  • Beautiful little kayak
Pattern Name: Kayak
Edit after taking it out a few times: WOAAAAH OKAY! I love this little boat even more now. I’m easily able to walk it from my car across wherever, to get to water. I REALLY enjoy getting in and out to cross land to travel on waterways. It’s fun and I used to do this with a massive heavy flat bottom kayak and it sucked. This is nothing. As far as tipping - if you’re new to kayaking, you can handle this boat. Get in on a shallow area, it’s okay if water gets on your feet - you’re gonna survive that. Step over it, one foot in, lower yourself down and get your other foot in. Then scoot or push yourself out. I only got tippy once out in the water and it’s because I put my foot over a side and was paddling backwards. I also put my partner in it and had him paddle a bit, he has never kayaked in his life - he was fine. I’d actually recommend skipping the flat bottom and going right for this boat! It’s great! And the SEAT IS ACTUALLY COMFORTABLE THATS CRAZY LOL happy paddling y’all! The only reason I deducted a star is because it came with one of the carrying handles broken - the rope was frayed. This is a super easy fix and I would recommend replacing that cord anyway, so you don’t drop and devastate your hull accidentally if it snaps. I’m 5’3” and I weigh around 110lb, I’m a very lean and small person and I can WHIP this thing over my shoulder. Loaded it onto my J bars with only a little trouble, if you’re shorter you may want to invest in a simple door step, I will be just to make loading as simple as possible. Storage space could always be deeper but you can easily tuck a dry bag away somewhere with no issue. I love the mesh-cover storage spot behind the seat, probably going to make my dog a little place to hang out while I paddle. I’ll update this if I remember once it’s made the maiden voyage~~~ but for now, perfect kayak for me. ♥️ ... show more

  • good system for beginner and older person
Pattern Name: Kayak
kayak tracked well. In somewhat rough water, it handled well but as expected required a little more effort overall. Relatively easy to put on roof rack.

  • easy to use
Pattern Name: Kayak
The kayak is easy to use, great for beginners. Seemed to hold course against current. The only negative is that the handle line snapped on my wife's kayak on 3rd carry and for me it was 1st carry. I think they need a stronger line. People have commented negatively on drains, ours worked easily for both. ... show more

  • Exactly What I Was Expecting
Pattern Name: Kayak
This is the perfect Kayak for me. I am 6'3", 210lbs. I was looking for something light-weight that I could carry from my beach condo to the surf for launching. At only 36 pounds, very easy to carry to the sand. The pull handles at front and back also allow me to drag it to the water in the sand once I get off the boardwalk. I am 58 years old, never kayaked before. So I knew up front, I had to practice a few times to get comfortable. Yes, I did tip over a few times my first time. I expected this, and you should too. Like anything else, a little patience and practice, and I became comfortable very quickly with the kayak. I practiced on 3-4' of water, so that I could touch the bottom easily. My first several launches was in the Chesapeake Bay, right at the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. Certainly not flat water. This also added to my practicing skills. I purchased this kayak in September 2021, practiced all through the winter on weekends at my own pace (with a wetsuit of course), and now that its springtime, I am looking to get out in the warm sunshine. If you read the 1 & 2-star ratings, the real complaints those folks had was the 'stability'. I am not an expert, but as a beginner, you have to expect and accept this and practice it. Otherwise, buy yourself a raft. Pelican also offers a fishing version of this kayak. I wanted the bright yellow for visibility on the Bay for safety reasons, and I am already buying some of the rod holders and a few other items from Pelican to trick out the kayak a little more to do some kayak fishing. This is a really big sport on the Chesapeake Bay, I plan to enjoy my newly-taught skill this summer. If you know how to ride a bike, then you should be able to teach yourself the stability portion of a kayak in a day or two. You just have to practice a little bit up front. I hope this review helps you decide. Hope to see you on the Bay in Virginia. ... show more

  • Fabulous Kayak ‼️
Pattern Name: Kayak
UPDATE: After using this kayak 7 times at 2-4 hours per outing, I can say I love this Kayak! I’m more use to it now and found out I can edge on it very comfortably. If you never kayaked before you might not be able to appreciate how maneuverable this is. You will just think it’s tippy or unstable. It’s NOT. It’s fast and maneuverable‼️😎 The only negative for me is it’s not as easy to get in or out of compared to a sit on top kayak but that’s because I’m old and fat. I highly recommend this kayak for intermediate kayakers. Beginners — I still recommend unless they are non active type of people. This kayak is Lightweight, Easy to Paddle and Transport, Tracks Well, and it’s Fast. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. The bottom has a modified V shape hull so it’s a little more tippy than a heavy, flat-bottomed SitOnTop kayak. But, I got used to it in a few minutes and was loving paddling this sit inside kayak. It’s very responsive. Now, getting in and out: Easy Peasy‼️ I practiced a few times in my garage. Best advice I can give is: sit down first on the cockpit frame right behind the backrest (I sat on the backrest 😂), swing one leg in, then the other leg in as you lower your butt into the seat. Just keep your center of gravity low and hold onto the cockpit sides. Best to get in and out in water that’s only a few inches deep while you’re getting used to it. . Getting out: hold on to the sides and raise your butt up onto the cockpit frame and backrest. One leg out then all together push up with your hands and stand up and lift your other leg out. That’s it. And by the way, I’m 65 yrs old with 2 artificial hips and 30 lbs overweight. The foot stops inside the Kayak are great also. 4 different positions for various leg lengths. I’m loving this kayak and it’s a game changer from my sit on top kayak. I highly recommend this Pelican Maxim 100. Worth every dollar 👍😎 ... show more
