  • Great exfoliator
Scent: Black Rice
I'm very happy with this exfoliating serum. It has a pleasant texture and is very easy to apply. After using it, my skin feels much softer, cleaner, and looks more radiant. I like that it exfoliates effectively without being too harsh, so it doesn't leave my skin irritated. It also contains niacinamide and black rice water, which help keep my skin hydrated and healthy-looking. With regular use, I've noticed my skin tone looks more even and my pores appear cleaner. I would definitely purchase this product again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gentle yet effective exfoliator. ... show more

  • Dr. Melaxin
Scent: Black Rice
I just hit 35 this year. For the past 3 years I have been searching for something to help get the upper layers of dry skin off of my face without resorting to a freaking sandblaster. I wash my skin twice a day and had to cut back to once a day because we have hard water and despite having an expensive shower head with equally expensive filter replacements dryness always persisted. I would use gentle scrub sponges both in and out of the shower along with an oil based cleanser first and a water based cleanser second. Every time I would think I am really getting that upper level or two of dead skin cells off my face. I had even tried a moisturizing glycolic peel pad before I applied a very moisturizing face oil or moisturizer. Everything always felt right and soft and supple until I went to apply makeup. I don't wear makeup all of the time but when I do it is minimal and the evidence of dead skin was still on my face. The little dry patches I would have bet a million dollars were gone every time were always there making my sking look blotchy and like I just had no idea how to apply foundation or tinted moisturizer or a mineral powder. Nothing freaking helped! Enter Dr. Melaxin.... I don't watch tick tock, I am not a die hard try all the new stuff cause everybody says it works type of woman. I did however know that my Korean body scrub mitt was pretty awesome and I saw a review that described this product the same way but WITHOUT the harshness on your face so why not give it a go? I was already so frustrated and this wasn't to expensive so why the hell not. RESULT: As my skin ages I will adapt my products to what my skin needs always because its a vital organ. I can say however that Peel Shot is now a permanent part of my routine. I would use this even if I had no other cleansers for my face. It is gentle and it works like nothing else I have ever used. The resurfacing I get is mind blowing to me. I wish I could give this 20 stars. I really do. I can't even describe how amazing it feels and how well moisturizer, primer, face oil, etc. absorb after using this stuff. Peel Shot is gentle enough to use everyday on face and body, but I use it for my face mostly. TIP: Make sure to get a good amount, like a quarter size in your hand and really rub it in. You will know you are doing it correctly when you see white peels of dead skin cells roll up under your fingers on your face. It may sound odd, like you are scrubbing too much off but I promise you that your are not! Your face always has waaaayyy more dead skin than you think and this is so gentle it is phenomenal!!! UPDATE I wanted to come back and give an update on my review because this product honestly deserves it. I'm about to turn 36 this year, and for the past few years I’ve been trying everything to deal with the dry, flaky layer on my face—without feeling like I needed a literal sandblaster to get results. I’ve always taken care of my skin. I was washing twice a day, but had to cut back to once daily because of hard water issues. Even with an expensive filtered shower head, the dryness never fully went away. I tried gentle exfoliating sponges, double cleansing (oil-based first, then water-based), and even glycolic peel pads followed by rich moisturizers and face oils. Every single time, my skin would feel soft and smooth… until I applied makeup. That’s when reality hit. Those stubborn dry patches were STILL there. My makeup would look uneven and blotchy, like I didn’t know what I was doing—even though I kept my routine minimal and careful. It was honestly frustrating beyond words. Then I found this. I’m not someone who jumps on trends or buys products just because they’re hyped online. But I had used a Korean exfoliating mitt before and loved the concept, so when I saw something similar designed for the face—but gentler—I figured, why not? At that point, I had nothing to lose. And wow… I’m so glad I tried it. This has completely changed my skincare routine. The difference in how my skin feels—and more importantly, how it looks—is unbelievable. It gently removes that top layer of dead skin in a way nothing else ever has for me. My skin feels smooth, refreshed, and actually prepped to absorb everything I put on afterward. Moisturizer, primer, face oil—everything goes on better. Makeup finally looks the way it’s supposed to. This is now a permanent staple for me. No question. Tip: Use a generous amount (about a quarter-sized) and really work it into your skin. You’ll start to see the dead skin roll up under your fingers. It might feel strange at first, but don’t worry—it’s incredibly gentle, and your skin will feel amazing afterward. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. This is hands down one of the best skincare products I’ve ever used. ... show more

  • What is this magic?
Scent: Black Rice
What is this magic? Like most people, I wasn't convinced that these little grey balls on my skin were purely dead skin. Well, I asked Gemini, and they aren't, mostly. In reality, the little balls are a part of the exfoliating mechanism; the others are chemical exfoliators like BHA, which is oil-soluble and can very quickly release oil from pores. The PHA breaks down the bonds between dead skin cells. The little balls are cellulose that react with the air and then ball up. However, their job is to pick up the oil and dead skin that the BHA, AHA, and, mainly, PHA has just loosened. So maybe 90% of the ball is cellulose, and the other 10% is dead skin/sebum. Who knows? Regardless, they aren't trying to trick you. The little balls serve a purpose much greater than your own personal satisfaction that comes from seeing dead skin come off your face. Oh, and if you see blue in the little balls, that is a pigment found in black rice that is similar to the pigment in blueberries; you don't have blue dirt in your skin. If you still find it hard to believe, I've tested it several times on skin that naturally has closed pores and very little oil production, like the tops of my hands. I find that many more little dirt balls roll off in areas like my T-zone, and much less in places where I'm not producing as much oil, like my cheeks, and virtually none roll off on the tops of my hands. Now that we've got that out of the way, all I can say is WOW! After one use, there is a very noticeable difference in my skin texture. Freckles on my forehead all of a sudden faded, and my décolletage, where I have a lot of sun damage, evened out a bit. It's wild because the substance is only on your skin for a short period of time. At first, it looks and feels like you are polishing your face, which is not the case. My skin is much smoother, and I can see that it's cleaner. It reminded me of the texture of my skin when I was a kid, before pores or sebum were even a thing. Perhaps what I'm seeing there is the pore-tightening aspects of the formula at work. Anyway, this is well worth the money. Just don't overdo it the first time! Remember, those little balls are mostly cellulose, not your skin. After using it, my active skin care penetrates much better. Over-the-counter skin care has advanced so much in the past five years, and this is a perfect example of that! An excellent product that actually does what it says it will! Update: I figured out that the freckles that were fading were actually solar lentigo (sun spots, age spots). Apparently, these acids can fade them. I had this happen with retinol once. I thought I had a retinol burn, but later realized it was actually a large solar lentigo peeling off my face over a few weeks' time. Crazy! Update: I've been using this weekly all over my face, very carefully avoiding my eyes, and I am still blown away every time I use it. It is the most effective skincare product I've ever used. I had a facial scheduled and actually cancelled it because I didn't see the point of going. This stuff makes my skin look better than any facial could. As we get older, I think we greatly underestimate how slowly our skin turns over, and we just get used to the way it looks. Underneath all the buildup, there is a new skin. It's actually shocking when you see it for the first time. I will be forever in awe of this product. It's magic, every time. ... show more

  • Uh, it will remove healthy skin if used too much
Scent: Black Rice
First of all- this WILL take off the first layer of your skin if you're like me and don't believe it's working and repeat the peel shot application a second time to test it ... Lol. I was using this and it was so gentle I didn't believe it was working. My chin still felt a little uneven so I applied the peel shot again to that area and rubbed real well... When I washed it off? My chin was BABY SMOOTH but it burned like no other... Day two I'm a bit dry and red in that area and I'm using my Kahi collagen stick like crazy. But, I learned by my own bs that this stuff is the real deal- it is a PEEL shot. It removes. It's not just the product balling up.... Not for daily use. Lol. ... show more

  • Leaves face feeling clean
Scent: Black Rice
(I got the black rice one) It definitely works to exfoliate skin, but if you're looking to instantly get rid of blackheads this is a multiple-week treatment plan rather than a quick fix. It leaves my face feeling so clean and is super satisfying, but only upper-layer impurities will be removed. I really like the product, but I was hoping it would clean pores more deeply. ... show more

  • Wow!🤩
Scent: Black Rice
Wow! I am impressed. I turned 40 and my facial skin decided to freak out. I bought it to address the hormonal congestion and layer of dry skin on my chin. I had a lot of stubborn blockage and a layer of hard skin that I could not fix. It has become progressively worse over this past year. I tried all of the things that used to work for me but it only got worse. As soon as you start rubbing this on, you can feel the dead skin sloughing away. It is a very gentle yet effective resurfacer. My skin is not irritated after, despite the deep work it does. My skin feels smooth and looks bright and even toned afterwords. I have yet to see, but I am hoping that it will help to remove some clogged pores on my chin. These clogged pores look like little blackheads. I also have some enlarged pores and dry skin around my nose cheek area. I’m hoping that it will help to reduce the pore size. Overall, I am very happy with this product. I do recommend it! ... show more

  • It actually works!
Scent: Black Rice
Ok I want to start off saying that I have to be damned impressed with something or either really dislike it to leave a review. I've been using Amazon for years and I think this is the 4th review I've done. With that being said I am a self professed makeup/beauty product snob and if given the opportunity will spend hours in Sephora/Ulta. Thank you Jesus for internet shopping!! Ok so about the Dr.Melaxin Peel Shot Black Rice Serum, I wasn't expecting much being that its but I've wasted much more than $17 on stuff that doesn't work so I figured why not? Well, I'm glad I got 2 cuz this is everything!! Just seeing all that dead nasty skin peel off is so rewarding for some reason and omg it makes my skin so smooth and hydrated. I'm 45 so everything on me is dried out somethin awful. I typically just use this twice a week and since I've been using it I don't have to dermaplane or use micro dermabrasion near as often as before. I can wipe my forehead and not have skin falling from my face like it's snowing. It's one of a few products that I must have on hand at all times and will continue to buy. You can imagine my excitement when I saw today that they have all these different versions when they only had the black rice one before. I'ma be ordering 2 different versions today. The Dr.Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating TX Serum and the brightening one. I love me a good beauty day. You do a hair mask, Foot and hand mask, epilate your entire body cuz I mean who wants all that hair on them. Then you gotta break out the special shampoo/condition/body lotion's and self tanner. I'd get my hair and nails done the same day but it's hard being beautiful plus I'm busy watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta while snacking on some Parmesan and garlic pretzels and snuggling with my Shorkie. Do yourself a favor and get this. Thank me later!! ... show more

  • Not a miracle treatment
Scent: Black Rice
This peel is more of an exfoliant than the “miracle treatment” it’s often made out to be on social media. I was expecting more dramatic results from the Peel Shot, but it mainly left my skin feeling smoother and more exfoliated. Be careful to use it though because it can leave your skin irritated. If you’re looking for a good exfoliating treatment, it’s worth trying. Just don’t go into it expecting miracles or overnight transformation. ... show more
