  • Well Made bag for outings where base is not far
Color: Black
Last summer I hiked to Mermaid's Chair in St. Thomas. It's not a stressful walk except that the blazing sun requires both frequent water stops and a regular refresh of sunscreen. The destination also requires a quick change from hiking boots to water shoes, a light snack, etc. and of course there needs to be a place to carry phones, keys, wallet and the like. Last winter we went skiing, hiking, and exploring in the mountains. Again hydration, also lip balm, a thermos of hot cider, change of socks, and all the little things of life. My hydration pack got a lot of use and finally fell apart during the trip to the islands. I left it behind and have been seeking a replacement. Enter the 18L OutdoorMaster Hydration Pack, which I strongly recommend. Here's why I like it so much: - 18L capacity is not large, but I don't need it to be. For that I have my 30L. This hits that sweet spot of not carrying too much (and no, sweet child, I will not carry your jacket either - I told you that you did not need it and now here you are, so wear it like an albatross and learn from the experience) and having the right options for gear. - A 2L hydration bladder fits snugly inside the rear lining, with a really nice enclosure for the mouthpiece. I've not had that option before and will never accept less in a bag again. - The included rain covering for the bag is a great plus. - The main compartment is large enough for pretty much everything I need with me on a 2-6 hour journey where I want to go light and fast. For a subjective measurement, the base of the internal pocket is just shy of four pickleballs wide. - The top compartment is felted and soft, keeping valuables a little more protected. - The overall construction is sturdy. Stitching feels solid, buckles are not cheap junk, and the straps have a lot of play in them for adjustment. - I really like the orange tac loops on the bag as well, allowing me to clip on anything that fits a Carbiener. Nice little bag for the grab and go. Don't try to make this something it isn't, and you'll be very pleased. ... show more

  • A swing and a miss in my opinion - but it sure looks good
Color: Black
This is a good looking....well, I don't want to call it a backpack because it's too small really - a daypack perhaps. In my opinion it is a good way to cart around a Camelback water bladder - if you're a small person I am a big guy - 73" and 225 pounds, and the lower cinch will barely fit around my waist. Add a heavy coat or even a sweater, and it just will not fit. The photos on the site show a big man with a pair of skis attached and hiking somewhere bold where no man has gone before - it is a dramatic photo, but I would guess he wasn't going anywhere until they unhooked him from that pack. OK - let's talk about some things I liked - the pack looks great and has a lot of pockets and zip ups and places to stick things - the very top has a small zippered pocket that's perfect for a cell phone - its cushioned and big enough for my Galaxy 23. It will easily hold a 2 liter Camelback bladder, with or without the carrying pouch. Then in a cool display of insight, one of the shoulder straps has a small tunnel built in to thread your Camelback hose - and it zips closed to keep things clean - that's a very cool feature. Because the pack did not fit me though, I had to loosen everything up and pull it forward to access the zippered compartment. But for a smaller person, this is a great way to access your Camelback. It has a rain cover built in and attached to a loop in the lower compartment. You never need those things until you need them, and a good rain cover will keep things dry. It has multiple attachment straps and compression straps to add things - small things. Overall I think this is a good water carrier/extra small things carrier, if you are hiking for the day. But this pack was never meant for extended hiking. It has a lot of places to tie things and put things, but if you are going somewhere distant, this will not carry what you need - except for your water - no trouble carrying a water bladder. Finally, this pack is only for a petite or small person. It is not designed for a large person even though "hiking the ski mountain man" is on their page and even as a small person, this is just for the day - and I really don't think you could comfortably attach skis to this pack and travel very far. It's attractive, functional as a water bladder carrier, it has room for some other small things but it is only for small people and I can't recommend it for someone my size. ... show more

  • Excellent Ski/Snowboard Day Backpack
Color: Black
I love skiing and this is a lifesaver. This is pretty much a perfect backpack when skiing or snowboarding. You don’t want to bring a giant backpack with you, but you want something to carry your other gear, water, etc. without being a hassle when skiing/snowboarding. This backpack does just that. It has very well designed pockets. It has one in the back and opens from side to keep documents, money, etc. safely contained. In the front is one large pocket to store whatever you need or don’t need that day. It has two water bottle pockets on the sides. It has one pocket on the bottom that contains the green waterproof cover for the whole backpack. This is really thoughtful to have in the mountains if it’s raining or snowing. The colors of the backpack are some of my favorite - black with orange details. My only minor nitpick is that I personally would have preferred snaps for the larger pocket to make it easier to get in and out of as compared to the straps. Excellent backpack all around from a well known company. Definitely a recommend from me. ... show more
