  • An Excellent Educational Product for a High School or College Student Interested in Electronics
This device is excellent for high school and college students interested in electronics and electronics circuitry. The product does require the use of an electric soldering iron. There are several types. You could get one as an inexpensive soldering iron stays hot all the time, and the other type is a more expensive soldering iron that works on impulses and gets very hot very quickly, but then cools off very quickly. Either the soldering iron will work. This product has a circuit board, three IC chips, and resistors. You work with the integrated circuits, connecting them where indicated, soldering in the power connection for the USB connection, and soldering in the resistors in the appropriate places. You have advice. Ultimately, this skateboard plays seven different games that you made inside yourself. Misusing a soldering iron is an acquired skill. This will help the student learn the skill of soldering, and he may or may not be successful. If you solder incorrectly, it is very easy to damage a circuit board or chip. But this is part of the learning experience: how to soldier it correctly. The supply includes a complete set of instructions and a QR code that links to a comprehensive video showing how to assemble this product. When completed you can play seven different video games on this device that you assembled yourself. It brings back memories of when I was 12. My parents gave me an FM radio kit to be assembled. It had three vacuum tubes, sockets, a transformer to transform 110 V to 400 V, and capacitors that stored current even after the power was turned off. You would get a good shock if you touched a capacitor taking a 400 V charge and were grounded. There was much soldering required in that as well. This product is much safer than that old-style vacuum tube product with high-voltage circuits, as this product uses USB power of five volts DC and has storage for batteries of one and a half volts each as an alternative Power source. The old style product that I had could result in your electrocution if you were not careful, and this product is much safer. This is an excellent part for anyone who is at a high school level or above, can follow directions, and is interested in electronic circuitry. ... show more

  • Nice entry kit into soldering.
This is a great little kit. My only complaint was, about 30% of the pins were bent when I opened it, so assembling it took a bit longer than it should have. That said, I assembled it without soldering it, just to test it out. ultimately, this will be a great project for a kid just learning to solder, and that's exactly what I'm going to do with it - sit down with my nephew, and teach him how to make his own video game. I doubt he'll be impressed with the graphics, but the experience will be great. ... show more

  • Fun Mother-Son Project
This was a great project to do with my son. We passed it back and forth, taking turns soldering and checking the work. It took us longer than the less than 8-minute demo, but man, that person was fast. In the end, the game worked flawlessly. I recommend the video just to get a feel for it; then the directions are just a memory tool. Most of the components have plenty of room to solder without having any crossover or needing crazy hand positions; just go in the order recommended. The most difficult part for us was soldering the wires to the battery shrapnel and board. We each felt we needed three hands, and it took one of us holding the wire while the other soldered. Notes: The video is in Chinese; the subtitles are in Chinese. However, the assembly demo was done so well that words in any language were not really necessary. The video for the operation instructions (not included in the package) was also in Chinese and not easy to understand, but there's a workaround. On the lower end of the installation video page, game play and settings directions were written in Chinese and English. Those are perfectly clear. ... show more

  • Good stem DIY kit.
This is a good stem soldering kit for students wanting to enhance their soldering skills. You get everything you need to make a game that plays seven different games. The screen is integrated so it comes already assembled. You also get a plastic case to house your project

  • Good Kit—Fun build, but instructions are a tad confusing, and battery box messed up.
The media could not be loaded. This is a fun soldering project. When done, you will have a 7-in-1 game unit. It is an easy build, but there was a little confusion with regard to the two square dot matrix pieces. The instructions show having one with dots and one with square shapes. However, this one arrived with two identical square-shaped boards. They worked, so I'm not sure why the instructions state that you need one of each. The battery box has some plastic that the battery contacts slide behind. It's so thick, the batteries won't make proper contact, resulting in the unit not powering on. I had to make some compensatory adjustments, and now it's working—well, kind of. You can scan the included QR code, and it takes you to a very detailed page with a step-by-step building instructional video as well as a tutorial video. However, the voice is all in Chinese. Good luck with that. Playing a few of the games is confusing as there are no instructions written or online. FYI: The big yellow button on the right turns it on and off. Overall, it was a fun build, even with the confusion. Playing the games, not so much. Well, maybe the Tetris, game was fun, but that's about it. *See my unboxing and demonstrational video plus photos. ... show more

  • Fun to build and play
The media could not be loaded. I've soldered things over the years, but haven't really done detailed PCB work in 30 years. This project was fun and quite easy. The finished product works great. It comes with step-by-step printed instructions, but there is a QR code to a site with large step-by-step pictures and multiple videos. It runs off 4 AAA batteries or USB. I had two minor issues. The first is that the batteries didn't make good contact with positive plates, so I had to bend them out a tad with a small flat-head scrrewdriver. The second is that I stripped the screw holes on the case, so decided to use some super glue. The glue fumes ended up fogging up the plastic a little in the corners, so maybe don't use glue on yours. ... show more
