Description
The OXO Good Grips 11-Pound Food Scale with Pull-Out Display is perfect for portioning meat, produce, spices and more. Weigh items directly on the platform, on a plate or in a bowl. The display pulls away from the base to prevent shadowing from large containers. A weight indicator shows the capacity left on the Scale before the 11-pound maximum is reached. Press the Zero button to offset the weight of a container or to set the weight back to zero before adding additional ingredients. The display features large, easy-to-read numbers in 1/8-ounce (US) and 1-gram (metric) increments. The platform is easy to clean by hand and the Scale’s thin profile stores neatly. OXO Delivers as usual
I finally decided that a scale with a larger read out would be easier and more enjoyable to use. First.little bit about me. I have lost a significant amount of weight in the past year, and a major element in my regimen is that I weigh my portions. Second, I have very poor eyesight. I had been using a rather thin, glass topped scale that was entirely touchscreen. It got to a point that realized that a scale with a larger, more legible read out would be more efficient for me. After some research, I settled on this OXO, despite it being more pricey than many of its competitors. I can't express sincerely enough how delighted I am that I paid the little bit extra. Rather than a touchscreen, the scale has tactile buttons on either side of the read out, which is plenty large and vivid enough for me to read easily. The buttons are responsive, and the readout is lightning quick. From other uses, I have a 50 gram testing weight in the house, and the scale is spot on to the exact gram. . I haven’t had it long enough to determine if there will be problems cleaning it. Also, I haven’t used the pull out display panel feature yet, but I have experimented with it when the scale wasn’t in use, and it’s operation is smooth and simple. The only possible negative I can think of is that unlike the very slim profile of the scales that it is replacing, it’s a bit thicker, so storage may or may not be an issue depending on your space available. Simply stated, I am delighted with this scale, and I can't imagine anything providing a better experience.

Great kitchen scale
I had to replace my old OXO kitchen scale which was misplaced in a recent move. These scales are amazing. They are accurate and durable. The weight can be switched to metric and it is easy to read. Finally cleanup is a breeze. It does come with batteries installed.

Perfect for my bread making.
The scale is a bit pricey for a scale but it lives up to its price. It's very consistent and weighs a few grams to pounds of wheat berries or dough effortlessly. I like that it's small and by using the pull out you can tare out the weight of a larger flat plate for example and put something on it and you automatically have a larger scale.

The Pull-Out Display Makes a Huge Difference
My previous kitchen scale broke, so I decided to give the OXO brand a try, and I'm glad I did. It's bigger than my previous scale, and I especially love that the display can be pulled out when weighing larger items. There's no more struggling to see the display or having to elevate whatever I'm weighing so it doesn't block the screen. It is a bit pricey for a kitchen scale, but I definitely think it's worth it. OXO for quality
I have wasted so much money recently on cheap kitchen scales that broke after the return window (seriously, one broke a week past it's return window.) Finally, I gave up and spent money on a trusted brand. We are very happy with this one. The scale section is removeable and washable, and the pull out display gives extra room for larger bowls - those 2 features alone made it worth the purchase. Excellent design and high quality build, as per usual with OXO products. You get what you pay for: this one costs, but it is worth it if you are a constant user and need accuracy and functionality.

It's GREAT - but please read this (error in instruction manual)
I'm an accomplished cook and I occasionally bake. For over 35 yrs, I always have a reliable weigh scale in my kitchen as I believe this is a necessary appliance for getting great results and for managing ingredients and portions. This is the 4th scale I've owned as the previous ones all broke, for some reason or another. My most recent one was dropped on the floor by me, so the failures aren't always due to the manufacturer. There are a couple of features that are must-haves when I buy a food scale: - must have metric and imperial measurements and can toggle easily back and forth - must be able to read the screen even when there's a large bowl/container on top - must have reliable zero-ing capability - cannot time out quickly (this is a huge issue for me) I searched high and low for a replacement scale that would satisfy all of the above and more and decided on the somewhat pricey OXO Good Grips 11-lb scale. Here are my thought after using it for 2 weeks: a) The surface area is large and flat which is nice for sturdiness and balance. It's actually quite a bit larger than my last scale which I like. b) The pull-out feature of the display is pretty nifty so if there is a big bowl on top of the scale, seeing the screen won't be a problem. However, I will caution 2 observations here: First , the cord attachment for the screen isn't that long, at least it's a lot shorter than I subconsciously expect it to be. So the first few times I pulled it out, I accidentally yanked on it because I expected it to be longer. Be careful: if you do this like I did but over and over again, I imagine this will damage the connection. Also, slipping the screen back into place seems a bit awkward.. There's a tiny, I mean TINY little handle on the front of the screen that you're supposed to clasp and push the screen back in. Yeah, right. I don't have big hands nor fingers and this tiny handle is impossible to grab. And the screen doesn't automatically slide into place. So be prepared to have to manipulate this a bit. Not gonna lie, I think this makes it kinda annoying to put the screen back in place. c) There's very effective rubber grips on the bottom of the scale. Not sure how they did it, but mine actually suction cup to my quartz countertop! d) When you turn it on, for some reason it "counts down from 3." Like....why? To warn you that you're about to weigh something? Or maybe to get ready for a spectacular blue LED screen? This feature doesn't affect the outcome of the weighing process, but it does add time. If I'm ready and eager to start measuring flour so I can bake cookies, it seems unnecessary to have to stand there for an additional 3+ seconds for the scale to count down. And for what? e) I wasn't sure if I needed the "pounds - oz" or "kg - gram" display. I figured that if my ingredients measured 18 oz, then I can calculate that in my head as 1lb, 2 oz. But I see now that it's kinda nice to have the ability to just look at the screen and have the scale tell me that. I don't know if this feature is necessary for everyone, but I wouldn't buy or not buy a scale because of it from now on. f) I really appreciate the low battery warning. For obvious reasons, this would be a deal breaker if my weigh scale didn't have this. Too much risk involved without it. g) Now here is where I need to super critical. There's an error in the instruction manual which bothers me and could cause a HUGE SETBACK in your cooking or baking if you don't read what I'm about to say. This scale comes with a STANDBY MODE, meaning after about 5 min, the screen will dim, probably for power saving. And after 15 min, the device will completely shut off. The instructions say that in order to get your screen out of standby mode, you are to "press any button" to continue. However, if you have a weight sitting on the scale when the screen goes into STANDBY mode, you CANNOT press just any button or you will lose your weight! There are only 2 buttons on this scale: The Power/Zero button and the lb/kg button. If you press the Power/Zero button while there is a weight on the scale and it is in standby mode, then you will SHUT OFF THE DEVICE. I did this and I lost my weights! If you have a weight on the scale and the device goes into STANDBY MODE, the only other button you can press without erasing your weights is the lb/kg button. If there is NO WEIGHT on your scale when it goes into standby mode, then sure, press the power button or the lb/kg button since there are no weights to erase. My advice? If you can help it, just get into the habit of pressing the lb/kg button only when your scale goes into standby mode, regardless if there's a weight on top or not. This way, you will guarantee that you never erase your weights and potentially put yourself into a huge predicament. This is my biggest complaint about this weigh scale and that is that the instruction manual is actually incorrect. All-in-all, I would give this scale 5 stars because it's the largest and has the most features I've ever had in a weigh scale. I do like the feature where I can pull out the screen; it's pretty nifty. But like I said, I have to be careful pulling it out and replacing it so it's not perfect. This weirdism may or may not bother you. It's a bit pricey compared to other scales but I guess if it's lasts a long time, it will be worth it. If you can find this exact scale for $30 or less, I say grab it. I paid $53 for mine, which is more than twice what I paid for my last scale which lasted bout 7 yrs before I broke it. This is why I only gave it 4 stars since it's a much higher price point than most.

Five stars. The stars are being weird when I click on them, so if they don't show 5, just know I tried. We've had a couple different food scales now and this one is our favorite. Love that the weight doesn't disappear after just a few seconds, but stays up for a few minutes, and we also love the pull out display. Much more user friendly for meal prep.
