Works well

  • Yes, it is small, read the listing
Size: 1kg
My first impressions of this mold (I bought the 1kg one) are great. It's very smooth and well-machined, so no need to worry about surface finish on the bars you're casting. A lot of people are complaining that the mold is smaller than expected. This is because the manufacturer bases the weight capacity on the density of gold. The 1kg mold is about 4"x2"x1" outside and 3.5"x1.5"x0.75" inside. That's about right for 1kg of gold. The volume of the 1kg mold is 63.9095 cm³. Copper weighs 8.96g/cm³. 8.96 x 63 = 564.48g. That's about 1.25 pounds. If I do the same math for gold (19.3g/cm³), you get about 1.2 kg. Their math multiplies the volume by 0.9 to account for the rounded corners, which comes out to 1.1kg. It will also hold: 155g (0.34 lb) Al 652g (1.44 lb) Pb 603g (1.33 lb) Ag 420g (nice, 0.93 lb) Sn ~500g (1.1 lb) brass In more practical terms, the mold is about the size of a large bar of soap, but narrower. For the other Americans out there, it's about the size of a Twinkie, but a little wider. ... show more

Great molds for one pound copper ingots

  • Works very well.
Size: 2kg
This is very simple and works great. I've poured aluminum and brass into it and both metals dropped right out after cooling. Even though there's no draft on the sides (walls are vertical), the metal shrinks as it cools after solidifying pulling away from the walls. The graphite it's made of has good thermal conductivity so it pulls heat quickly from the freshly poured metal (good for reducing corrosion / keeping shine), but heating itself VERY hot in the process. Don't be too quick to touch it without gloves! The graphite is perfectly happy being hot and cold and changing temperature quickly. The cast size is nice for remelting in my 3Kg crucible (and probably smaller sizes too). ... show more

  • I got mold
Size: 9.5kg
These molds are well machined from graphite and they leave an awesome finish on the ingots. I bought two and I will buy more!

  • The Item is not the size advertised in the description.
Size: 2kg
It actually measures : Outside, 6.25 X 2.00 X 1.50 tall. Inside, 5.50 X 1.35 X 1.20 deep. Dimensions are in inches and are + or - 1/32 . I am not sure what weight it will hold, but that will depend on the material, i.e. Lead is way heavier than Aluminum. It appears to be a nice well made dense machined graphite mold, except it has no draft. It may not release properly. It has thick enough walls I could add a couple degrees of draft if it survives my first pour. ... show more

  • Great machine work for graphite!
Size: 2pcs 1kg
These molds are perfect for casting a variety of metals into ingots for easy storage. They are machined well and the graphite is rigid and pure! You can easily carve your own logo into them or other desired markings!
