    • Fan is very quiet
The media could not be loaded. This 4-bay JBOD replaces - or perhaps augments - an OWC 4-bay (JBOD or 2+2 RAID depending on config) I got many years ago. The older unit has connections for USB (B?), FW400, FW800 and e-SATA. Besides being slow by today’s standards, the fan is quite loud. But it has worked well for many years. The newly received and in-service 4-bay JBOD uses USB C connection and the 4 hard drives from the older unit work great. I did remove the HDDs from their brackets, used the brackets from the new JBOD, all fits well, the HDDs spin up great and all the data is readily available. Throughput between the new JBOD and my Mac Studio has increased by about 4x. This has immensely helped with the process flow importing, editing and rendering 4K video from a couple of Sony PXW-Z150 camcorders. The fan on the new JBOD is so very quiet, almost like there is no fan. My next project is to migrate the external HDDs to SSDs and decide what to do with the old unit… maybe turn it into an external drive array connected to a server in another room where fan noise is much less of an issue and use the 2+2 RAID DIP settings for redundant network backups… I will buy this new JBOD again if video work-in-progress space requirements warrant. ... show more
