The installation instructions were very clear and detailed. I was able to assemble the system myself. I had a plumber install a gas line to my wood burning fireplace, and by the time they were finished installing the line, all I had to do was connect the flex line from the pilot valve and turn it on. It provides a pretty good flame, and with the logs placed according to the instructions, gives a good flame distribution. My only (but major) problem is venting the fumes. I have the flu in my fireplace as open as it can be, and the safety clip that came with the burner installed on the flu, but I still get a foul smell from the fireplace when it is lit. I thought that this might just be from chemicals on the logs, and it might burn away after time, but after about 30-60 min, the smell just kept getting stronger and I became dizzy and light-headed. I had to go outside for air, and opened all the windows in my living room. I haven't used the fireplace since then, and now have to decide whether to get a ventless system or somehow increase the ventilation. My chimney and flu system worked fine for burning wood, so I was surprised that I had this problem with the Peterson Real Frye 24" Vented Burner. There is nothing covering the opening of the fireplace (no glass or other obstruction), so there should be good air flow. It seems like this product does what it is supposed to do, but I am very disappointed that I cannot use it. ... show more

The pilot light way too hard to reach for a match or lighter to get to while you hold the pilot light button in. I would not recommend any Peterson Real Fyre manual light system to anyone. I want to put this log set in a box and never see it again!

purchased this unit in JUNE for the contractor building my home. Got installed 4 months later. It looks pretty however this unit does not include a blower so it does not heat a room. It is more for looks then anything. the description leads you to believe that it will heat a room. I can't return it and is a waste of money for me. Tried looking for blowers but none are compatible with this unit. BUYER BEWARE...if you are looking for heat, do NOT purchase and make sure you find a model that is compatable with a blower for this model is NOT! ... show more
