I've used more expensive paddles, but I have not seen a significant difference between the two. If you're looking for usable paddle and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is a great alternative. Build quality is good (aluminum pole), lightweight, floats, provides good propulsion even with decent technique, and value makes this a great paddle for your consideration. If you're looking for a touring paddles, I would recommend you spend a little more for something lighter, but for general use even as a primary paddle, this is more than sufficient for your needs. I have to say, this paddle is pretty sweet. For paddling on my local lake, this does the job nicely and it didn't break the bank. If you just want to paddle casually and have fun, this paddle is lightweight and seems stiff enough to get a good stroke and move the boat around nicely. This oars are excellent for the price. They fit tight together and feel good in the water. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is that both of the ones I ordered were slightly flattened on the right side near the handle. It was like a heavy weight had been set on them and forced the circular tube into an oval shape. It was slight enough that I kept them, but it was on both of the oars that I ordered, almost identical in location and degree. I'm not sure if that was from manufacturing or warehousing them, but it's something that folks should be aware of just in case. ... show more
