I was very excited to order this camera. I had the SD card ready when the camera arrived. I unpackaged the camera and formatted the sd card. About 10 seconds into recording, the screen read: fan stopped, and the camera stopped recording. I tried several times. I tried plugging the camera into a power source. I love it! I bought it as a B roll camera for a weekly 4-camera shoot. I primarily use Panasonic CX-350 cameras and love them. This is a smaller, more compact but fully feature-laden version of the 350. The quality isn't quite as good - but for the price, the HX-1600 performs excellent. The battery life is great (I still don't understand why Panasonic doesn't use a TIME/MINUTES remaining feature like on older cameras), but it has all the features of the 350, physical buttons, user-programmable ones (even some the 350 doesn't have like which direction you can program zoom/focus/iris on the lens ring; up or down to open/zoom/whatever...I love the customization). I first bought the X1200 after reading the manual online, but misread one thing: to get remote connectivity (to an Android pad in my case), you must purchase the X1600 or X2100. So long as you follow the manual to the letter, networking setup is a cinch. In minutes (and after installing the ROP app) I was connected via WiFi to my camera. I changed to direct connection to remotely control the X1600 and don't have to worry about finding WiFi anywhere. Connects instantly and will control this camera AND my CX-350's. Great! I bought a 12" pad (over my original 8") because the ROP app has so many (smallish) buttons/features and preview window. Much better than the original Panasonic ImageApp I used to control my HX-920. The HX-1600 with dual SD slots, high customization, compact but heavy/solid size was a great investment. The vendor was Cardinal Camera: They are fast, friendly and handled my return of the X1200 flawlessly and without any issues. They were also friendly and helpful on the phone - so I won't hesitate to buy from them again. If you don't want to spend more (like on the CX-350 or 370), this is a great option. The X2100 adds the handle, XLR inputs and a video light, but I don't need any of that for my application - plus the handle is larger/bulkier for my tight cases as it is! You can make a myriad of adjustments on the fly but I do most in post anyhow. The Built-in ND filters, programmable backlight, fast-zoom ratio, smooth controls and solid feeling buttons and high quality LCD screen make this a surprise hit and a real winner for me. The connectivity (ROP app) only sweetened the deal. If you don't need connectivity, a built-in viewfinder (only the fold-out LCD Screen), then you might want to save $400 and get the X1200...the quality is identical. If you want more connectivity with XLR, a light and some other goodies, the X2100 is the way to go, adding $500. I am happy with $1687 for this model and expect it to last a good long time - and it perfectly matches/compliments the color/clarity/performance of my Panasonic CX-350's. ... show more
