    • Great Car Harness that is Comfortable for my Schnauzer

This harness works great for my mini schnauzer. I purchased a medium and it seems to be a great fit for her. She is 20 pounds and pretty broad in structure, so I sized up. The quality of this product is very good. The inside of the harness is mesh and padded, my dog doesn't seem to mind the way it feels so it must be at least decently comfortable for her. (She doesn't try to get it off of her or anything like that.) I like the slick material on the outside as it does not get wet in rain/snow, or at least dries quickly. The harness came with directions that give 4 options of how to harness your dog, from the most safe to the least safe. I like this a lot because I can adjust how much I want to restrict her movement depending on whether we are on the highway versus just in town, etc. The harness comes with a hook that you can attach a leash to, which is nice because I can put the harness on her in the house and take her to the car that way. However, the harness does not interfere with the collar so you can still use both at the same time. Layla was not a huge fan of being hooked up in the car at first, but I think I found her favorite setting as she is finally just laying down and taking a nap after I hook her up. This harness offers me peace of mind that she will be okay if I need to slam on my breaks or if we get into an accident. I love it and will definitely purchase another if we ever get another dog! ... show more

When purchasing a car harness for your pet, I found the process to be daunting. All I saw were bad reviews. One isn't as good as the one before it. The other one is dangerous or doesn't fit or whatever. It was so negative that I almost didn't buy one, but I bought this one over the way it looked and how I thought it might fit my boy, Gumbo. Literally the same day it arrived, we left for a 7 day trip in the car. Fortunately, Gumbo is pretty chilled about things like this and wore it just fine from the get go. It did great!! Thankfully, I have not been in an accident with it, but I have been in traffic where I needed to hit the brakes pretty quickly and it holds him perfectly in position in the back seat. He can stand, lay, sit or even come up and stick his head up near me for a petting very easily. But when the brakes are hit and the seatbelt inertia mechanism is deployed, he stays where he is. It was a bit unclear to me how it all worked. You put the harness on the dog. Then you strap the strap to the part of your seatbelt that covers your chest when it is in place. You put the seatbelt in the closed, locked position and the other end of the strap has a spring-loaded D ring closure. That goes through the nylon straps atop the vest. Overall, this is easy to use and seems very secure in keeping Gumbo in place if I have to stop quickly. I have a car with a fairly small back seat and he is a 60 pound poodle, and we're good. He likes it and so do I. Happy travels! Edit: After a full year, this is still a great harness for Gumbo. All the negative reviews must be either from people who work for the other manufacturer of these, or maybe they just have too much time on their hands. If I hit a brick wall at 70 mph, I doubt this harness will save my dog. That is NOT why I bought it. I bought it for quick stops in traffic and such. Gumbo is lanky and somewhat prone to getting tossed around in the back seat. He has come to learn that when he has his harness on, he can fully lean forward and not worry about getting tossed into the floorboard on a quick stop. I recommend this product more than ever before after a year. I do not work for the Solvit company and I have not been given a penny from them. I am a consumer just like the rest of you.     • Your regular walking harness simply won't cut it in an accident.

Recently I was rear-ended in my truck while stopped in traffic. My Schipperke was secured in the front seat using this harness, and came out unscathed. The harness worked, and I'm so glad that I made him wear it religiously, my dog never rides loose. The harness gets 5 stars from me as far as saving my dog, but I deducted one star because the quality isn't the highest, the chest pad has frayed and started to come apart at the top (prior to the accident, and not from chewing) and the way the straps and chest pad are designed seem like they put a lot of force in a relatively small area in a collision. I have since purchased a much more expensive harness (Ezydog- $99) but in a pinch I would still feel good about using the Solvit harness. I want to stress though, this harness DID in fact keep my dog safe and I suggest that anyone who travels with pets, even short trips, should own some type of harness made specifically for cars. Not securely strapping your dog in is EXTREMELY irresponsible, in my opinion. ... show more

When I got this harness I was excited because it seemed to fit well. After actually using it, I am disappointed. The harn is just not made well and could use a few changes. My dog could still sit in the seat, but she got tangled in the seatbelt. It seems to pull down to one side. One of the straps came, already starting to fray. Then while on a walk at the park, the whole strap started coming unraveled. When I got home, we trimmed it and my husband burned the end so it will no longer unravel, the that should not happen in the first week of using the product. Another thing I noticed is that the pad that sits on top of the back shifts to one side bad, even when tightened properly. That can’t be comfortable for the dog. I wish they had attached on of the buckles to the pad or sew it in place so there is no shifting. Overall just disappointed with this product. For size reference, I ordered the large. It fit my standard poodle well with room to grow. She is on the smaller side as far as standard poodles go. ... show more
