We are fostering a motherless 4 week old kitten and the tent playpen is perfect! It keeps him contained safely when he needs space to run around or sleep unattended. I bought the medium size and it's like a circus tent for him. The fabric seems to be a cotton poly twill blend. The bottom fabric is especially thick and sturdy with perhaps a reinforcing coating, making it easy to quickly wipe up messes. We have a very small litter box in there, so not many accidents. I put blankets in the bottom for softness that can easily be washed and replaced. Do check fo loose threads or bits that an be pulled by a kitten/puppy and Trim them. Do cut stray threads with scissors close to fabric (do NOT pull loose threads because pulling loose threads in ANY sewn item can cause a seam to apart.) The top will zipper off completely. There is one zippered door opening. I know my adult cats would love playing and sleeping in it as well with the top or door left open. This baby kitten can safely climb the walls but can't get out when left unattended. If you don't have a whole baby-proofed room that they can left alone in, or want them in the room with you without staring at them every moment, this is a lifesaver! Nice product, decently sturdy structure, low price for a roomy item. It even has little pockets for handy storage. This is a very economical item and the quality is good enough. I am very pleased with it. Great for very young puppies. It will not withstand a very persistently chewing dog or adult cat like a metal pet crate will. It is not meant to do that. The mesh is a very sturdy fabric. The seams have a black polyester piping trim to reinforce seams. The ends of that black trim will start to unravel some if pulled (by person or snimal) so check the inside of yours where it ends. If some sticks out (which will be tempting for animals to pull at) it can be trimmed a little bit with scissors but do not cut too close as that will damage the seam. A note: The zipper on ours (the ceiling top) is longer than the opening, so I leave the "tails" of the zipper sitting on top (not dangling inside with the kitten). I can sew, so this did not bother me much but others might not understand if this is routinely left long. ... show more

I bought this in anticipation of getting 2 new kittens. We have 3 more weeks before they will move in, but my other cats have now claimed the playpen. It's bigger than I thought which is great since I will need to put a little tray of litter in it as well and food, water, toys, blankets, etc.. We wanted something to put these babies in while we aren't home and in bed so they won't get hurt, but also so our other cats can see them with a safe barrier until they get used to each other. I was worried about the quality since the price was so low but it is extremely well made a sturdy. Definitely more reasonable than buying a pet cage. ... show more

I wanted a nice safe area for a stray mom who showed up and was about to deliver. I questioned getting this because alot of reviews say they get destroyed pretty easy. But for new born kittens, this is definitely great! Mom didn't deliver in the tent/playpen but next to it and I was able to move her in shortly after. So far it is working great. The one downfall I can definitely say, especially with newborns is, the net zip-up door should be done the opposite way. Instead of door zipping & rolling up, it should go top down so you can create a little "wall/barrier" that keep the kittens from being able to crawl/fall out. I made something to help create a barrier so they can't get out with the door zipped open. Photo 1 you can see that it has no type or lip/barrier to keep newborns in. But yeah, other than that flaw this seems to be great so far. Definitely big enough for mom, 5 kittens and a small bowl of food & water so she doesn't have to go far. ... show more

Update 1: The kittens are now almost 7 weeks old and still nursing once or twice a day. I felt this needed an update just in case anyone was wondering. This thing traps stink! Seriously! Unzip or get close to this thing with a clothespin on your nose. I line this everyday with fresh piddle pads and I have a small litter box in there for the kittens to use but this thing reeks! Urine and poop have permeated every single fiber seemingly. I clean it thoroughly everyday and I can still see the revulsion on people's face when they come in my house. Also, and this is NOT the fault of the maker or seller, NOT WATERPROOF! It's my mistake, but a big one! I have hardwood floors and forgot to put a piddle pad under this thing one night. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to refinish my floors. Do I still recommend this thing? Oh you betcha!!! Once their weaned and in new homes, I'll just chuck this thing in the trash since I'll never have another litter. I'm new to this whole cat thing. She went into labor two days after we discovered her pregnancy. I wasn't sure if she was fat or gassy. Turns out she was both, for good reason. After the kittens were born and had started to outgrow their whelping box I bought this. Momma loves this!! She can constantly scan her perimeter (I have dogs) and still lie there letting the kittens eat in peace. I love it for so many reasons. It's airy so I don't have to worry about them overheating. It's easy to clean. I just wipe it down every two days with hot water and peroxide while my mom entertains the kittens. Momma watches us both. She hates shenanigans. I can leave the top unzipped currently since they aren't strong enough to escape. In a few days, the top will have to be closed overnight unless I want to scramble in the morning, sticking kittens in pockets as I hunt for siblings in every nook and cranny. Momma would hate those shenanigans so I will be responsible and try to prevent that. Probably. This is very lightweight and very easy to move about as needed, even if kittens are inside and taking the ride. I haven't had any issues mentioned in the other reviews. None of the mesh has ripped, the zippers are working, in short, no problems. For reference, the kittens are approaching 5 weeks old. ... show more
