This thing is solid. It is real solid wood, looks good, smells good, and the pup loves it. We got this for our German Shepherd and he loves it. It is very sturdy, the roof is slanted and made with real roofing so it is sufficiently weatherproof. The pup likes hanging out on the roof for better vantage points but it is large enough and roomy enough to where he can walk in and turn around and lay down. He can hang his head out the door or hide in the corner if he doesn't want to be disturbed. We also bought the insulation kit for the winter here in Washington. It fits snugly and we were still able to fit a nice memory foam mattress in there for him and he still has room to go in and relax. The bottom of the house is slatted wood so if there was no bed or anything the pup would be on wood and getting any wind drafts still. It is nice that it is raised as well because you can leave it outside and it will not get swamped on the ground and ruin the wood. The feet are plastic which helps with that. I recommend this to all. We did not screw the roof into the house since the insulation kit goes in and out via the roof but it is heavy enough to sit on there sturdy and not move whatsoever.

Our pit bull absolutely loves his house. Sometimes he won’t leave it to hang out with us. The weather proof that is put on it is not enough to withstand the weather for to long so we added more to make sure it gave us many years of joy. It was up in 5 minutes. I was nervous he wouldn’t fit because he is rather y’all, but no worries at all because he is shielded from the rain and wind with no problems. We did not buy the add on for the rain but maybe should have. Now that he is use to not having it we don’t want to buy it in case he won’t like the house anymore. Dogs are creatures of habits after all! Definitely recommend this for durability, ease of installation as well as it looks good in my front uard

Purchased 2 for our beasts in case of inclement weather while we were at work. I've put off buying any pet house for years because all I ran into were expensive and had horrible reviews. This version had some of the best I've read (with the exception of shipping/damage woes). The house: Sides and bottom are thin cedar, roof is a composite of layers (plywood, shingles, etc). Roof is very susceptible to damage during shipping. There is absolutely no protection for the corners of the product in the box. The box itself is thin which ups the risk of damage. One package arrived with right side of roof destroyed, one package was fine. I called the company direct to see if they could help - no such luck. Horribly rude customer service. Called Amazon and ordered a replacement package. Week later it arrived with the front and left sides destroyed plus the middle was bowed. Tired of the frustration already and irritated that I had to drag a big heavy package across down to return it (and wasn't going to do yet another replacement), I simply took both apart and pieced together one good dog house for a total of 2 useable houses. Dogs enjoyed them and hopped right in. Ours are 55lbs and 70lbs and had plenty of room inside. In fact that evening a stray kitten wandered in our yard and decided to hide in one of them. Promptly both my dogs and the neighbor's pit bull joined the party and rocked the house until we hear the commotion. No damage to the kitten or the house. So if you are wondering if a big dog fits in there, um, yes. The range listed on the package/site for this house is spot on. Overall the houses look nice, are decently sturdy, and weren't hard to put together as packaged. 5 minutes max! My damaged ones took me a few hours but only because I had to meticulously deconstruct and then reconstruct. Would I recommend this product? Meh. Only if you were willing to deal with the delays and frustrations of broken houses.

It is very sturdy. The only downfall I had was the bottom inside broke pretty easily (pretty sure that MAY have been due to who I had put it together) however, the flooring that broke can easily be reinforced! It's well worth the money I spent on it and my dog LOVES it!

I had to send it back because the entire framework floor, and roof was missing screws, broken boards, roof frame broken in half but I still had them send a replacement hoping most of the damage was done by poor shipping the box was all torn and crushed. The second one wasn't as bad as far as it wasn't missing screw but after a week screws starts falling out and the wood is so cheap that I wasn't able to put any of the screws back in due to the holes were stripped and to large for the screws also one of the plastic feet was crushed and they sent a new one , after building it I thought it was adorable but after only a week and a 1/2 screws were falling out the floor boards are so thin and cheap they started cracking and splitting apart. This all happened before my dogs ever got to go in it. I was waiting to build a pen yard with a cement slab and fencing so I had the house for about a month before we finished everything and the dog house is now useless! I felt totally scammed by this company, there's no way they could make these and not be aware that they would just fall apart within the first two weeks.

Pros: This is a good looking dog house and easy to assemble. Great size. It took me about 15 minutes to assemble it on my own. Cons: The wood arrived chipped and does not feel too sturdy. Only time will tell if it is weather resistant. Giving it 3 stars because it arrived chipped and it’s not as sturdy as I thought it would be. I think you can build one on your own that would be stronger for less amount of money but it would take a lot longer. Overall I’m satisfied with it for now and my dog has a place to sleep when it gets cold and rains.

My dog absolutely loves this house. We had bought other houses, tried to get him to sleep on a pillow, but he always preferred the concrete (he's primarily an outdoor dog), and we felt bad when it rained and he refused to go in the house. After purchasing this and setting it up, he seems to really enjoy it. We also paired it with the cold-weather liner that Petmate sells, and it keeps him warm and comfortable. The liner comes with a floor pad that both helps insulate the house and gives my dog a softer surface to lie on. My dog has torn up every other type of pillow we've tried to put in doghouses for him, but this pad is low profile and he hasn't even attempted to chew it up. The house was also very easy assemble, and anyone with a basic toolset could assemble. It's lightweight, but durable, though it is large enough that it would be very awkward to move by yourself unless you don't mind dragging it.

Positive: Easy to assemble with the directions included in the package. Snug fitting parts have no gaps. Pay attention to the flooring as there are two orientations that they can go into the bottom. Flooring is off of the ground, which allows for better overall temperature. Roof has 3 tab Shingles, so works great, even in the weather. I'd recommend getting the Pet Log Cabin Style Dog House Insulation Kit as well to improve the insulation of the unit. Negative - Wish the roof was detachable for easy cleaning of the interior, it's nailed into place, but I've worked around it by using screws when I assembled it instead.
