  • Updated Review: Great product, just be careful with your retraction settings.
Color: Silk Copper
UPDATE: I found that this filament needs slightly lower retraction settings than I use on other silk filaments, and I had to disable z-hop as well. The z-hop (because its a vertical motor movement, which takes longer than X & Y) would take a fraction of a second before actually moving out of the Z axis. And this fraction of a second let some filament ooze out of the nozzle, which over several layers would result in long blob strings building up over time (seen in the retraction towers photo). I've uploaded some more recent photos that are 100x better (though there's still a slight bit of stringing, its such a minor amount that it doesn't bother me). I've attached photos of the material settings I had to make for overture silk filaments. Hopefully it helps others. Leaving my below (now inaccurate) review in case it's similar to the experience someone else may be having. ORIGINAL (Inaccurate) REVIEW: I personally really like Overtures PLA filaments. I would say maybe 1/3rd of my filaments are from them. And I've printed a decent amount of silk PLA as well (just not Overture brand). I purchased the Overture Silk Copper PLA filament, and the first thing I printed was a filament sample. And the majority of the surface looked ok except for the one spot with the letters "PLA". I figured maybe it was just something minor and went on to try printing a turbine for a model of a jet engine, and as you can see in the photos, it was absolutely disastrous. I put it next to another silk print of the same part and print settings (I actually just reprinted the same model/gcode after changing the filament. I dried the filament then tried increasing/decreasing the temperature, retraction distance/speed, print speed, z-offset, and tried printing various calibration towers for speed, temperature and retraction. And the globing/stringing is present. I Googled "overture silk PLA issues" and it looks like this is a somewhat common problem with Overtures silk PLA filaments. I will still continue to buy from Overture, but not for silk filaments. If I ever find a combination of settings that prevent these issues, I will be sure to update this post with those values. Thanks. ... show more

  • Worked well on my Prusa i3MK3S+
Color: 1kg Black
At first I thought it was going to be a problem. I opened the vacuum sealed package, mounted the filament and it broke, I only used about the first two feet of the spool. I reloaded the filament and it's done a couple of four hour prints since then no problem. Adhesion to the PEI sheet was very good. I use hair spray to make it stick with PLA or as the release agent with PETG. ... show more

  • Excellent PLA
Color: Red
I have used many spools of Overture PLA and have been very happy with it. It flows well and looks good. I had one issue with one spool which would not feed properly it appeared to have been loaded onto the spool too tightly. Overture immediately shipped me a replacement, no questions asked. Excellent customer service. ... show more

  • Sticky on spool
Color: White 2-pack
Overall this product prints okay when dry. My biggest issue is the filament sticks together on the spool causing AMS errors. I absolutely cannot leave a print running overnight with this product...it almost certainly will stop printing overnight and ruin the print. I find it best used as small part 1-2 hour test material. ... show more

  • Cheap and Quality Filament
Color: 1kg White
The white is great! It’s cheap and of good quality! Can’t beat it!

  • Best PLA so far!
Color: Silk Blue
First off, I am very new at this whole 3D printing thing. I had tried another brand of filament to start off with. Unfortunately I didn't realize that I needed to do some upgrades on my machine for a couple of the filaments (Carbon fiber and PETG) and the PLA I was using was ok, but kept failing on bigger prints. So I ordered this. After finding the optimal temperature, WOW! It prints beautifully. One of the designs I printed was something I downloaded, the other was something I made just to test designs and practice with. Other than the text on one of them being too small to print well (a design error), they both came out fantastic. At this point I'll still try some other filaments I'm sure, but Overture, if all of their filaments are like this, will have a repeat customer. ... show more

  • good filament, just don't let it sit too long
Color: Green (Glow in Dark)
I have had great results with Overture filament over the years, and honestly is my go-to for anything I need to print at scale. What did bother me about this particular filament though was that even out of the gate I was starting to have problems with it breaking off during printing. I was able to continue on, but that required restarting the full print due to my resume settings not working as I expected them to. If I was to purchase this again, I may throw it into the dryer first before attempting another print. ... show more

  • Struggling with adhesion on textured plates
Color: 1kg Black
Had this PLA loaded on my FLSUN superracer for several days now. And I'm a FNG to 3D printing. I've struggled to get this one to stick to my textured bed. Currently finding 210/68 to make it stick well, but I think I need more nozzle heat per reading some reviews. It held great on the OEM bed plate, but I want that texture for printing items with big flat surfaces like lithographs or small boxes. I'm still really new to 3D printing so take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm seeing good input on the reviews, used enough meters of this stuff on my system already I thought I'd share my learnings so far. Really like this black matte color and the textured finish the magnetic build plate provides, just not 100% dialed yet as I struggle with the stringers on the initial layers. I'm leaning to more nozzle temp per readings in this products review thread. Will try using the finer pitch setting as I see many comments that it'll print a bit better this way. Time will tell, but my initial use of this filament is positive. ... show more
