  • Fabulous and versatile lens --- Update 4/2022
Update: Everything I say about the lens below is true. The bad news is that I had a problem with my lens. When I sent it to the official Panasonic repair facility, I was told that Panasonic has marked this lens as "unrepairable". I was told in writing that Panasonic is not providing parts and has indicated to the repair facility that it is not to be repaired. So if you buy this lens, get a long-term insurance policy that will pay for replacement. I've taken 10s of thousands of images with this lens over the past few years. Most have been action shots. There is some vignetting at max zoom, but the vividness and fast-focus capability of the lens is exceptional at this price point. The lens has been durable too. I've spend countless hours standing in saltwater taking photos. It's been tossed in a pocket and backpack, and it keeps working. One of the best camera purchases I've ever made, and all of my other lenses are primes. ... show more

  • Excellent
Another quality product. Very sharp for photos and video. Colors are vivid and accurate. Lightweight compared to similar lenses, convenient size.

  • i agree that you buy the best glass you can afford... camera bodies come and go
I love panasonic/lumix.. After all these years,,, i stepped up to the G9.... which has been out for some years now... For me it was a good bang for the $$$$$ I also at this point,,,, am working on dialing i this lens. I am enjoying the color rendition,,, even before I put my shots into my silkyprints program. i am also loving the dual stabilization.... since i pretty much do handheld. awesome build quality for this lens. i will know more by this summers end ... show more

  • Good lens but Not New!
Amazon did not send a new lens in an unopened box. They sent an opened box with no packing materials and no warranty. The lens was free to bounce around inside the box during shipment. Furthermore, Amazon offered no option for a replacement. Most unsatisfactory.

  • Pretty Good. Way overpriced.
Pretty good. Wins over the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8, for me at least. For me this P-L lens wins over the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8, overall. Not based strictly on image quality however. I do think that Panasonic charges an obscene price for this lens. The Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 is a better lens to use, is faster, and is consistently slightly more sharp -- and its cheaper!! However the P-L lens is smaller, lighter and has 1/3 more reach. THAT is what won me over, not the image quality. The image quality is very good, but not quite as good as the much cheaper Olympus 50-150mm f/2.8. I have had the PL 100-400mm for several years - and my experience is about the same. That lens, like this 50-200mm, is inconsistent. The Olympus competition is CONSISTENTLY sharp. You don't have to take multiple shots and cross your fingers. With the P-L, you do. But because of the overall solid performance, lower size and weight, and more reach - I did go with the P-L 50-200mm lens. I do not want to carry the Olympus in my backpack all week unless it is notably better in image quietly. It is not. It is however slightly more sharp and consistently so. FYI - All of my comparisons were wide open on both lenses. I usually shoot wide open and besides, lenses just get better when stopped down. We all get that. Comparison of P-L vs Olympus - Olympus has a cool hood. Not a big deal for me personally. It also has that cool function button which is nice. Oh - and it has a tripod collar. The P-L could use one when its zoomed out, but does not come with one. - Olympus is slightly sharper in general and is a uniform f/2.8. If you only care about IQ and not size/weight, get the Olympus. It's amazing. And its much cheaper. - Olympus has slightly better contrast. I general I did not see this as a big deal. - Olympus is CONSISTENT shot to shot. The P-L output varies some, just like my P-L 100-400mm. - Olympus is cheaper. Panasonic is crazy to charge what they charge. But I bought it so I'm a sucker I guess. - Panasonic is smaller and lighter. I carry lenses for many miles and many days. I ski with these lenses. So to me, size and weight matter. - Panasonic has 200mm versus 150mm. Thats significant. I expect to be on the long end often, and I won't have to carry a T/C. - Finally note that Panasonic is actually sharp at 200mm. Nice. Good luck! There is no clear winner. It depends what you value. ... show more

  • Great Leica lens
The more time I've used/owned this lens, the more I like it. I use it on my Oly EM1-2 and it produces stunning images on the pixel density of the 20mpx m4/3 sensor, and makes excellent prints even 16x20" are superb (but only after learning the camera did I get that.)

  • Amazing lens, wish it had a zoom lock
This lens is everything I wanted EXCEPT it doesn’t have a lock to keep the lens from extending when you walk around with it. Certainly not a dealbreaker but I really my 1500 dollar lens would lock just like a dslr lens. Way cheaper glass has this feature. IQ and stabilization are awesome though and I feel like this focal length is a much better for most photography (I am mostly an outdoor/adventure/ski photographer) than the 100 - 300 focal length. ... show more
