My old neghbor comes to visit with her little dog, and he LOVES THIS TOY so much! I bought this so he'd have something to play with when he's over. The dog comes in and specifically looks for this toy, and loves pulling out the little chipmunks. He is squeeker obsessed, and the chipmunks all squeek! Its fun to throw them in different dirrections, and have him attempt to collect them all which he places in a little pile. My 7mo puppy is 40lbs of pure energy. I was looking for something that would hold her attention & keep her from being bored without just gnawing on a bone. This is the perfect stimulation for her! I also like that I don't have to worry about sharp edges anywhere on this toy. I purchased the XL last night & put it together out of her sight. This entailed simply opening the outer package, then pulling a netted bag out of the center of the log; this bag contained six squirrels that I cut out of the bag. There are four offsetting holes in the body of the log, with five if you count the larger hole at the top. I put all of the squirrels back in the log & introduced her to it so that it was more intriguing than just seeing squirrels piled up next to the trunk. She immediately went for it, grabbing one squirrel after another. She first played with them by the head or tail, so she got extra excited when I showed her that the bodies squeaked. They get strewn everywhere as she roots them out, then she sticks her nose in the log & tosses it around, prancing over to me to show that she found all the squirrels. The individual squirrels are also exciting to my puppy, & it's funny to see her play with one then realize there's another in the corner to play with, then the log, then another squirrel she hasn't played with in 2mins, & then another, & so on, ad infinitum. Sometimes, she takes a squirrel & brings it to me, stuffing it in my hand or on my lap so I can toss it to her. After a while, I put them back in the log, & the cycle starts again. I like to leave one or two stuffed in the middle & not poking out of a hole so that she has to work a bit harder to get them out, & she loves it. That means that I love it, since I can get work done & don't have to worry about my fur baby being bored & destructive. Speaking of destruction, my only complaint is that the squirrels aren't exactly durable. Within the first 3mins one of the squirrels lost a tail & its hair on top. Today another one kept its tail, but is also now bald. Given how much my puppy loves this toy, it's not enough for me to deduct a star. I don't know how long the trunk & the rest of the squirrels will hold up, but so far, I'm incredibly pleased. My puppy is too, as it was the first thing she went looking for after our morning routine/to start her playtime. I rarely write reviews, but this is one item that surprised me with how well it works; I readily recommend it to anyone with a fur baby! UPDATE JUNE 2025: More than a year later & these are still going strong! Sure, I've sewn a neck together & searched for a tail to sew back on, but I still have all the squirrels & the log is holding up. These days I'll hide a treat or two in it so the fun lasts longer & she has to root out the squirrels & figure out how to remove it, but she still plays with it on her own frequently! ... show more

**UPDATE** ... almost 3 years after purchasing/posting my original review: My 3 yr old male mini Doxy still absolutely loves these squirrels. However, we are down to only a couple.. and they are mostly missing their tales.. so I'm thinking about reordering this set. I mentioned in a previous, original review, my daughter's female mini Doxy destroyed her tree in no time at all. That became the same case with my dog, as well. However, both of them still love the squeaker squirrels! They prance around with them like they are a prized treasure. I do wish the tree had lasted longer though, folks. Again, I'm glad we got the XL set/squirrels. They were still the perfect size for their small mouths. You can buy a 3 pk of squirrels separate, btw. I feel I should probably lower my rating for the tree not lasting... but the squirrels themselves were very durable, and they sure have enjoyed playing with them! ------------- Original post from 3 years ago: We have bought this item twice. The first time was for my daughter's mini dachshund pup and those squirrels have lasted for years. In fact, she said she still has them after 3 or 4 years. The dog did chew up the tree quite some time ago, even though it was very sturdy. She seems to know precisely how to rip stuffing out of a toy. Has it down to a science. Big, little, expensive, or cheap toys don't stand much of a chance with her. So it is surprising the squirrels have not been destroyed. We recently got our own mini-dachshund puppy (14 weeks old now) and he also loves these squirrels so we bought him this same set. Whether chasing them when we throw them or carrying them around in his mouth, he loves them, too. The tree is its own separate shake, tug of war, chew toy. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept of the hidden toy aspect. So it will likely meet the same fate as the first one we bought. Regardless, we think this toy is definitely worth the money. If nothing else, buy the squirrels separately. They are awesome squeaky, dog toys! Btw, not sure if these come in different sizes...Buy the large ones if you have to select one...You'll get more for your money. Even small breed puppies can enjoy the larger size version. ... show more

My dogs love this toy! The hot summer days they get a little restless since we don’t walk as much so I was looking for a toy that would entertain them. I will say they do stay entertain for a decent amount of time with this toy, they love to run around with the log itself or the squirrels themselves even though it doesn’t take them long to get the squirrels out they still enjoy the activity and love running around with a little squeaky squirrels. My only recommendation would be. I wish the holes were tighter so it would be more difficult for them to remove the squirrels. ... show more

Very nice and well made! My little dog loves the cupcake that is a wide corduroy material and is cushioned with a ruffle around the top! The three candles with their fire tops and squeakers are great too! It is great that I can just put the candle toys into the cupcake to take it all with me!

Super Cute - Our dog drags it from room to room, loves this toy, the squirrels are pretty tough, but ears and tails take a beating. He's had it for just a few days and already chewing a hole the tree trunk. While I like the idea of this and think it’s absolutely adorable and I like that fact that a bunch of squirrels come with it, unfortunately it didn’t take our golden long to start destroying it all. We took away the house because she was starting to eat through that and then the little squirrels lasted a little bit longer but she made sure to destroy those too.
