I really like this reels line capacity, I spooled it with 660yds of yozuri 30lb braid and a 40lb mono top shot around 30yds. I use it to slow pitch jig and the low speed gear is nice for winding up fish while the high gear helps get the jig out to reset quickly. Penn has always made great reels and I think this reel is not any different in quality. I have 7 Penn 2-speed reels for fishing ranging from these 40s up to an 80W. I made 2 custom rods for the gals and paired these reels with them. I really like the narrow frame. It is less bulky and easier to handle with smaller hands. The lower gear, which is closer to 1/3 the retrieval speed versus 1/2 the retrieval speed on my other Penns reels gives enough torque to help the smaller fisher folks get the big ones off the bottom and away from the wrecks. ... show more

Been using this for some time as part of a slow pitch jigging outfit for deep, large fish. It has held its own very well. It is not perfect, it will have a shorter lifespan than a premium reel because the metallurgy is prone to corrosion, but you can replace it a number of times and still come out ahead on cash spent. I own multiple Penn reels and bought this for a recent bluefin trip. This reel did better than some for twice the price. The power handle is comfortable and feels great in the hand. Two speeds are nice when you have to gear down for the big ones.
