Looking to get back into art and trying to find a medium that inspires me to do things again, I've been attempting a number of different things. I haven't used oil pastels since the early 2000s and decided to try them out again - I had fun! I don't have a lot of experience with different brands but if you are familiar with the Royal & Langnickel brand, Pentel is much better. The ease of blending is there, where as it's non-existent with the R&L brand. The only down side would be the smell. It is a very strong smell and I would recommend letting it air out for a few hours before using them properly. Otherwise, I very good product and I would recommend it to those looking to try out a budget friendly oil pastel. ... show more

I haven’t used these extensively yet; but I’ve tested several of them and I was very impressed with how bold and smooth the colors and texture are. I was easily able to apply it as a light shading like colored pencil/ crayon; or a bold vivid blending more similar to a paint marker, depending on the pressure and number of strokes. I was worried that for the cheap price of these, they would end up being more like crayons than oil pastels; but I was pleasantly surprised by the application and at how well they blend like a lot of the more expensive brands. These are a great purchase for artists of any level and even if you decide you prefer another more pricey brand; these are still absolutely worth buying and having as a tool in your art kit. I’ve bought them twice already for 2 art hobbyists couples in my family and plan to likely buy at least 2 more sets for 2 other art hobbyists because for the price, why not?! ... show more

I purchased these oil pastels for my daughter when she was in kindergarten, and now she’s in second grade—and they’ve held up amazingly well! The colors are still so vibrant and smooth, making every art project fun and creative. The quality really impressed me, especially since they’ve lasted this long with frequent use.
