While it’s the perfect coil to go with the PerTronix Ignitor breakerless ignition, our 40,000 volt Flame-Thrower canister coil can benefit virtually any distributor type inductive system. Its higher voltage allows largerspark plug gaps for added power, smoother response and better fuel economy. These coils are internally resisted so installation and wiring is drastically simplified. Our oil filled coils offer great heat control for street driven vehicles, while our epoxy filled coils provide superior winding support for high vibration environments in off-road vehicles and boats.

This coil was recommended for installation of PerTronix HEI. Word of note: When installing the PerTronix HEI system in the distributor , measure the height of the rotor from the rotor point of contact, to the distributor plate BEFORE removing the distributor plate with the points. Some after market point sets have a rotor that will measure a little taller than OEM. The magnet that mounts on the distributor bumps will make an aftermarket rotor sit .060 higher inside the distributor cap, thus internally destroying the cap. Measure the height of the rotor AGAIN after installing the PerTronix HEI system !! The engine in my boat has never run THIS GOOD! Drove the boat 36 miles up the Missouri River, and 36 miles back. That's 72 miles round trip on a river, without one single hiccup. Great product. ... show more

I have purchased several of these coils throughout the past few years, each one for a different vehicle. It is absolutely amazing how much improvement the Flame-Thrower has provided in engine starting and performance. If your vehicle seems to lose power or you notice a reduction in engine performance during acceleration, a high volt coil could solve the problem. Easy to install, remove the old coil - simply pull the coil wire and remove positive and negative connections . . then reconnect Flame-Thrower same as old coil. I did replace the existing coil bracket on one vehicle because it was too small for the Flame-Thrower. There is a bracket available just for the PerTronix. It is usually listed with their other products. When you order the Coil, be sure to get the correct ohm for your 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine. ... show more

    • NO MECHANIC, BUT SEEMS TO WORK GREAT
my 68 ranchero was actually dead in the water on location. after some mechanically inclined friends tested it they thought it might need a new coil. they had one in their trunk of all things which got me going, but after some research the superiour construction of this one seemed like it would be better to install. the normal replacements had an issue, i was told, with being installed standing up because the oil in them settled or leaked, shorting their life...the original ones apparently were built better and had been configured to lay down, not stand up. since the pertronix has higher technical standards, i installed it. 4 months use and it appears great...tho i am not a mechanic. still, i've seen no issues and the ignition is quick. amazon, again, lowest prices on this. ... show more

Bought this because I was having some trouble with my coil/resistor. This seems to have resolved the issue and bypassing the resistor dose make things simpler. Only reason for the -1 star is the resistance is ~3.7 ohms a bit high of the advertised 3 ohms I do not know the manufacturing standards and it is still within the resistance the car is meant to have and the car is running great but still i feel like it's something that should be noted. ... show more

The coil works great with the new electronic system that I added to my old 62 Ford Tractor and it works perfectly. The engine starts much quicker than it did with the old point system.
