This thing is absolutely adorable. Couldn’t be any cuter. And well made? Let me tell you…It is exactly as the details describe it. It’s made of solid steel construction, nothing about it isn’t made of steel. The entire metal roof comes off for easy filling, all you do is turn the red bird which doubles as a locking mechanism for the roof. The red perch in the front has several settings for different weights. If too much weight is. Applied to it, it closes off access to the food. Also, the floor of the interior of the bird feeder is sloped downward toward the front so the food is always ready to be refreshed. The VT and Hokie track decals were added by us to make it a Virginia Tech themed bird feeder. The issues I have with it…1. Not a single bird will come to it. And it’s hung in a location where a different feeder was previously that always had tons of birds on it until the squirrels broke it. Also, I haven’t witnessed this personally yet but I do worry about the issue that others have mentioned in their reviews…that the birdseed in the trough that is exposed to the weather may get nasty and caked together after it gets wet and subsequently get moldy, etc. But it sure is cute. If we keep it, it’s only gonna be due to the cuteness factor.

Not only is this birdfeeder squirrel proof, it is BEAR proof. Our neighborhood bear, Scout, bend the weight bars trying to get to the seed but then left it alone. Very impressed with the quality and the effectiveness. So much so that I bought a 2nd feeder. Highly recommended

Bought it, I was going through bags and bags of bird seed. Secured it on the Shepard hook with stainless steel zip ties, made sure you can't open accidentally. Works really better than expected. I have broken the will of the squirrels in my yard...not an easy thing to do! 5 stars!

The media could not be loaded. Tip1: using JB Weld original, line the outside of the window plate located on the inside of the bird feeder (see photo). This will prevent the squirrel from breaking the window in and gaining access to the seed. You may need to put a little JB Weld on the outside where the window snaps on. That should stop the crazy aggressive squirrel. Tip2: Using duct tape, line the inside of the feeder where panels meet. This is important to prevent the squirrel from digging seed out the cracks. It’s a tight space on each end of the feeding trough, but if you can seal that area it will make a difference. Review Packaging: It wasn’t packaged very well. As you can see from the pictures the box was damaged severely. It had also been dropped causing the corner of the feeder to be bent in substantially. There was NO padding to protect the feeder. After bending the side of the feeder into acceptable condition, I discovered the chimney latch, which holds the roof on wouldn’t tighten. This requires bending the roof to a steeper pitch. After that it seems to fit snug and secure. These two things were quite disappointing. Some extra care and packaging would go a long ways. After making the modifications listed above and bending the birdfeeder into acceptable condition, it seems to be a good quality. But how does it perform? That poor squirrel wore himself out trying to find a way inside. Not only does the perch drop down to close the feeding trough, but the slick surface of the sides and roof makes it nearly impossible for the squirrel to find a place to grip. After many attempts he’s no longer interested. Video attached of him sitting on the perch in disappointment. Important notes: I chose to pole mount my feeder as this provides even more squirrel proof protection. If it’s hung by the supplied hanger, the squirrel will grip onto the hanger with its back legs and hang down to eat out of the trough. The hanger has funky strange bend on one end. It will fit but you will need to get creative in figuring it out. I know it looks like it won't work, but it will. Mounting: Use a pole that is 3/4 of an inch outside diameter (OD) maximum. If you buy a pole at the hardware store that states 3/4 of an inch it will be over 1 inch on the outside diameter and won’t fit in the mounting hole on the feeder. This is because they advertise the INSIDE diameter of the pipe (ID). I ended up buying a galvanized 1/2 ID pole, which was about 5/8 outside diameter. It works well but it a little loose. I'll probably wrap the end with duct tape to take up the extra space. Honestly the hole on the feeder should be at least 1 1/8 of an inch to accommodate 3/4 ID advertised polls. I gave this feeder 4 stars because of the few issues and poor packaging. If these few things were addressed by the manufacturer it would be a solid 5 star product. I do recommend the purchase of this product, just be ready to do a few modifications before putting it to use.

This feeder holds a LOT of seed! That makes it quite heavy. It tips my Shepherd's hook. I have this in my front yard next to a dwarf hydrangea bush. The small birds - chickadees and sparrows mostly - can hide in the bush. They fly up, enjoy the seed, then drop down to the bush if they sense a predator. The front feed bar is on a spring and shuts off the seed trough if a squirrel attempts to land. Due to the prevailing winds, I had to turn my feeder to face the pole, this makes it a little more difficult for the birds I think. I turn it away from the pole when we don't have a wind storm coming through, and the birds find it easier to land. I have this outside a bedroom window, with a cat tree inside. My indoor-only cats enjoy sitting watching all the activity. Unfortunately when it rains the seed in the trough gets wet, and sticks together. This gums up the whole thing. Plus I read that wet seed can grow mold which causes blindness in finches, so after a rain I have to go out and clean out the entire trough. Then the loose seed in the main house is again free to fill the trough again. The silver cap turns to lock the entire roof in place, so a squirrel can't remove the top to get in. You turn that and the entire roof lifts off for easy cleaning and filling. Glad I don't have to remove all the seed to clean the trough after a rain. It is a cute feeder, plus my house is about the same shade of green so it fits in well here. Edit: I have had this feeder up for ages, refill it twice a week. Went out to refill it this morning and there is a mouse inside! I'd say it had been in there some time as it was sluggish - plenty of food but no water. I had to set the feeder on the ground, tip it and tap the bottom to get the darn thing to move out. Now I wonder what to do to prevent this happening again. How it climbed up the shepherd;d pole is a mystery to me.
