This thing is solid. It is real solid wood, looks good, smells good, and the pup loves it. We got this for our German Shepherd and he loves it. It is very sturdy, the roof is slanted and made with real roofing so it is sufficiently weatherproof. The pup likes hanging out on the roof for better vantage points but it is large enough and roomy enough to where he can walk in and turn around and lay down. He can hang his head out the door or hide in the corner if he doesn't want to be disturbed. We also bought the insulation kit for the winter here in Washington. It fits snugly and we were still able to fit a nice memory foam mattress in there for him and he still has room to go in and relax. The bottom of the house is slatted wood so if there was no bed or anything the pup would be on wood and getting any wind drafts still. It is nice that it is raised as well because you can leave it outside and it will not get swamped on the ground and ruin the wood. The feet are plastic which helps with that. I recommend this to all. We did not screw the roof into the house since the insulation kit goes in and out via the roof but it is heavy enough to sit on there sturdy and not move whatsoever. ... show more

Our pit bull absolutely loves his house. Sometimes he won’t leave it to hang out with us. The weather proof that is put on it is not enough to withstand the weather for to long so we added more to make sure it gave us many years of joy. It was up in 5 minutes. I was nervous he wouldn’t fit because he is rather y’all, but no worries at all because he is shielded from the rain and wind with no problems. We did not buy the add on for the rain but maybe should have. Now that he is use to not having it we don’t want to buy it in case he won’t like the house anymore. Dogs are creatures of habits after all! Definitely recommend this for durability, ease of installation as well as it looks good in my front uard ... show more

    • Easy assembly, packaging could be better

When I received it, the box was damaged, but everything looked good. As I’m pulling everything from the box, I realize I’m missing a foot and the hardware. I didn’t have time to return and reorder, so a quick trip to the hardware store and it’s good to go. Extremely easy to assemble. Perfect size for my shepherd/boxer mutt. Not the most sturdy doghouse in the world, but I’ve seen worse. All in all, worth the money if you get all the hardware with it. It’s obviously the fault of the shipping company, but a little heavier packaging couldn’t hurt to make sure it’s in tact upon arrival. ... show more

I had to send it back because the entire framework floor, and roof was missing screws, broken boards, roof frame broken in half but I still had them send a replacement hoping most of the damage was done by poor shipping the box was all torn and crushed. The second one wasn't as bad as far as it wasn't missing screw but after a week screws starts falling out and the wood is so cheap that I wasn't able to put any of the screws back in due to the holes were stripped and to large for the screws also one of the plastic feet was crushed and they sent a new one , after building it I thought it was adorable but after only a week and a 1/2 screws were falling out the floor boards are so thin and cheap they started cracking and splitting apart. This all happened before my dogs ever got to go in it. I was waiting to build a pen yard with a cement slab and fencing so I had the house for about a month before we finished everything and the dog house is now useless! I felt totally scammed by this company, there's no way they could make these and not be aware that they would just fall apart within the first two weeks. ... show more

Product came in damaged. My husband spent almost an hour fixing 1 piece (a wood panel that was connected to the roof was broken.) He had to carefully remove, mend the pieces, and assemble properly. Due to this, we could see how unsturdy this house and how tiny of nails they used which is probably the main cause of this. There was also a big chip on the door frame, luckily it was inside of the house, and some of the wood came splintered which had to fixed. Because of all the repairs the assembly took an extra 2 hours! However we didnt want to return because wed have to pay for the return and we needed a dog house now that could decently stand up against desert weather in winter and summer. Which is seems like it will do decent, ONLY because we have insulated the dog house. And added plastic wrapping to not allow water in thru the cracks, which seemed kinda big at some points. Our dog is not rough with his house, does not climb on it, chew on it, or do anything besides sleep in it or hang out in there. Which we expect him to do the same in this house, and that is another reason we didnt return. IF you dog does any of these things DO NOT BUY. The wood is not strong enough, might as spend the money and get it built or build one yourself. That's what my husband would have preferred to do after buying this "house". BUT it would look very beautiful if it didnt come in damaged, and its defintely roomy for my dog (German Shepard-lab mix) and we got the Large house. ... show more

My dog absolutely loves this house. We had bought other houses, tried to get him to sleep on a pillow, but he always preferred the concrete (he's primarily an outdoor dog), and we felt bad when it rained and he refused to go in the house. After purchasing this and setting it up, he seems to really enjoy it. We also paired it with the cold-weather liner that Petmate sells, and it keeps him warm and comfortable. The liner comes with a floor pad that both helps insulate the house and gives my dog a softer surface to lie on. My dog has torn up every other type of pillow we've tried to put in doghouses for him, but this pad is low profile and he hasn't even attempted to chew it up. The house was also very easy assemble, and anyone with a basic toolset could assemble. It's lightweight, but durable, though it is large enough that it would be very awkward to move by yourself unless you don't mind dragging it. ... show more
