I have 4 Penn spin fishers, several Penn slammer 360s, and countless other reels. I actually got 5 of these for $28 and took a chance. Frankly, these work much better than my slammers. I don’t think the slammers were maid for braid. The line lay was poor, and the line kept sliding under the drag knob. I also got 3-4 wind knots. I decided to break out one of the Penn Pursuits (4000 version) and used the same Kast King 15 pound braid with a 5 foot Segaur Blue Lable 15 pound leader. It performed flawlessly when paired with a 7 foot Kast King Peregee II medium action rod. Perfect balance and light. I loaded the braid almost to the lip with no issues on a windy day. As noted above, I have my choice of numerous reels. For freshwater bass fishing, this is going to be my go to reel for Kayak fishing. Even though it seems a little large for bass, it’s very light and eliminated wind knots. Also the drag (HT-100) performed flawlessly for the ~15 or so bass I caught on it. This reel will do everything I will need for freshwater fishing. The light weight was noticeable for a 1/2 day of casting. It was superior to the slammer reel all the way around. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it wasn’t even close. I will repurpose the slammer for trolling or live bait fishing. ... show more

I love Penn gear, just can't beat it for the price. Tough rugged reel, feels like a much more expensive reel. Once I bought one 4000 series, I bought a 3000 pursuit Vl as well. Then I rounded it off by buying a 4000 & a 3000 series Penn fierce combos to add to my arsenal. 😁

Awesome reel. Love Penns!!!! I picked pursuit iv cuz the pic shows the round handles-but this is what I got. Great reels still—just not what’s advertised. Seems that’s for the 4000’s???? but if you select 2500’s and 3000’s it shows the same round knob handles. O well, just so you know what you’re getting. I’m gonna keep them anyway. ... show more

I'm on my second one and this reel is pretty solid. Caught a lot of fish saltwater whipping and light dunking in Hawaii. Only gripe is that sometimes the line isn't balanced well sometimes on the retrieve causing it to get caught on the next cast affecting the distance.
