The winters here in Maryland aren’t as bad as they are in other places, but it does frequently get down into the teens around here. I wanted to provide some relief to our 8 feral cats/kittens this year, and this heated pad seems to really do the trick. I bought this pad to put in a 15”x25” plastic storage bin located on our deck, situated partially under the picnic table and protected on the other side somewhat by the house. I put a honeycomb rubber mat between the heating pad and the wooden deck to keep the pad out of the water and provide a little insulation. The electric outlet is only a couple of feet away, so this location seemed pretty much perfect. This pad was almost as large as the box, and I couldn’t find one that fit better. The cats and kittens initially looked into the box, then they took a few steps into it with half the body still hanging out. It only took a day or so before they were going in and lying on the pad. It wasn’t uncommon for three or four of them to squeeze into the box, especially at night. The pad worked great, aided, of course, by the body heat of their brothers and sisters. Interestingly, Mom usually stayed alongside the box and wouldn’t go in. Maybe to protect her kittens? I think so. I ended up buying a much larger 17”x41” storage container (90 gallons, I think). This box is large enough for all 8 of them, including Mom who now goes in the box too. The heating pad is now in the far end of the box with roughly 1/3 of the box floor unheated. I’m planning to buy a larger pad if I can find one. I periodically reach in to feel the heating pad cover to make sure it’s not getting wet. I have washed and dried the cover twice now since my purchase. The cover appears to be holding up well. No signs of cat chewing. Similarly, nobody seems to be interested in chewing on the “armored” power cord either. Although the electronic control is supposed to only energize the pad when there is some specific amount of weight on it, the pad appears to be warm all of the time. It’s only 40 watts (I think), so I’m not concerned, but the control may not be working exactly as designed. That might be my only criticism. Keeps contant temp is the number one thing I like! I tried a heating pad for outdoor cats that is suppose to activate when they get on it and cool off when the leave- that was a waste of money. BUT this heating pad is AWSOME!! I blew a little air in (if too full of air they can't nestle in the middle, and is awkward if two cats are snuggling). I placed a selfrelective pet mat under this heating pad in a plactic barn style (small) pet house with no other insulation(this is the second winter & it still works).I had to get two more houses and two more pads, the ferals I have been feeding now use these on cold days and nights, and in the rain. Btw it usually only gets down to the mid to high 20s (degrees) where I live . If in colder areas, you may need to insulate the walls. ... show more

We started feeding this stray cat and with cold weather coming, we bought this heating pad for him. He now has claimed our front bench as his home. He spends most of his day on the pad or next to it on the blankets. It is very nice quality and doesn't get too hot. Cools off when he is out and about. The cover is thick and soft. My mother in laws kitty is outside- he likes outside. But we are in winter and it broke my heart to see him cold so I bought this and he loves it! This guy hates beds so the fact he hasn’t left his warming bed (except to eat, drink, snuggle, jump on our cars and mess with Mr puppy dog next door) since it came says 10/10. Definitely recommend. Doesn’t get too hot, works great with smaller animal homes and cord is easy to hide (he doesn’t like cords, he wouldn’t use it if he saw a cord) ... show more

I bought this heating pad a year ago in December (2022) for a feral cat my mom feeds. It worked great last winter and she put it away in March. We just put it out this November and it worked just okay, but not as warm, for the first few weeks. It is now completely dead - no warmth at all. We just ordered one to replace it because Momma needs a warm cozy cabin. 😺 For the price, this should have lasted far longer than 4 months. Disappointing and a waste of money. ... show more
