I've long wanted better tabletop dust collection, so when I received my new Sawstop PCS beauty at Christmas and found that its blade guard had the necessary dust fitting, I almost immediately decided to get the overarm attachment. It arrived in the manufacturer's heavy duty cardboard box, secured with plastic strapping. Inside, everything was well packed, with a minor exception: one tubing clamp and a couple of L-brackets escaped their bag but they caused/suffered no damage. The two hex wrenches required for assembly are included. Fit and finish is excellent. The steel tubing and aluminum clamps/brackets sport the same glossy black powder-coat finish as the saw itself. The hoses appear to be of ample length for the 52-inch models and the ribbing has no wire in it so you can cut it down as needed using just a pair of shop scissors. I have a 36-inch model and I ended up trimming about 12 inches from the port hose. I think I would have liked a more gradual Y on the port splitter but that would have necessarily increased its length. As it is, it's pretty compact which is a bonus when using the Dust Right tool port adapter, as shown in the accompanying photos. After taking a couple of minutes to orient myself to the proper section for my model, the instructions are brief and fairly clear. I had no missteps during assembly and everything fit without undue persuasion. If you are installing this on a saw with the premium or T-glide fence, you will have four parts left over: two L-brackets and two bolts. Owners of the Contractor model with the standard fence will use these parts to adapt the tubing clamps to their unique fence rails. In use, it works as advertised. My anemic 1-hp dust collector allowed a very light dusting of the table top during test cuts but it is a remarkable improvement. Skim cuts are another story since the blade throws dust out the open front end of the guard faster than my collector can grab it. The guard hose and overarm don't hinder normal operation of either the fence or blade guard. In cases where the guard isn't required, it detaches easily and the arm and hose can be swung aside. Bottom line: nothing worth deducting a star, as far as I'm concerned. I'm looking forward to putting it to work. ... show more

If you try to use it how it's intended, you're going to be disappointed. I put the overarm attatchment on my PCS sawstop and hooked it up to my dust collector, which is rated at 1,250 CFM. It's not a huge dust collector but it's not a baby one either. I switched it on, took the hose off of the blade guard, and felt the suction. And when I say the cheapest and weakest shopvac in the history of the planet had more suction than this thing, I meant it. Luckily I had a backup plan. I took the 4" fitting off my tablesaw and connected my dust collector back to it. Then I wheeled my bosch dust extractor under the extension table and hooked the lower hose directly to that and tested it. A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. If you don't already have a dust extractor, you're going to have to factor in the cost of one of those($300 to $800) range) in with the $300 cost of the overarm attatchment, as well as remembering to cut it on along with your dust collector. Overall I will say I like it, but it took a $600 dust extractor to save it. Otherwise I would be returning it in and instant. ... show more

I think the equivocal reviews you read about this accessory are mostly due to the various vacuum sources people have in their shop. Prior to getting this accessory I had a Festool mini vac close by and would attach the hose directly to the SawStop table top guard/suction apparatus. The Festool hose would insert inside the fitting, it was tight but it worked and the effect was very noticeable. Enough so that I would go to the trouble of hooking up the mini vac routinely. So I hoped that this over table accessory would relieve me of that inconvenience. I have a new Laguna 1 1/2 horse suction unit that has worked well for my purposes but based on other reviews I was skeptical that it had enough suction power to make this accessory work well. In short, it didn't. The suction is barely perceptible at the table top and nothing at all like what I had with the direct minivac connection. This is not necessarily a criticism of this accessory but SawStop is such a superb company that I would have thought they would include application guidelines specifying a certain suction power needed to make this work. I can only state with certainty that 1 1/2 hp is not enough. Is 2 1/2 enough? My philosophy is generally to make a big leap if I'm going to leap so if I replace the Laguna it will be with a 5 hp unit if I can fit it into the garage. If you're thinking of buying this make sure you have adequate suction, and it would be a good idea to scan the reviews and see if others with higher hp units can give us some help. Oh, and this unit will interfere with your outfeed table, depending on how it was designed and placed relative to the saw. I've included a photo to show it can get in the way. It was not what I expected. Did help some but hard to get volume of air to collect fine dust.

    • Works Great on my SawStop
I tried to install this on my SawStop, but found that the earlier version of the saw guard would accept the fitting on the smaller hose. I contacted the Woodcraft where I bought the saw and SawStop is sending me an adapter at no charge. It seems that they have redesigned the guard to accommodate the hose now and made the guard out of a black material where my guard is entirely clear, so SawStop promptly fixed the problem.     • A "Y"adapter would provide a much better split for a better above table collection
The only complaint I have is the supplied 4" fitting for the split is a T at a 90° angle and the suction is very weak at the blade. A "Y"adapter would provide a much better split for a better above table collection.
