Thoroughly researched every available option before picking this one. The carrier did the job, was unobtrusive and didn't attract attention. Our pet is a black Persian cat, she's on the large side at 13.5lbs [mostly fur I guess] and she took to the bag nicely, even though whenever I took measurements and tried to apply her dimensions to that of the bag it seemed like a long shot, but cats prefer tight spaces. She can't very well stand up in it or stretch out much, but she was fine in her standard two positions, crouching and side sleep. The success of the bag was apparent when it first arrived as she started out by napping on the door flap and edging her scent onto the newest household thing. Occasionally I would wake up in the morning to find her sleeping in it voluntarily which brought me a lot of confidence and joy as I was quite nervous about taking her on the airline. We traveled with JetBlue, from JFK to SFO [although we did spring for the 'even more space option'] this carrier was no problem, didn't arise any questions or qualms regarding size and fit, which was what I was most concerned about when researching this product. Luckily the top of the carrier is a pliable mesh and can be moulded and stuffed under the seat in front. It seemed to be in practice within acceptable dimensions. Cat was not inclined to perpetrate any 'accidents' in the bag - somehow managed to hold it all in for over 24 hours !?! Took the cat to the vet in it the day before we flew and it was of course totally fit for that purpose also, was worried the carrier would be tainted by the experience of the vet trip, but cat logic seems to defy that and everything was fine. The cat liked the little 'are you ok in there' petting window, and occasionally liked to poke her head out of it, actually there were many times on the flight and in the Uber where she would start to wail, and a bit of petting seemed to be what she was asking for and it promptly calmed her down. A good pet carrier and the company and their customer care seem to be highly diligent, you get a guide to flight travel and stuff. Also spare insert was a nice touch. Only negative I will say is that unzipped the carrier takes on a slanted shape, although my pet did go in there voluntarily on occasion, had the shape held a bit [might be able to do so with a double zipper!] she would have co-opted the thing in her rotation of permanent sleep dens. Please add an extra zip pull to the main door compartment, as other reviewers have mentioned, just having one zip does make it much more cumbersome to deal with closing a wriggly pet cat in [crucial as you do have to take your cat out of the bag at the airport when in the security line so the bag can go through the scanner]. You want to have moments like that with minimal escapability and you also want to look like a pro animal handler in front of your fellow passengers! I chose this bag over the others as I really wanted the possibility of hooking the back onto the handle of a rolling suitcase, unfortunately, due to the bag's more pliable construction that function didn't work so well - with a wider horizontal strap on that part of the bag, it may have held it's form better for that purpose. Great bag also if you don't want the attention that comes with traveling with a cute pet. It is made of a fine mesh so the pet can have both privacy from and visibility of the outside world. My cat also liked training her nails on the mesh, even with the potential for that damage the bag still held. ... show more

Having 4 cats is definitely not easy. My husband and I keep on complaining but because we love those devils, all we can really do is complain. But despite the fact that it is hard, we still have them because they offer such comfort to us. And they are extremely funny. Don’t get me started with the way one of them eats her food. I’ve always loved cats. And even though the act as if they are above all else, including the humans who feed them, they are lovable creatures. They never fail to make you feel better if you had a bad day at work or ease your loneliness when your significant other has to go out of town for some important business stuff. Yes, I almost forgot why I am here because I keep talking about them. Anyway, one of the things that we have to deal with because of our four cats is the problem on how to travel with them. I am not just talking about traveling to some friends or family. I also refer to those times when we need to bring them to the vet. I’m telling you it is not easy. If only it is not too tiring and overly impractical to just have them checked one by one, I would really do that. So my husband and I have had this struggle for as long as I can remember. One of our friends who witnessed what we are going through suggested that we buy travel bags. Of course, this is perfect because we don’t like tying our cats to a leash. And really, who does that? Anyway, I was so dumbfounded because I didn’t think of it before. Of course a bag would be perfect! So we started to look for the right pet carrier travel bags. A few search here and there, hoping to find some articles that would help us. In the end, we ran back to Amazon, where we buy most of the things we get online. We were introduced to a number of brands. They vary in prices and looks. I thought that since this is our first time buying those bags, maybe we should not get those that are more expensive. My husband agreed. And besides, the cheaper ones also received reviews. Since Caldwell’s is among the most affordable ones there, we decided to get it. I can’t stress enough how happy I am with the bags that we got. We initially thought that these bags could be our experimentation stage so that we can get the permanent one later one but I must say that we are going to stick to it. It is very durable, I’m telling you. Our cat that likes to scratch everything couldn’t really harm it. And they are very comfortable with it to. One time going to the vet, I started calling them in and I was so surprised that they got inside without any problem! Of course this took quite a while but I can really see that they are comfortable inside. So I really, really recommend these to all of you out there! Buy Caldwell’s! ... show more

Never thought she would use it as her hiding place, when not in use for traveling, also works well for travel, although you have to make sure all zippers are securely zipped down.
