Pros: 1 - Excellent sound quality 2 - Excellent build quality 3 - Triode and Ultralinear modes 4 - Three input sources Cons: 1 - No remote 2 - LEDs under preamp tubes As an audiophile with many decades of listening experience, I can say without hesitation the Juson PA2 is the best tube amplifier that I have ever heard... for this price. Of course I have heard better sounding amplifiers and owned more expensive amps but this one sits atop the value ladder. I like to think of it as the Willsenton R8 for the working class. Having previously owned a Willsenton R8, this amplifier reminds me of it in terms of design philosophy given its ability to handle different tube types. While the R8 could swap power tubes, the Juson allows you to swap preamp tubes. Sound: In terms of sound signature, first I should provide some context. I connected the PA2 to my Infinity Primus 360 (93db) floor standing speakers and streamed from my Roon endpoint via a Loxjie D40 pro DAC (ESS ES9039 MS Pro). I used both Ultralinear and Triode modes for testing. I found the amp surprisingly neutral in that it sounds like the tubes you are using while adding no discernible character of its own. Keeping in mind that I did the majority of my listening for this review with the stock tubes, I found the sound stage to be average in width but perhaps a bit shallow in depth. (the tubes have only 3 hours of use so I expect that to change somewhat). Despite the slightly shallow sound stage, I had no difficulty localizing instruments when listening to orchestral music. For a tube amplifier, the PA2 presents leaning towards accuracy. I did not find it to be "tubey" in any way but instead more like a top quality class A/B amp while in ultralinear mode. In triode mode however, I found the amp to be somewhat analytical. Great recordings sounded amazingly good but bad recordings were worse than I remembered. There's no hiding from this amp if you're a bad recording. In terms of sound comparison to the Dynaco ST70, the PA2 sounds nothing like it. The PA2 is a much faster amplifier but not punchy. it delivers low bass but maintains absolute control unlike the ST70. In ultralinear mode, it had no problem delivering distortion free floor shaking pipe organ. Features: I like that the PA2 is an integrated amplifier with three inputs. Perhaps the best feature I have found so far is that the amplifier does not hiss or hum. There is a turn on relay so speaker output is cut off when the amp is powered off. There is also at least one selector relay which I can hear click between Aux and CD (could not hear a click between CD and Tape). Unfortunately there is no remote control but I set the volume to 12:00 and used the volume control on the DAC (CD input) and the results were excellent. I did not like that there were LEDs under the preamp tubes to give them extra glow. To the manufacturers, please stop doing this or put a switch on the amp so that they can be turned off. Also, I found the meter needle impossible to see from across the room. It's red and thin but too hard to see against the black background from a distance. I would have preferred a white background or RGB lighting for the meter (analog meter, lcd background. a little innovation wouldn't hurt). Conclusion: Despite the low, low price, this is a serious amplifier and worthy of audition by anyone who is looking at a Dynaco Stereo 70. As someone who has had four ST70 amps over the decades, I can say that the Juson PA2 amplifier offers a modern alternative for those who don't want to deal with the issues you get with a 60 year old tube amplifier. For those considering the Willsenton R8 with EL34 tubes, I think that the PA2 is not only a better value but a better sounding amplifier in that configuration. For me, I love the Juson PA2 and it has already earned a prominent place in my permanent audio collection. Thanks for reading and good luck in your audio journey. ... show more
