This product is indeed beautiful, smells of wonderful cedar, and I love how the top opens. However they changed the design recently which makes the product impossible to recommend! The floor used to have support beams to support the weight of your pet, but now those supports are gone. The floor moves and creaks under the weight of my dog (68 pounds) and scares her. Even if your dog is in the weight limit (which they recently lowered to 75 pounds), if your dog is like mine... a dog... and likes to circle around and flop down, I believe this will weaken the wood and screws and it could eventually fail (I noticed this already happened in another review, and that reviewer included pictures). DO NOT let your kids in the house (which they will want to do). When the wood breaks, sharp screws will be exposed. If you do have this house with a bigger dog, please make sure you have a thick mat (although that will add to the weight) to protect your dog if the wood fails. I am going to try to build something to reinforce the floor like the old design, but I'm not really handy. It is too much work to disassemble and send this back. Had I known about this design change, I would not have bought this house for my dog - even as beautiful as it is. ... show more

SERIOUSLY GREAT. I recommend this product to anyone. Especially senior dogs. A large and small dog EASILY and HAPPILY fit. Best purchase ever.

From all the other reviews, images, etc it seemed that this was going to be a good buy. I was wrong. The parts are cheap, the construction is flimsy, and I guarantee this won't survive the test of time. The worst part of this design is the flooring inside, which basically just rests in place and provides little stability, and the support legs that go under it aren't measured properly so the floorboards don't sit evenly. The support legs didn't even have pre-drilled holes, just cheap wood that the screws plunge right into...which means they'll tear right back out with the slightest force. This was not worth the price, I'm going to have to replace it soon enough. Would NOT recommend. ... show more

Update: The Company was super apologetic and asked how my dog was doing. They issued a refund and paid part of my dogs vet bill. Overall great customer service, just got a faulty product. Updated my overall rating from a 1 to a 3 due to the great customer service. I bought this dog house because it looked nice and sturdy, and had good reviews. I bought the large so that my dog would have plenty of space, he’s only 30 lbs. Unfortunately the base has completely broken after 4 months. Prior to us discovering this, the exposed nails stabbed my dog and we had to take him to the emergency vet. Hopefully we just received a bad dog house because I don’t understand how a medium size dog could break a dog house design to hold very large dogs. ... show more

Our 90 lb German Shepherd has gone through 3 dog houses. These dog houses look VERY similar to this product, but were purchased at a store for Smart Pets. Despite the 60 lb weight limit, we went with it. Our 8 year old, German Shepherd is basically Snoopy and loves to lay on TOP of the dog house. Needless to say, the 3, 60lb limit dog houses eventually succumbed to wear and tear of our beloved Albie jumping on and off. Even the inside, which had a VERY similar slat-floor system would break down due to weight. This dog house arrived yesterday and can say it is a completely different class of dog house. The cross bars on the bottom give an incredible amount of rigidity to the base. My concerns of the slat flooring wearing out are alleviated. The Roof is made of much thicker siding material and I'm certain will support her 90 lb weight for a much longer period than the previous 3 models purchased elsewhere. ... show more

Love the dog house. We needed something off the ground since we occasionally get water up on the porch and didn't want our dog sleeping in a wet bed. This dog house appears sturdy, the roofing shingle top is not only classy but functional, the lifting lid is much appreciated by myself and my husband so that we don't have to crawl into the dog house to change out the bedding. Our dog took to it immediately. The bottom of the dog house is slatted so there is an opportunity for venting, that would be great on hot days, we just slapped a bed down over it as soon as we got the dog house though. The dyed wood is tasteful and the white trim is very classy. It was a breeze to put together and is strong enough to handle the rough spinning and clumsiness of our big silly loving dog. ... show more

    • Poor quality wood and floor design - Not worth $199

This ends up being an ok frame for a dog house. Isn’t insulated and the wood is less than half an inch thick. I would have been ok with it all if we didn’t have to add stability to the floor and redo the slats for it. Whoever designed the floor needs to make adjustments. The slats bend and creak by pushing your hand down on them. The legs in the middle aren’t enough support considering the beams the slats are screwed to don’t screw into the frame of the house. The slats put close together wouldn’t have fit perfectly across the floor so they added about 2/8 between each slat. How is that supposed to help during the cold? When I took them off the beam and placed them together there was 1 1/2 left that I had to fill with wood I had to make the floor not have gaps. I am a mom and teacher and didn’t want to spend a day or two making my own dog house. I’m disappointed this didn’t live up to the price. Poor quality wood and floor design. Not worth the amount spent. Should have returned it when I first opened it. ... show more
