So good, so worth it. It's like having 4 hands. Going up a ladder with a plank, a nailer, and a level, you still do not need another person to help you with this. If you are working alone, I actually am not sure how you side the house without these. I'm sure you would have to fabricate something similar. Even working with another person, I found these to be amazing. Have the other guy be cut man on the ground, and keep sending you up pieces that you set perfectly each time without having to re-measure. For the first 1/2 of the house I did, were were constantly re-checking level, and our layout and it was a good thing we did, these gauges take getting used to. Make sure you flush the gauge all the way up to the bottom of the board. Sometimes they can sit in an angle, and that 1/8th inch on 1 board can get out of hand in a couple rows if you aren't paying attention. Also make sure you keep the height adjustment bolts tight. I actually lost one of my plastic washers, but was able to find the bolt. Probably not that hard to replace, but just a hassle. If you are going to have these higher than a few feet over anything but grass, buy these and not the plastic ones. I dropped mine on concrete from about 20 feet and dented a corner, still works perfectly. These hold real well, I felt comfortable in how well these held on to slide in 12' boards from a ladder 10' away. Even with the tight grip, there was no damage to any of the boards. The locking handle moves super easy, doesn't take hard wrenching or anything that could be problematic on a really high ladder. Does only 1" increments for reveals. 5",6",7",8". Probably not an issue for most, but something to keep in mind. Still an excellent tool for holding a plank in place, even if I had to fudge a board 1/4"-1/2" or so to adjust my layout. I bought these for 1 siding job and found them to be worth the money. I sold them to my carpenter for 50% cost, but I'm sure you could do better if you wanted. ... show more

I Purchased this product after years of making my own site made clips for siding. I would recommend these for anyone working alone hanging longer sections of lap siding. I recently used them to hang 3/8x8x16' LP SmartSide textured lap siding and they were very helpful and were capable of holding the weight of the lap siding. The levers are a cam which applies pressure to the lap siding material to friction fit in place holding the loose piece above. It took a few pieces to get used to how far to tighten the level/cam, too far and the tool would rock away from the wall, too little and it would not hold. Once you have a feel for the level/cam they work very well. I read others reviews prior to purchasing and I did not experience issues with micro adjustments as noted in the other reviews. I was able to install at a desired lap of 1-1/8" easily and consistently. The tool held up from a durability standpoint and several drops from 12'-16' onto rock, grass, concrete, etc. I would note the provided acorn cap nut on the lap size adjustment bolt came off multiple times during the first project. I ended up swapping the acorn cap nut for a nylon lock nut and it fixed the issue. I would recommend doing this. The only other suggestion I would have is potentially swapping the direction of the lever/cam to point down when engaged. When handing 16' material by myself I inadvertently hit the lever/cam downward several times which causes the tool to drop to the ground. Overall I would recommend this tool to others. I would give a 5 star review if they came with nylon lock nuts in lieu of acorn cap nuts. ... show more

These things were an absolute life saver. I sided my entire house with them. It would have been insanely difficult without them, i.e., I would’ve needed another set of hands because 12 ft cement fiber boards are friggin heavy. They’re also excellent for taking quick measurements for tricky cuts, e.g., take a small piece of siding and put it on a gauge next to whatever it is that needs a non-uniform. They’re really easy to use. They have a bunch of different settings for different reveals. They don’t scratch the siding. I even used them to help hold up the trim under the eves. Tried the rest, sent them all back, and now using the best. The Gecko siding tool is absolutely the best of all the siding tools. It doesn't slip, sag or bow out when you tighten the handle like the others do. If you're doing a siding job be it DIY or you're a Pro, buy these!!

Great tool to help improve your siding installation efficiency. Allows 1 person to install siding planks by themselves. Slips between the siding planks easy enough and tightens on it with a lift of the lever.
