Bought one of these for my sister and brother in law for Christmas. They live in Texas. It came in very handy the day I got there when the power went out. Now her friends/neighbors have also bought their own. And now I've bought one for myself. It has such a pleasant glow, not harsh. The light is also dimmable and has a blink setting too! The lantern has been perfect for backpacking. The battery doesn't last terribly long on the brightest setting. I'd estimate that after two to three hours at the brightest setting, you'll notice that the light isn't as bright anymore, but I've found that the lower light setting are plenty bright if you want to save battery. I've been clipping the lantern to the outside of my pack so that it can recharge as I hike. So far, it's been exactly what I need. ... show more

Another long overdue review from me. I've had this for about a year and a half now. I'm not really an outdoorsy person, so I probably haven't ever used it for it's intended, lofty purpose. It's been in my car since the day I opened the package. I have it plugged into one of the USB ports in my Kia, and unplug it when there engine isn't running so it will continue to charge via the solar panel. It took me awhile to figure out that it won't solar charge at all if the USB is plugged in, even if the car isn't on. That's probably explained somewhere, but I either didn't see that fact or simply forgot it. It does take forever to charge this using only sunlight, especially from inside a car with tinted windows. But that's the nature of solar charging with small panels. I bought my first solar device (with a similar sized panel) when I lived in Florida, and even when leaving it outside in the direct, brutal, relentless Florida sun, it took more than 1 day to fully charge. I use my phone a lot when I'm in my car, either for the map functions or for Blu-ray streaming music when I can't tolerate whatever garbage is coming from every station on the radio. When I'm in my car and parked, which is probably more than any rational person should ever do, I can charge my power-hungry phone (or tablet) by jacking it into my PackLight Max to keep my mobile devices going for hours. I've never used the lantern feature although I did test it out to see how it worked. It's very bright at the highest setting and it's ability to adjust the intensity of the light is appreciated. All-in-all, this was a good purchase I can imagine it being extremely useful in the event of a power outage at home. ... show more
