This is a really nice starter set for someone who is just getting into the hobby. Don't forget to get yourself (or your gift recipient) a package or two of practice skins ;-) The only thing we didn't really like about this set was the feel of the plastic foot pedal, but we had another pedal that we swapped in to use instead, so it's all good. ... show more

    • Seems like it's a decent introductory kit for learning.
I've wanted a tattoo machine for a very long time, but knew that the ones I could get weren't very good. I'd heard good things about the rotary machines, and saw this one and decided to finally just go for it. I spent a while watching videos and reading the instructions (not very detailed, but some basics about setting the machine up), and tried it out on the test skin. It did as expected, and felt very, very comfortable. The whole kit is packed up very nicely for the most part, with sterile needles and everything. The plastic cups (for putting the ink in to let the needle absorb the ink, aren't sterile. Not sure if that's a thing. But this kit is more for practice on things that aren't living animals, so that's not super important. Note that the inks that come with the kit might not be the ones you'd want to use on real skin, just in case you're thinking about it. They do say that they "complies w/EU code" but I'm in the US and don't know if there's a different standard here. Also, weirdly, the inks don't explain how to open the bottles. I think you're supposed to cut the large round thing off the top, like with superglue bottles, but that seems odd and potentially messy. I'm going to try tattooing fruit next. In the end, I absolutely can't attest to the quality of this kits compared to anything else, as this is the only one I've ever tried, but I've heard stories of the older type kits available here, and they were not at all easy to use. This one absolutely is easy to use, and feels very comfortable as a starter kit for learning. Given the general range of these kinds of introductory kits, I think this is probably one of the better ones, and so far I'm happy I got it. ... show more

    • Might not be for all beginners
I like the amount of supplies this kit comes with but I don't like the size and weight of the machine itself. Some tattoo artists are heavy handed (which is a problem already) but that shouldn't be just because the tattoo machine is too heavy. This might be a good starter kit in general however, you may find that tattooing with a lighter tattoo machine gives you more accurate results and less fatigue. If you use grip tape on a machine this size, you will want to apply very little tape because it is already on the large side. The amount of ink it comes with is nice, especially if you are wanting to tattoo colorful designs, but I wouldn't recommend using this ink on your skin. ... show more

Fantastic setup, particularly for the beginning tattooist. This is the most complete setup I have yet to come across. If you're a beginner, this is for you. The star of this kit is definitely the tattoo pen, which I am in love with. It fits my hand perfectly, and it's beautifully made. Check out the knurling toward the base, and the shape of the base of the handle. In addition to the great tattoo pen, this kit also includes the following: A decent quality power supply with A/C power cord and power cord to the tattoo pen, a set of 20 tattoo needle cartridges (10 liners, 10 shaders), a pedal (rheostat) to control the voltage to the tattoo pen, a set of 10 small "practice" inks, a set of blue latex exam gloves, a bag of ink caps, a roll of grip tape in black (to customize your grip, a black tray cover, a single tube of ointment, a tattoo machine blue transparent cover sleeve, a single thin sheet of synthetic tattoo skin for practice, a single sheet of design transfer paper, and a user manual. I would certainly recommend this setup for anyone starting out. This is geared toward your initial practice sessions, and naturally these give you a sense of what you need, but it is not a stock of the items you will need to actually tattoo. This tattoo kit it great for someone just starting out in the art of tattooing. It comes with everything you need to get going including a rotary pen, needles, transfer paper, ink, and so much more. The machine itself I feel is made more for larger hands. My hands are on the small side so the machine felt a bit awkward for me to hold comfortably which is my only real "con". Very minimal vibration and extremely quiet while in use compared to other machines I've used and/or heard, which at first made me question whether it was working properly. It’s a complete tattoo kit, with everything a beginning tattooer may need. Looking to test out your skills with a tattoo gun, this is perfect, as it even has fake skin (which also can be bought) to test out on. It really did impress me, with everything that was included in the kit, for such a low amount. It’s fun to play with it and fake skins, maybe I’ll eventually get the nerve to try and brighten my own tattoos, but until then, I like trying out different things on the practice skin.     • Runs smooth but is heavy
I like this a lot with a cordless power supply. It's pretty heavy but runs A LOT smoother than cheap ones that come with a cordless power supply. I was at first like No way because it felt heavy but it really runs with any kind of carts very nicely and that keeps this at the top of my list. The pedal on this is VERY laggy and once again I use it with a different power supply than what it came with but overall I'm very pleased with how this runs especially compared to others in it's price range. ... show more
