, and a ton of air still pours out the left-hand side. I had to put a towel along the bottom of my office door because the cold air just gets vomited out the front and dropped on the floor (cold air sinks, Costway; why is this so terribly difficult to understand?) Utter garbage, not worth the cost. Save yourself; run. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I wish I could give this unit 3.5 stars, because it's not good enough for a 4 but it doesn't warrant knocking down to a 3, either. Thus, I gave it the benefit of the doubt. For now - I may come back. The unit arrived yesterday, and I let it sit for the required 24 hours before fully installing. After turning the unit on for the first time, I could immediately feel my office room cooling down quickly from 80 degrees - excellent. The window kit is my biggest gripe: The sliding guard initially seemed it like would fit into my fairly standard windows (~31" wide) just fine, but then I realized it was protruding into the opening for the exhaust hose connector by several inches and needed to be cut down. The slider is a very hard plastic, so if you need to cut it down, you'll need a hacksaw, Dremel tool, or other strong cutting implement to allow everything to be installed properly. You'll also likely want weather stripping (not included.) The plastic connectors on both ends of the exhaust hose are sturdy and firmly clip into place, which is great; however, the cheap, plastic exhaust hose itself is uninsulated and dumps an absolute ton of heat right back into the room. Further, the hose creases too easily at any bending point, causing it to fail to recompress properly unless I disconnect it, reach in, and push it back out from the inside. I'll be replacing this immediately with something insulated, which is a nuisance but not a deal-breaker for this price. There is no supplied foam or weather stripping, so you're on your own with sealing the cracks in the window kit to snug everything up (pretty bothered by that, as I don't keep weather stripping around the house, but I guess I'll pick some up when I get the insulated hose) and you'll need it - simply snugging the window down on top of the thing isn't sufficient to keep it fitting smoothly - gaps everywhere. The supplied water drainage tube is just absolutely insanely short at 27 inches. This wasn't as big a deal as I feared, because the unit doesn't need continuous drainage when in cooling mode if the humidity isn't high - or so it says, we'll see. If I did live somewhere with more humidity, I would have to find a new tube that I could run out the window rather than dump into a bucket (and have to change that out often.) The "sleep" mode ONLY dims the lights and sets the fan to "low;" it does not quiet or otherwise alter the low fan speed at all, and there is no way to turn off the lights that I can see. That was all disappointing, but it's not overly loud when positioned more than a few feet away, I can put tape over the lights, and again, it's not a terribly expensive unit, so I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable. It rolls easily on the castors (which thankfully required no installation, that was a nice touch,) it was incredibly well-packaged and undamaged on arrival. The instructions are easy to read and clear. The primary louvers on the front do NOT point up at all - down or flat/horizontal is the best they can do, which is problematic in the space where I have it - it has to either blow directly onto me or onto a bunch of delicate houseplants, and neither the plants nor I are crazy about being in a freezing cold draft directly. I'd much rather have it blow up as much as possible and then let the cool air sink down. There is one vertical louver about 1/3 of the way from the right that can redirect a small stream of air to the right only - there is no way to aim the airflow left without turning the whole unit. I may see about replacing the front louvers entirely with something better suited for my use case. I suppose I could aim it at the floor and let the ceiling fans bring up the cool air from there, but that's so inefficient and shouldn't have to be the case. When the desired temperature is reached, the compressor turns off, leaving the fan running. Pros and cons to this, depending upon what you want. Rereading this, I'm questioning my 4 stars. Hm. At the end of the day, it does its job of cooling the room down, warts and all. For now, I'll leave the 4 and edit later if need be. ... show more
