  • APPLICATION: PereGuard is simple to apply. Just peel off the backing paper and apply the guard. The guard comes with a layer of marine grade adhesive that is pre-applied. Clean the surface, peel off the backing paper off the Guard and then apply the Guard. PereGuard works on thermoformed boats, fiberglass, rotomold plastic, aluminum, and many other materials.
  • DESIGN: PereGuard is made from durable PVC and has a smooth surface to reduce friction in the water. The adhesive is industry strength and works well in all environments. The guard is thin to prevent drag, and the edges are tapered to seal with the boat and keep dirt and grime away from the adhesive layer.

Description

Just purchased a brand new kayak or catamaran? Protect it with PereGuard. PereGuard is a easy to use protective guard that can be applied to your kayak in any location that will receive extra wear and tear. This strip is designed for outdoor use and will stand up to the most rigorous of abuse. The strip is easy to apply, and with a little heat can wrap around corners and edges. With heat the strip is also easy to remove. Sticks to fiberglass, thermoformed, ABS, and polyethylene (roto) kayaks. Note that this PereGuard is 4" wide. PereGuard is designed to have a low profile to prevent any resistance in the water and keep any added weight down, while also being very durable for protection. The extra width is great for larger kayaks and canoes, or catamarans. Also note that this product protects against accidental contact with rough surfaces. It will not allow you to drag it along the cement (we have had customers try that). Installation Instructions for this product are as follows - Clean the area thoroughly with a mild soap and water to ensure a clean surface, once the surface is dry remove the blue backing on the keel guard to expose the adhesive layer and apply the tape to the desired location - Enjoy!

Just installed it on my ‘26 Jackson coosa FD. I saw reviews about it not sticking or staying stuck so time will tell and I’ll update my post if anything catastrophic happens. Clean your kayak very well before installing. I used 120 grit sandpaper to rough up the texture before installing then used windex and then went over it with rubbing alcohol and then the wipes they provided to make sure it was extra clean. It was about 80 degrees out today so I measured my strips cut them to size and let them sit out in the sun for a few minutes on my truck bed before sticking them to the kayak and also used a heat gun to mold it to the hull. Little tip I figured out is to use a marker to mark center on the top and bottom of your piece to make sure it stays straight as you apply it. I later went back over the exposed cut edges with a clear marine grade sealant to keep water out. So far it’s turned out great. The tape is a rubber type material and it is not very thick but I think it’s thick enough to take a decent impact atleast a few times and save your hull and really help with those small scratches from dragging mainly. People need to realize this is a sacrificial layer so don’t expect it to last forever it’s meant to be pulled off and replaced when needed. I’m not rough on my kayak so this should last me awhile. Really a good product, exactly what I was looking for. It's hard, yet tough so the job is going to get done and it'll be durable. The adhesive is serious and the strip(s) should stay on for as long as you want in all conditions. I do believe this company knows what kayakers and small boaters need. That being said, it's not a 5 minute application--you're going to really want a small heat gun ($10-$15) because even in normal temperatures, the plastic is stiff and hard to shape around keels. Once heated, it shapes very easily and any bumps and ripples can be squeezed and rolled out. Be sure to round all your end corners--to do this, I used a straight pair of sheet metal shears. Heavy scissors would do but the shears made it like cutting cardboard. I didn't cover my entire keel, as it's the extreme ends which see the concrete during loading and unloading. No observable drag in the water! ... show more

I thought because of the mixed reviews I could get lucky and make it work. WRONG! I made sure to properly prep the kayak and used a heat gun very carefully like it says to do. Well, guess what? This stuff still peeled up in less than 3 days. Never even made it to the water to test its durability. All the edges wont stick. It might work on a completly flat surface but on my kayak all the edges peeled just sitting in my garage. The part that really sucks... I would love to request a refund & return it but the Amazon return system says that if the item is returned in "used condition" I will be charged for the item. I want to know how they expect me to send this back unused? Do yourself a favor and skip the idea of buying this crap because its a waste of your hard earned money. I just tossed $87 in the trash. Dont make the same mistake as me. ... show more

The tape is really tough. Maybe to tough that I had trouble putting it on firmly on my keel. At end it bends. Even a heat gun didnt help.

NOT very abrasion resistant. Keel guard started peeling before taking the kayak out. Adhesive is stuck to the kayak but the keel guard separated from the adhesive. Went to the lake 3 times may have hit sand or rocks twice each time and the guard has been ripped, and/or torn.

I bought this tape from Pereguard and it's been working great so far on the bottom of my kayak! Easy to apply and great quality. Tape is smooth on exterior so I can still slide with ease. Tape is also thick and durable. I went from constantly worrying about dings (Hobie Lynx is notorious for being more fragile than most kayaks/SUPs) to now being completely worry free. I will be buying another large roll for my wife's Hobie Lynx as well! ... show more
