Geared toward kids, yet anyone can benefit from it. Both the lantern and the headlamp come with preinstalled AA batteries, and CR2032 respectively. There is a spot in the description where it says "not included" but they are, and another that said they are. They are, can confirm. Just pull the little battery saver tab to activate. To access the battery compartment, you will need a tiny Phillips head screwdriver. Flat works too. Both items are well made and durable feeling. I got that impression while unboxing. It just has a good feel, not cheap feeling. My video and pics are taken in a small dark storage room. Not actually producing colors. The HEAD LAMP band is stretchy and adjustable. I was able to slide it onto y large 23.75" head. It is not something all that practical--no way to direct the light like one would with an adult sized head lamp but it is still useful. Good way to keep track of kid in darkness (camping, Halloween, emergency). It imparts a decent amount of direct light. I would even keep this in my car as a little emergency light. I could probably use this as a reading light if I wore it on my neck. Maybe. TO OPERATE: press yellow button on top. THIS could be tricky for some kids and adults. As the pressure point location is directly in the convex center. Cant just press any spot on the yellow surface. Must be directly between eyes. Once that is figured out, then it is super easy. The LANTERN is lightweight, yet robust feeling. Has TWO light options: top flashlight, forward direction. OR a diffuse lower lantern light. I think it lights up well enough for the space around. I am not sure why we would need to give a kid a spotlight (I just imagine little kiddos trying to blind others, This wont do that). This light is perfectly fine for them--in a tent, around their little area in an emergency, as their own bed side flashlight or night light of the sorts. I would use this myself in car, for sitting outside in evening, for light glow while walking around with dogs, or on my own, etc. I carry strong mag lights, but I find this little pack useful. Nice handle. Can be popped off if need be. Good base- wont easily tip over. Can take a drop to the ground, I think. Could hook this to a backpack and have lead adult or older kiddo to light up a path. TO OPERATE: very easy, very intuitive, easy to press single button. Press to turn on upper flashlight, press again to switch it to the lantern. Another press simply turns it off. I see they have an owl option and I love owls. My only choice was a frog. Frogs are cool, but owls are my love. I like this lantern enough to want to buy the owl for myself. I plan to keep the headlamp in my bag, and the lantern will just set out. I figured if the power goes out, it can't hurt to have extra options that don't require me to hold onto it. I can keep this on one of my end tables, and just press the button. Then I can use it to go get other supplies and such. Will make for a good glow, enough to light up area enough to be comfortable to maneuver. ----->>>>>>>In summary: This is a great little set. Fun looking, nice lights, COMES WITH BATTERIES INSTALLED, stretchy headband not limited to child use, good material, good feel, and is just refreshingly NICE product. Not cruddy feeling or looking. This is a really super cute light set for kids. The lantern feels really sturdy and well-made. The headlamp is a little cheaper-feeling. The headlamp light intensity is not super strong, which is good because it's not so bright as to be blinding when the child wearing it looks directly into your face. The direction is not really adjustable. It just points forward, but the light comes out of the frog's 2 eyes so it's super cute. It's enough light to see where you're going or to spot whomever is wearing it from a bit of a distance. There is only one light setting on the headlamp. The lantern is the real winner here It is small and totable with a sturdy handle. It feels overall pretty sturdy and has 2 light settings. Unlike the headlamp, the frog's eyes spotlight is quite bright and turns on with the first press of the button. As second press turns off the spotlight and turns on the lantern portion, which puts out the perfect amount of light for a tent, or a blanket fort :) It's a soft, glowing light and could even be used as a night light. The only drawback in my eyes is that neither piece is rechargeable so having extra batteries on-hand is a must! ... show more

This cute frog lantern and headlamp combo is adorable and surprisingly well made. Feels sturdy and each comes with batteries already installed. Note: the lamp requires a tiny screwdriver to open the battery compartment when the time comes to change the batteries. The lamp has two lighted sections - eyes (bright lamp) and lantern “body” (diffused light). The eye lamps are very bright but the radius of the beam is fairly limited, similar to a flashlight beam. The lamp light is not super bright but bright enough to light up a small area in a tent or on a table. The two light modes cannot be run at the same time. The includes headlamp is decent but your cannot change the angle of the light at all which means wherever the child looks is where the light beam will land. This makes it easy to be blinded - so give kids a lesson on that before strapping it on. The elastic strap on the headlamp is thick, soft and well made and it’s actually big enough to fit an adult but can be adjusted down to the size of a child’s head as well. Kids will have fun playing with this at home or while camping. They will feel special having their own set of lights just like the adults. The set, especially the lamp would also be cute for anyone to use. I think setting it on an outdoor table at night for a little extra light would be a conversation starter for sure - it’s very cute. Would definitely consider purchasing another in the owl pattern. ... show more

Batteries Included?! One of the rare items on the market that actually includes batteries. You will have to unscrew the battery compartment to pull the paper out that's blocking the battery connection on both the lantern and the headlamp. We love that the lantern can either light up with the eyes or the body. The lights are bright compared to other kids light up toys or flashlights. It seems durable and able to withstand some rougher attention. The froggy headlamp lights up with the eyes, but there is no way to aim or adjust the position of the headlamp. So be careful when your little one looks up at you with the headlamp on, those little froggy eyes can blind you with light. ... show more
