Finally, a mattress that lives up to it’s FIRM description! I’ve tried so many mattresses and was almost ready to splurge on an expensive natural version, but decided to give this one a shot after reading thru the multiple comments that it was indeed firm-very firm. Time will tell if any dipping or hollowing happens. While I’m an average size 5’4”, weight 145, and generally a side-sleeper (most recommend medium comfort level vs firm for this), I prefer to sleep ON TOP of the mattress and not having to lift myself out of a foam-conforming ditch as I’m moving around at night. As a 50-ish yr old woman, this is not a hot-sleeping mattress and has a bit of spring when getting up at night, although I would prefer the sides to stay a bit more rigid when sitting on them. I am likely to add a natural latex topper (firm) just to bring it up the 3” needed to match the height of our other side of the King bed and provide the tiniest amount of comfort to make this perfect for my needs. (Hubby is less picky and likes to sink in his side of the mattress. He is confounded by the number the mattresses we’ve gone through because nothing felt right to me. We finally chose 2x twin xl’s to make it easier to change out my choices, until I found something just right. This one is finally it!!) If you havent heard it before— you can always make a firm mattress softer with less dense additional layering, but you cant really firm up a dipping too-soft mattress by adding anything that wont ultimately also sag, which exacerbates the problem. Opening— was a bit worried, since it was the last Twin XL available at the time, that I might get a return. But, I dont believe that to be the case. It arrived vacuum sealed and immediately sprang to nearly all of the 9” I ordered when slicing through the encased wrap. The creases and corners did their thing to rebound overnite near a warm, sunny window. It was exactly the size I ordered- 9”, Twin XL. Another reason for choosing this company’s mattress.—it was important to me to try to find a product made in the US, for several reasons. I was really suffering with back pain from a too-soft mattress and I just went to Amazon looking for a very firm mattress that could be delivered ASAP. I sort of figured that you get what you pay for but while this was not outrageously expensive it seems to be very solid quality. My back pain vanished overnight. It is as promised very firm, which I love. No real smell after it was first unpacked and had a bit of time to expand, no issues so far (but it's only been a month so I can't speak to its longivity.) This is definitely an extra firm mattress. It is like sleeping on the floor so I got a 2 inch memory foam topper and it is now perfect. Still very firm w just the right amount of give. Well I wanted a "FIRM" mattress and by god, that's what I got. Didn't sleep much the first night because of the constant tossing and turning due to the pressure points of my hips & shoulders. Strangely enough, after getting up I noticed less hip discomfort sitting and walking. I am on disability because of my hips. Maybe I'll order a memory foam topper to soften those pressure points. Again, I ordered it because of the product reviews claims of truly being a firm mattress. Would have loved it in my younger days. ... show more

My most comfortable sleep is on our oak floor using the dog for my pillow. I do like a firm mattress. I have a 3/4” sheet of plywood under my regular mattress and it makes it ok. If I sleep on a hotel or cruise mattress I ache and can hardly get up from them. This was one of the few shippable mattresses that had metal springs so I bought it. I have only slept on it 2 nights but it’s GREAT ! I read the reviews and many said “it’s like sleeping on a rock”. If sleeping on a rock is not for you don’t buy it.
