Description

Riders looking for a low-profile lumbar pack with integrated hydration need look no further than the Seral 4. This slim waistpack features a 1.5-liter bladder with our updated high-strength magnetic coupling for improved hose management even in rough terrain. The Seral 4 has enough storage capacity for ride essentials, such as a spare tube, CO2 and multi-tool and, of course, snacks. Our bike-specific, angled hipbelt and compression straps provide stability and comfort by keeping the pack close to your body. This is created by a breathable airmesh wrap hipbelt that contours over the hipbone, Osprey's ErgoPull cross-body waist strap closure system that pulls the pack into the lumbar and side compression straps that pull the load close to your body, providing the most comfortable, secure and stable carry. Designed for riders who require hydration or gear storage while riding, but prefer the off-the- back carry and minimalism provided by lumbar packs. Constructed with PFC-free recycled bluesign®-approved nylon; a sustainable build that's tough and durable to endure years of riding.

  • Great pack for shorter day rides
Color: Black
I just received the Seral 4 and have been out on 1 ride of about 2 hours with it. The pack is a perfect fit for a shorter day ride like this. The pack fit comfortably in my lumbar area with minimal jiggling around with my pedal stroke. The ride included both extended climbs and high speed, technical descents, and through it all I found the pack comfortable and unobtrusive. The 1.5L bladder is the perfect size for a 1 to 3 hour ride when paired with a 1L bottle on your bike's frame. With the bladder full the pack has room for your phone, a couple of snacks and maybe a rain jacket if it's a small one. I keep my spare tube and tools in a bag under my saddle, so I don't need to add these to the pack. If you like to keep these in your pack things are going to get tight. And for an all day ride where you need to carry some clothes (sleeves, rain jacket, leggings) and more than 2.5L of water, this bag is going to come up short. I am very happy to be switching from a back pack to a lumbar pack (ok, fanny pack) for mountain biking. I've always hated having my back covered creating that big sweat stain all the way down my back and reducing my cooling capacity. The lumbar pack reduces the footprint of the bag significantly, and the Osprey airscape backpanel improves cooling and reduces the static sweat spot even more. I found that feature fantastic! I'd like to address a few negatives I picked up from other reviews that I found to be non-issues. The magnet is mentioned in multiple reviews as insufficient. I believe this is a design flaw that has been addressed. The product literature mentions a new, stronger magnet, and I did not have an issue with my hose and bite valve staying attached even though I haven't trimmed down the extra length on the hose, yet. Granted, I was not sending it off of 4-foot ledges, so I can't say that it will stay put through anything, but it was certainly sufficient for my average ride. A supplementary plastic clip might be a good idea for a day of double blacks in Moab. Other reviews have mentioned the hose not being detachable as a drawback. This, also, is not an issue the way the pack is designed. The hose exits the pack at the end of the pack's zipper, not through a dedicated hole, so when the pack is unzipped the bladder and hose can be removed from the pack as a unit without having to thread the hose through an opening in the pack. Easy! (And people who argue that a removable hose is easier to drain and clean don't understand the workings of that quick connect valve used to detach the hose. They make the hose almost impossible to clean when detached.) Another issue that has been raised, but I found inaccurate is that when full the bladder does not fit in the pack. I filled the bladder full, and it fit in the pack just fine. It was a tight fit, and it leaves less room in the pack for other items, but it fits. I still got my phone and a couple of Cliff Bars in the bag along with the 1.5L of water and still had room for for another item or two if needed. Too summarize, this is a great pack for half day rides or less, but if you're heading out to the desert for the day you better bring something bigger. It was wonderful to get the pack off my entire back and limit the coverage to just the small of my back. The pack sat comfortably on my lumbar area and I did not find it at all obtrusive or distracting. I am a roadie at heart and am used to riding with two bottles on my bike and snacks and clothing in the pockets of my jersey, so I am beyond thrilled to get the hydration pack off my back and down on my rump for mountain biking! As a side note, I originally received the Osprey Savu 5 as a fathers' day gift, and traded it in for this Seral 4. The Savu 5 is a lumbar pack that rather than incorporating a bladder has loops for carrying 2 water bottles; one on each hip. I tried this out and found having bottles resting on what amounted to the top of each butt cheek very distracting. The bottles jostled up and down with each pedal stroke while climbing and bounced on my hips with each bump while descending. Having the bladder of the Seral centered in the middle of my lumbar, cinched tight with the waist belt was much more comfortable. ... show more

  • Good Product - LOUSY DELIVERY!
Color: Orange Sunset
As usual Osprey delivers a great product. Size is perfect for my gravel bike rides. BUT - I don't have confidence in Amazon Prime--took them 11 days to deliver my product--even though when I placed the order it stated 2 days! I was ready for a 3 - 5 day delivery. The other orders I placed in October took 3, 4, 7, and 11 day from order acceptance to delivery. What a waste with Prime! Gonna cancel and go with other venders who can get me the product when I need it=-not what Amazon claims and don't deliver! ... show more

  • Kinda basic but well built and comfortable
Color: Dustmoss Green
Decent hip pack. The custom hydrapak reservoir is nice, might be a little hard to clean. Inside it has a side pouch for the reservoir and a tiny zip pocket for keys/money/cc. There's a little room for other things, but not much, especially if the reservoir is full. I wasn't able to fit my mini bike pump in it, but I've seen smaller ones that I think would fit. I ride MTB and the magnetic valve holder isn't strong enough to resist being knocked loose when bumped, or when you have big hard landings. A second magnetic clip or a bigger one is needed, or maybe a retractable badge holder The belt and pads are comfortable and easy to adjust. The material is durable and by observation I think the water resistance is probably pretty good, but I haven't tested it. There's a larger version (more liters of main pack volume) that has extra pouches on the sides that I wish this one had. Would I buy it again? Yeah, I think so. I'm cheap so I got the best value I could get and I knew the tradeoffs. Just be aware of the limitations and if they don't bother you, you'll have a good pack on your hips. ... show more

  • Easy to use
Color: Black
My son said its way better then the full back pack of water on his bike rides. And most of his rides are 20 miles so a bigger water bladder isnt needed

  • Perfect for short hikes
Color: Dustmoss Green
I took this pack on a few short hikes while in Colorado and it was perfect! Good amount of water, enough room for a couple snacks, my phone, a disposable camera, and a couple of other essentials. The only thing that kept bothering me was the magnet that holds the water tube to the waist, if bumped the water tube will fall off easily. ... show more

  • Nice bike bag
Color: Black
Like it, well design, easy to wear. The water tube stay well in place with the magnet.

  • Poorly designed
Color: Orange Sunset
While I appreciate the pack itself, the hydration bladder doesn't fit well, the clip cannot be used when the bladder is full, and the bite valve is easily dislodged.

  • Hose magnet is pretty pointless
Color: Orange Sunset
Before taking this for a ride or even filling it with water, I put the empty pack around my waist, clicked the hose into the magnet, and began to jump around. On jump #3, the hose fell off my waist. I can only imagine disastrous that would be if I were actually mountain biking.
