Merino wool is the main material in these socks, so they're comfortable, long lasting, and durably constructed. My experience with Merino wool is that it is a naturally fine texture and a soft wool. It has always been my first choice for Winter socks. These socks will fit well above your calf area, exactly as this product is pictured, which helps a lot in keeping you warm. I found the size chart for these socks to be correct for me. These socks measure 11 inches from the ankle to the top of the sock. These socks come in an array of colors, but I liked the vibrancy and color and design of the purple socks. And ... well ... these socks ARE made from wool ... so, don't do what I've been doing ... rather, be sure and READ the laundry instructions located on the back side of the packaging. These socks should be machine washed ... and dried in LOW heat. (no wonder my other merino wool socks are now all so TIGHT!) And ... turn them inside out, first. (Ha! Who knew THAT?) Well ... now that I know ... I'll just air dry all of my merino wool socks ... so they don't get any smaller. I did see an "air dry" setting on my dryer ... I'll bet that would work OK, as well. This seller provides a 6 month warranty ... and even provides their contact email address, which is printed on the back side of the zip locked packaging. I always appreciate when Sellers just give me their contact info straight up ... rather than making me jump through the hoops to contact them through Amazon. I also like that the packaging that this Seller uses is reusable/recyclable and presents well for gift giving.

These are nice socks, and fairly warm. Hard to tell about the actual breakdown of the fiber used, but they are soft enough and again, fairly warm. In terms of size, these things are tall. The listing states 'over the calf' and it's not wrong. These things basically go up to my knee. If you're looking for a sock like that, here you go. For a sock that goes up that high, they're again just kind of moderately warm. They're not too thick, which is nice if you're looking for a lighter sock, but if you're looking for something really warm this might fall a little short.

These are great knee high socks that will be good for hiking. One of my biggest issues with socks is they slide down. So far the times I have worn them I haven’t had any issues. They are not too thick but have good cushion. I we hold recommend.

When the weather turns cold my feet waste no time starting to complain. Loudly. So thick socks or doubled pairs (sometimes both) become the fashion around my house. These socks fit in to that scheme nicely. Soft and thick, good rise on the calf. Very satisfactory.

This is an initial review, and will be updated after a ski day. First impression was that the socks fit very snuggly, perhaps too snuggly. There is quite a bit of elasticity to the fabric, and I hope it lasts a long time. The true test, though, is how well it keeps my feet warm on a coldish ski day.
