We bought this unit because in our existing Panasonic KX-TGF540 system with four phones, one phone's headset port failed and one base failed to charge after a couple of years of use. We used the purchased phone to replace the phone with the failed headset port seated in the base unit and the purchased base to replace the failed base (which seems to have failed because we unknowingly spilled some liquid into it, which wasn't cleaned up). Both devices have been working fine for a few weeks. We disposed of the failed base unit and use the phone with only the failed headset port as a floater, a fifth phone in a four-base system. To keep it charged, we alternate the fifth phone with another phone in one of the charging bases every few days. We had retained our Panasonic operating instructions, but we could have programmed the purchased phone into our system with the instructions provided by the seller, which I verified were accurate and well written. Great looking unit. Frankly, a new one doesn't "look" any better. The flaw, however, was internal. One of the battery springs (where the flat base of the battery is inserted) was totally bent and stretched beyond repair, and I sure tried to fix it! No luck. Had to return the unit for want of a very minor, but obviously key element. In total, a great-looking rebuilt unit, but not quite rebuilt enough, so never got to know if it worked. ... show more
