  • Image is Everything
This is a big camera compared to Fuji and Hasselblad, but the SLR mirror box is worth having to protect the imaging sensor. Also, the legacy Pentax lenses make assembling a complete system affordable. You may not get autofocus in some of the older lenses, but this is a 'medium format' camera that is more a manual, hands-on system. ... show more

  • Offers the incredible resolution
This Pentax 645Z offers the incredible resolution and large sensor of a medium format system at a price that's a third that of the competition. The Good: Captures images at 51-megapixel resolution. Excellent high ISO performance. Speedy response. 2.9fps continuous shooting. 27-point autofocus system. Articulating rear display. Weather-sealed design. Solid control layout. Dual tripod mounts. Optional Wi-Fi via FluCard memory card. 1080p video and 4K time-lapse. Competitive price point. The Bad: System lacks modern leaf-shutter lenses. Autofocus can struggle with fast moving subjects. Focus points grouped tightly in center of frame. Integrated design lacks versatility of a modular back. So-so video quality. Tethered shooting software not included. A solid addition by Pentax but always worth comparing to this Pentax Camera to get an idea of the difference in spec: http://amzn.to/1VPtIHf ... show more

  • The King of Kings
King of the hill camera that delivers the best image you would ever need to get. I love this camera and along with the Fuji GFX I struggle to make a decision on which one I love the most. Excellent Gear!!!

  • Gotta love those dirty colors
I've owned the 645z since February 2015 and my findings are overall very good. As with any high end camera like this, you have to be prepared to do extensive editing to any image for it to look its best. Back in the film days, I was a drum scanner operator at a prepress company. I compare the 645z vs 35mm systems to the drum scanner compared to other good quality mainstream flatbed scaners. Actually, in terms of image quality, it's the same things being compared. To start, the drum scanners could capture highlight detail better. So too does the 645z compared to anything other than other MF digital cameras. The drum scanner could give you more 'dirty' colors, which meant the bright colors were rich with detail waiting to be enhanced but could look awful at first. Again, this is the case with the 645z. Just like the drum scanner, it took the skill of the operator to make it look like something and there was little automation about it. While the Canons, Nikons and Sony DSLRs can often produce amazing shots right out of the camera, they come at a price of having less latitude for editing. Clouds are a great example of where the 645z shines. You can pull as much detail as you can imagine out of clouds with this camera. Now think of highlights in a different way. A bright color like a red, green, yellow, etc all have a complementary (dirty color) component that actually creates most of the detail. These dirty colors are usually in the highlight tonal area. Since the 645z sees more of this detail, with its wider dynamic range, this equates to images with more flexibility as clipping/posterization will be much less likely. With the 645z, I can shoot in the middle of the day, in open sun where super high contrast is always expected and still produce images with highlight and shadow detail every time. In your RAW editor of choice, feel free to pull sliders to their extreme setting if needed, the 645z images can take it. ... show more

  • Truly Professional
Amazing quality pictures, fast and accurate focus & metering, powerful & easy interface. Despite it's big size, it's actually lighter than Canon 1dx and similar cameras. Highly recommended.
