Description
The crew of the May Queen, an inshore fishing boat out of Padstow, had been lifting crab and lobster pots in the shallow waters of Port Quin Bay and were heading out into deeper water, when the skipper noticed something wrong with the boat’s handling. The sea was moderately calm although the ground swell had begun to rise after they had left the shelter of the bay. Alarmed, the skipper decided to head back towards shore when water suddenly began to flood into the wheelhouse from the lower deck and the skipper put out a distress call. As the lifeboat appears out of the mist and the crew step quickly on board, the May Queen slips under the dark water. The owner’s insurance company are suspicious of the circumstances of the sinking and send divers to examine the wreck. Their suspicions are heightened by what they find and steps are taken to raise the May Queen and bring her back to port for a more detailed examination. When the fore-peak-locker is opened to inspect the inside of the hull, a gruesome discovery soon involves Detective Inspector Peters’ in another murder investigation. Read more
