  • Professional Video, Reliable, Fun!
Style: Anafi Base
First Impressions: I wound up buying the Parrot Anafi because of my positive experience with the Bebop 2 and the amazing customer support I have experienced through Parrot. In fact, I have over 70 flights under my belt with the Bebop 2 and I still have yet to have one issue that wasn’t user related. I am absolutely blown away with the Anafi model. This drone is incredibly small, light, and easy to take anywhere. The entire package is extremely easy to use from operating the drone, downloading firmware, and the use of Free Flight 6. I have conducted 12 flights so far (over 2 hours) and have had zero issues with the Anafi. You can view any of my flights on YouTube by searching Aaron Schug, all recorded in 4K. I will continue to update the review as I fly the Anafi! Tips for Flying: This drone, like the Bebop 2 and DJI Mavic drones is very easy to fly. It essentially flies itself. It holds its position via GPS and does a great job of it. Even in high winds the drone remains stable. In fact, without GPS lock (you can tell because the app tells you if you have lock or not), the drone still holds its position quite well but does drift a little. This drone does NOT have anti-collision sensors. Keep in mind that if you don't pay attention, it might just fly into something. I personally don't like to become too reliant on anti-collision because doesn't always work. If you pay attention to your surroundings, you will be just fine without the anti-collision technology. if this is your first time flying a drone, there are a few things that I would highly encourage you to do. It may seem overkill, but it will save you a lot of money in the long run. Flying a drone can be disorienting, if you play video games, flying this will come naturally. But it will still take practice. That is why I would recommend buying a cheap $20-$30 drone that has no GPS lock, no auto hover, no auto positioning of any kind. If you can reliably navigate your home with a little drone, this thing will be easy. Ensure that you have all the firmware updates on the drone, the app, and the Sky Controller 3 before flying. Take things slow when you first fly your drone. Keep it in video mode for the first flight; video mode slows the actions of the drone down for better video quality. This is great to learn with since the drone will move more slowly. Conduct your first flight in a big open area such as a park. Test all of the features of the drone at this big open area. Test the GPS lock, the return home, the dronies, sport mode, everything you can. This not only familiarizes you with the drone and its features, but ensures that the drone is reliable in those features such as the very important return home. Before every flight conduct a flight check. My flight checks include calibration the drone. It takes about 30 seconds and will help ensure that the drones compass is correct. I also check that the props are secure, the battery is locked in, and that you have GPS lock on both your drone and your mobile device before taking off. Free Flight 6: The new Free Flight 6 app is very user friendly. If you are use to Free Flight Pro, you will see that it is similar, but a much more polished app. It is very easy to navigate settings, set up a flight plan, or use the Dronies/Follow Me/Camera Man features. The one downside is that you do have to pay for the Follow me and Free Flight functions. Thankfully they are well worth the money because they work very well. I think of it as an investment to fund parrot on making the apps work better. I actually got an e-mail from Parrot that offered both the Follow Me and Flight Plan apps for $0.99 each for being a loyal customer! The downside is that I already bought the additions and google play wouldn’t help me out. So if you have owned any Parrot drones before, you might want to set up the drone and add it to your Parrot account right away so they see you bought the Anafi. Then wait a week or so to see if you will get the offer! Flight Time/Batteries: I can’t believe how much flight time you get out of such a tiny battery. I really like the way that Parrot integrated a light bar in the battery so you can see the level of charge. You never want your lipo batteries to be too low or too high in charge if you are storing them. Hopefully a company out there will make a charger that will give you more data on the battery and allow you to “storage” them like the Bebop 2 had. I am fortunate enough to have a phone with a USB C cable, so charging the battery is very easy for me as I have multiple cables and ways to charge the battery. I have noticed that the battery does take a very long time to charge, hours in my experience. It may be worth buying a GoPro supercharger to speed up the charge times a bit. The batteries are also very expensive. If you want to have a spare or two, it will cost you $99.99 each! Camera: The camera on the Anafi is extremely nice and is made by Sony. It is clear that Parrot wanted to be recognized as a company that can make a more serious drone. You have the option of 4K HDR (30FPS), 4k, and 1080p (60FPS). The camera works very well. As with any camera, the best time to use it is when there is adequate light. My first use with this drone was around 7:30am with overcast skies. The video still looked good, but not great (this is the case with any camera). When you fly in well lit scenarios, the quality of the camera truly shines. You can achieve lossless X3 zoom! The zoom also helps make some really cool videos. One of the really neat things about this camera is the ability to look straight up! Range: The distance you get out of this drone can vary depending on where you are flying. If you are in a residential area where there is a lot of Wi-Fi such as around houses or near hotels, you will lose connection very easily. This is the main reason why I think drone makers should move away from Wi-Fi for drones. However, when you fly in an area with very little/no Wi-Fi and a clear line of sight, you can get amazing results. I was able to fly mine just over two miles, the drone returned home on its own even though it didn’t completely lose signal which seemed odd, but it still got out very far. There were even some houses/businesses around. By the time the Anafi had gotten back to me it still had 31% battery too! ... show more

  • Awsome images, perfect for beginners
Style: Anafi Base
After several flight sessions, I can now post my own review. Some friends of mine have DJI products, I tested both Spark and Mavic Air, and I can confirm that Anafi is a choice I'm really happy with. As a first try, on each very first flight, I even felt more secure with Anafi as take off and landing seemed to operate quite autonomously. And the release of Mavic Pro 2 and Mavic Zoom does not change my opinion: for sure, they must be good drones but much heavier (2 to 3 times) and twice the price... You cannot really compare those products. Although I got many drones (Auto Evo), I am still not an expert. Anafi is perfect for beginners (Also for the most confirmed) with a quick installation that takes only a few minutes. The Freeflight6 app is designed with the same principle and provides a user-friendly interface (Not overloaded with options and unnecessary information). I did not have any compatibility problem with my phone and the last upgrade brings many improvements. I can now define the minimum flight altitude during a RTH. On the drone characteristics, I was not disapointed and it corresponds to the different reviews I saw before buying it: it's compact, light and very quiet compared to other drones I tested. At sea, I flew from the shore over my son who was sailing a small boat quite far, and he didn't notice I was filming because he couldn't hear my Anafi flying over his head. I was flying about a 100 feet high from what I can remember. Amazing images. Another strength: flight autonomy, around 25 minutes ! I can record a great video without having 3 extra batteries in my pocket. The extra batteries are a bit expensive, but I only bought one as you can charge everywhere and easily with USB-c charging. To reduce charging time, it is necessary to use a USB Power Delivery charger (9V or 12V). It charges the battery in 1h30. I didn't take many photos, because I use the Anafi mainly to record videos. The video quality is awesome with good contrast. I will test very soon the different lenses I’ve seen on Amazon. The HDR can bring an artisitc touch to shots with its saturated colors. The drone is extremly stable and the camera movements are fluid. At this price, this is the only drone with lossless zoom and a 180 camera : 2 features that will please people who look to make sophisticated shots. Cine shots features are great, specially the reveal mode. Parrot hit big with Anafi and I can see that software update keep making it a much better product. Got a crush on that product !After several flight sessions, I can now post my own review. Anafi is one of the best drones in its category. Some friends of mine had DJI products, I tested both Spark and Mavic Air and I can confirm that Anafi has nothing to envy. As a first try, I even felt more secure with Anafi as take off and landing seemed to operate quite autonomously. • Anafi Thermal - rating brought down by Parrot's horrendous support.
Style: Anafi Thermal
The Parrot Anafi Thermal appears to have it all compared to the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise - zoom, 21 MP sensor, 4k video, adjustable FLIR camera, low noise, ready to fly in 3 seconds, light weight and tiny, etc. This all sounds great until you actually get it. The drone itself is pretty good. It is more durable than what it looks since it has carbon fiber legs. The Free Flight 6 app is okay, but needs to have more options for professionals. The only way to get above the 492 foot limit is to use the flight plan. That works but when I'm inspecting 1000' buildings I really would prefer to not have to put in the flight plan to go high just to then inspect on the way down. Range is flaky. You might be lucky if you get a 1000'. If range is a concern, and I think it is when it is advertised as a commercial drone for inspections and search and rescue, then you need to look elsewhere. The microSD slot cannot format a large card without trickery, even when it's on their approved list. Why Parrot? The card holder is a holdout from the 1990's cell phones - very flimsy. Even with these faults, I would have given the drone a much better review. BUT....I cannot and it's not the drones fault. It's the company - Parrot. There is a current problem with the new one I got after returning the first (write errors). The new one cannot fly more than one flight without getting an error on the app "We have found an error with the drone. Click here to contact Parrot" I click "here" and it takes me to a site that says I must contact the drone retailer for support. How does that work when it's bought on Amazon? If I uninstall the app and reinstall I can then fly again. I've tried this on several devices and it's the same thing. After I shutdown and restart for the next flight, I get the same error. I suspect it's a firmware update gone bad, but support won't contact me back for anything. How does one reapply a firmware update? Who knows? They don't have anything technical on their site other than reinstall the app, or restart the drone. I've contacted them numerous times and I get an automated response that within 48 hours a person will contact me. They have yet to reply or call back. I cannot recommend any company that will not stand behind their products. Since Parrot won't support the drone in North America, I don't understand why Amazon sells them here. If you want to buy one, just be prepared to receive no support from the company. Support will be returning the drone until you get a good one. ... show more

  • Great choice for someone new to drones
Style: Anafi Base
I have owned two drones before, but they didn't have a flight controller and were very difficult to use. I took a class recently where I got hands-on with a professional drone and decided it was time to spend the money. This drone has been a good investment and I've already seen great improvements in my skills. My goal is to get good enough with this to get my certification and start seeing if I can make a go at this professionally. First and foremost, this thing is pretty darn easy to fly. The first rule I learned in the class is when things get dicey, just let go of the controls and the drone will stop where it is and stay there while the situation gets sorted out. And this does it perfectly. I am surrounded by trees and several times I've made mistakes and gotten really close. But I was able to maneuver away from them by letting go, figuring out where I was and the drone orientation, and making small movements to get it out of danger. That being said, I have crashed it a few times and have not seen any real damage other than to the propellers. The remote that comes with it is easy to use, just turn on the drone, open the controller, plug in your phone (if you want to) and away you go. It's important to note that this drone uses GPS to establish where 'Home' is, and it isn't advisable to start flying unless it has done so. If the home point isn't properly set, you may find it trying to fly back to where you last used it if it gets into trouble. It is VERY important for anyone that wants to use this to get a little training, either online or in-person. This is an expensive device, and it's important to understand the legal aspects as well as the actual usage. The drone is designed to respond to a virtual fence to keep it from getting too far away from the controller, including too high. I suggest the beginner find those settings and set them to no more than 50 feet high and 100 feet away. As one's skills improve, it can always be increased. I spent a lot of time flying this about 3' off the ground around my back yard, doing figure eights, abrupt stops, flying it sideways, and other exercises until I got comfortable with it before I ever took it out to use it for longer distances. And it has always performed very well. I have only had two complaints. Because of the trees, the drone won't pick up a GPS signal very well, it seems to lack proper antennae or receiver as the controller never has a problem. I've also experienced WiFi interference often which is very disconcerting when it stops responding and it's 200 feet away, 200 feet up, and over a bunch of trees. The last time it happened I noticed that the interference started and went away when a large SUV drove through the parking lot, new cars have WiFi hot spots so that may have been the issue. As for the picture quality, it's simply amazing. I did a pretend inspection of my roof and could make out the types of screws used for the soffit vents. I did a mast inspection of a friend's sailboat and discovered a chafed rope at the top of the mast. There are many settings for the flight controls to make it respond as fast or as slow as one wants. It's a little overwhelming at first, but practice helps. I was surprised I had to spend 99 cents on a couple of automated features in the program. My guess is that Parrot has licensed this software and has to pay a royalty when used. That being said, it does seem a little cheap to not include it in the price. But overall, I didn't mind. ... show more

  • Great quality drone
Style: Anafi Base
What I like of the Anafi: - the camera - quiet sound - flight autonomy - it's simple app. - it's transportability - easy to recharge What I like a little less: - SD card capacity - it's GPS signal - it's charging time - it's price - it's follow me mode My overall impessions. I owned a few other drones and the Anafi is the most recent one I acquired. I like it's camera wich can be tilted 180 degrees vertical and it's zoom that goe's from 1.4 times (in 4K) to 2,8 times. It is very simple to download the video files from the Anafi: connect it to the computer, turn it on and it's readily available for downloading. It is also very quiet compare to some other drones. It's flight time of over 20 minutes is very good. The FreeFlight 6 app. is very easy to use. The Anafi is very portable and it does'nt need a dedicated charger, you only plug it in a USB charger identical as the one you use for your phone. The SD card that comes with the Anafi has a capacity of only 16 gig. which is small for a 4K camera and, so far, i could not fin a new SD card that the Anafi could use. It's GPS signal is weak in situations where you're Under tress. Even a single tree could weaken the GPS signal. The fact that the Anafi can be charged on a simple USB charger is a big plus but it can take up de 4 hours to recharge. It also look and feel a little fragile. The motors are not covered and dust and sand could get Inside. The Follow me flight mode is a must for all new drones theses days but it does'nt come with the Anafi, you have to buy it seperatly. Many say that the Anafi is a little overpriced and I agree whith that statement. The fact that the Follow me flight mode has to be bougth seperately, its just add to the original price. It is not as stable as other drones in the wind and this can affect even the camera in some situations. At least, this is what I experienced. I'm talking here of high winds, over 20 km/hr. After a flight duration of one battery filming in 4K, the SD card is almost full. As I film mostly in 1080p, I can use my Anafi for more than one battery before saving my videos on the computer. It is also difficult to determine the Anafi position and orientation when it is far away. It makes it difficult to take back or even take it out of an hasardous situation. With all the goods and despite the cons, I really enjoy my Anafi. As I said, I own other drones but the Anafi is very useful t me in many situations where other drones are not as effective. When filming around poeple, it is so quiet that many don't even suspect its presence. Also, it's camera allows me to take amazing shots by tilting it or by zooming. Only more expensive drones can offer that. The Anafi does'nt offer obstacle avoidance and prop guards but all in all, if you take good care of it and fly carefully, there's a lot to accomplish with this drone. I really like this drone and would not hesitate to recommend it. ... show more

  • Big Bang for the Buck Big Bang for the Buck
Style: Anafi Base
Bottom line up front, this drone is easy to fly, takes great pictures and video, and costs a good bit less than the high-end drones. It is also extremely portable which turns out means I use it all the time now! Some detail: This is my first drone, but I've flown RC aircraft before and am a professional pilot. The RC experience helped, but this drone is very simple to operate and does it's best to take care of the operator. I wanted to take some promotional video and pics of my businesses, but hated the idea of spending $2,000 on a Mavik Pro or Phantom, especially if I was going to use it just a handful of times. I thought I'd take a chance on this little guy. I am so very happy I did. It is awesome. The controller uses your phone as the screen which eliminates a lot of cost. The entire thing bundles up in a case smaller than a dictionary. I have operated it over water without difficulty. It flies about 20-25 minutes comfortably. I always land with a little juice on the meter. I find it to be more than enough for my needs. That's usually 3 flights per battery. I purchased one spare battery and have never used up both in a single day. I learned to select the frequency that it uses. It has a very intuitive display in the app that shows you what noise and interference is nearby, allowing you to pick a clean spot. Once I figured that out, I got ranges well past a mile. Trees and building will cut that down a bit, but I have no reason to doubt any of the performance claims made by the manufacturer. What a great piece of gear! ... show more

  • Decent drone until it destroyed itself
This is a decent price for a decent (older) drone, but be careful with the automated flight paths. I'd set up a handful of different flight paths around my property and flown them a few times without any problems. Yesterday, however, I tried a new flight path consisting of single waypoint, just attempting to position the drone at a specific starting point, and the drone decided to destroy itself. I launched the drone, flew it straight up ~100ft, and started the flight path. The FreeFlight app showed the flight path was in progress, but the drone never moved. The FreeFlight app has buttons to both pause and abort the flight path, but neither button did anything. I tried completely closing the app and reopening it, but as soon as it reconnected to the drone it would jump straight back to the flight path in progress screen with nonfunctional buttons. I tried using the physical controller, tried disconnecting and connecting my phone to the drone's wifi, but manual controls were completely locked out. Essentially the drone was stuck trying to complete a flight path which it wasn't actually attempting to complete. The app refused to allow me to abort the flight path, and the drone refused to accept any type of manual controls until the flight path completed. My only option was to allow the drone to hover until its battery ran out and it attempted to return home automatically. Which is what it did. Except when I initially launched my drone I was standing about ~10ft away from a tree, and the drone's GPS location apparently wasn't precise enough to avoid the tree when returning home. It instead decided to attempt to land directly on the top of the tree, and I was still completely locked out from manually controlling the decent. It did make some attempt to avoid the tree once its sensors detected it, but by that point it was too close. The propellers hit the branches, the motors cut, and it fell a very long way, snapping a propeller arm on impact. I recognize I'm partially to blame here. I shouldn't have been so close to the tree when I launched the drone. But still. The fact that the flight paths can fail so catastrophically that it completely locks the user out from controlling the drone is a pretty spectacular design flaw. Might be something to look out for if you get one of these. ... show more

  • Great image even when you zoom in, flight time above the competition and so quick to unfold and fly
Style: Anafi Base
I only got the drone a couple days ago so this is a first review right as I landed my third flight. To start with, with the Anafi, Parrot brings THREE NEW FEATURES on the drone market AT THIS PRICE POINT. First, the image: the Anafi captures a crisp 4K HDR which is great to work with in post. Just AirDroped some videos of a crowd from my MacBook Air to my iPhone ...the level of details is amazing even if you pinch and zoom with your mobile. The other new spec is the upward tilt of the gimbal (180°), this is a totally new perspective and I can’t wait to see what creative shots Anafi users will make out of this feature. My own creativity is puzzled. Lastly this drone offers in-camera zoom capabilities: FINALLY! This is especially great to create a vertigo effect directly from your drone as opposed to creating it in post. As for the gimbal, even in sports mode, it creates stable footage. I was worried about the 3 axis gimbal (one digital stabilization and three mechanical) but it seems to be working very well, even if I still want to explore that feature. But I read many times that the digital stab was better on the long run as it can't break as a mechanical ones... As far as the battery goes, I flew for 19min and landed with 17% battery left so we are right in that sweet spot: about 25min per battery.
