  • Great performance for the value
Size: Dual 8 in
Previously I had a set of Wavecrest HVL1 and a BIC F12 Sub with a Denon S510 receiver. It served my well and then I decided to upgrade my main speakers to Vanatoo T0 which is very clean sounding, however the BICF12 seem to have stuck out in the bass section. Therefore I decided to upgrade my subwoofer and decided to try my luck with the OSD Dual X8. I'm happy to say that I'm very happy with my decision as I was planning to either purchase a SVS or Rythmik which would of costed me 2x or more money. Comparing this sub with F12, F12 would have more SPL but the bass isn't as articulate or defined as the X8. The X8 also has more thumpy bass which kind of shakes the floor and you can feel it. I would say the major take away between X8 and F12 is that X8 sacrafice the low ends but gains clean/ thumpy bass which the F12 is more SPL but very cluttery sound. X8 is musical and F12 is home theater. I'm mainly a musical person so this suited me very well. As an additinal bonus, the X8 looks very stylish with the paint job and very small as well which will blend very well with any environment. ... show more

  • Great little sub!
Size: Dual 8 in
I bought this OSD Audio Nero Dual X8 to add to a secondary, 2 channel audio system that's in a front room of my house and it really did the trick. I have multiple audio systems, several 12" subs, tube amps, etc. so didn't expect adding an 8" sub in the front room was going to be earth shaking - but that wasn't my goal either. The system is a "Zone 2" to my larger audio system and is only a two-channel system to watch occasional TV and play music throughout the house via Zone 2 from the main system. I have a decent amp and two bookshelf speakers in this front room and really wanted to just "bump" the LFE signal a bit for TV and low-level music when I'm at my dining table and to fill the house with more even sound. I have multiple 12" subs in my main audio room, so I knew I wasn't going to get chest thumping low end from an 8" sub - but this little Nero really filled the gap well where I needed it! I hooked it up, adjusted the crossover, set my AVR/AMP accordingly - AND used an SPL meter to dial all three speakers in (including the Nero) and frankly it sounds really nice. I play music at fairly low levels in this front room but when I step into my office (an adjacent room) I can still sense the bass frequencies well. I do wish this little bugger had an actual LFE input and crossover by-pass (which I could have sworn it had when I looked at it on Amazon the first time) but all in all it works well when set up properly and for the price point I suppose it is what it is. The over-all build quality is good, and it has an exceptionally small footprint which may be attractive to you if you have a small living space. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a 5.1+surround system and for movie watching (always go bigger if you can) but if you listen at low levels in a small room then maybe it'd work well for you there. ... show more

  • For Two Channel Stereo
Size: Dual 8 in
I needed a subwoofer for my Q Acoustics 3050 to fill in some of the bass holes. The 3050s sound really good but on some older recordings the bass can be weak. I did not want a large subwoofer because I'm not watching movies with it and I don't like over bloated non-intended bass. This OSD sounds pretty darn good. Exactly what I was looking for. With a forward facing active speaker and the down facing passive radiator it fills the room nicely. I picked up a 12x12 tile at the hardware store and placed it underneath the sub because I have carpet. Not that it doesn't work with carpet but it does tend to reflect better off of a piece of tile. It cost me 59 cents. 😀. I'm using a small D-class S.M.S.L. amp with a sub out. Easy to set up and tune the bass. Auto on/off works well. The high gloss black makes it look expensive. The feel and quality is exceptional. Easy to dial in. The opening of Diana Krall's All or Nothing At All from the album Love Scenes sounded good before but with this sub it comes alive. Ignore some of the bad Photoshop photos in the ad. This is very small. If you're looking for non-bloated bass then this may be what you're looking for. It's not a REL but in a bad economy it's perfect. Looking for a sale so I can get another one. UPDATE: There were no sales but I picked up another one anyway. Now the bass really sounds great and fills the room out better than before. Two good sounding powered subwoofers for 400 bucks is a pretty good deal. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • I really wanted to like this subwoofer
Size: Dual 8 in
I really wanted to like this subwoofer. The looks and price were outstanding. Unfortunately after receiving I quickly hooked it up to my main system, hoping to add additional bass to my large room that already has a dual 12" Mirage subwoofer. After making some adjustments I fired up Pacific Rim 3D. I initially couldn't hear anything. I made a few more adjustments and turned the volume all the way up. Still basically nothing. I checked the connection, then swapped it out in place of my Mirage subwoofer. I could see the driver moving at max volume but couldn't hear or feel anything. I took it to my second system which is a 5.1 sub sat system. Replacing it with my Definitive Technology Pro sub 8 and still same results. It is possible it got damaged it transit but I can't say for sure. I really have nothing to compare it to but the three subwoofers I currently own. The Definitive single 8" pro sub rocks so hard compared to this one. I only wish it sounded as good as it looked. I sent it back, still unsure if it was damaged or if it just wasn't meant to perform at the level I was used to with other subs of similar size. I had it hooked up to a Pioneer 1323k 7.2 receiver as well as a Marantz SR7000. Update: I'm really glad other reviewers are noticing the same issues I had with this sub. I knew there was something wrong with it. Maybe OSD will spend more time on quality control and send out units that perform as they should. ... show more

  • Did not work for me--at all.
Size: Dual 8 in
Spent hours trying to get something more than a 60Hz hum out of my PS88. I was aware that setup with my amp/pre-amp was important, but nothing I tried resulted in a musical signal coming out this speaker. (The sub was an open-box item and listed as, "tested.") I was able to speak with OSD support (a positive) before returning, as well as after they had checked it out. I might have ordered a replacement if the sub was found defective. But support said it checked out OK (and their setup was the same as mine.) I requested money back and that is still in the works. I then ordered a Kanto 8 which came in 2 days. Same setup as the PS88. Took 5 min to get it working. No hum only bass... 110Hz and below. ... show more

  • it is quicker than the average shipping time compared to the local Australia Post which is pretty embarrassing. Regardless
Size: Dual 8 in
This item arrived earlier than expected and earlier than the estimated delivery date using Amazon in combination with my freight forwarder who shipped it to Australia. That means, it is quicker than the average shipping time compared to the local Australia Post which is pretty embarrassing. Regardless, as a customer I am extremely impressed with the very quick service. This item arrived safely and working as intended. I do not have a hardcore set up. In fact I came from using cheap Logitech X-540s coupled with a PCI XFi titanium cards back in the day. And recently upgraded a modern onboard sound from my X99 motherboard which a very old and still functioning Logitech Z2300. I am now connecting my PC to a TEAC AI-101DA DAC/Amp which have a small pair of LS-101s which sound clear however missing everything low end. -- TLDR -- After much research, for a desktop set up, I wanted one that can use 240V (AU standards) and an 8" sub. I had assumed that a 10" will be far too big for an office set up. Not only does the PS88 meet my requirements quite nicely it has now made the pair of LS-101s quite out of place, in a good way. Not so good for me since I'll be in the hunt for a better matching pair of bookshelf speakers. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about the PS88s. It has gone beyond my expectations for such an incredibly small unit. It's not boomy, it's got a nice precise response, and yet powerful for it's size. The build quality is absolutely beautiful, I love the polished quality. It has knob adjustments for both phase and frequency. It also came with a nice cloth cover and a very comprehensive and informative manual. I am connecting this using 2x RCAs on both left and right and using a Y adapter on the other end to my AI-101DA DAC/Amp. I'm not sure if I should just connect a single RCA to the left output as noted in the manual. ... show more

  • Good little sub, but........
Size: Dual 8 in
Good little sub, well built, quality construction, great price, and fantastic high piano gloss finish, but the frequency response numbers are not accurate. This little sub does not get near 20Hz in the audible range. A more realistic number might be +/- 3 to 6db at 40Hz. Anything below that is not really usable. Nearfield listening with wall reinforcement could help. The biggest issue I had though was it would walk at medium to loud volumes. It is not balanced and will move and vibrate quite significantly on hard floors. Customer service was good and they did grant me a full refund. Accurate real world specs can only help what seems to be a well made product. ... show more

  • Great value in a very musical little Sub Great value in a very musical little Sub
Size: Dual 8 in
I'm a former high-end audio reviewer (my name still appears on a notable publication's masthead) and I have Wharfedale Achromatic WA-T8 towers as the front speakers in my bedroom home theater system (an all Wharfedale speaker system). The Wharfedale's look and sound great, but given their size, they are designed to use a subwoofer for the bottom end. I decided to balance the in room bass response by getting two small subs to run in stereo with the T-8's in addition to my Von Schweikert Tower of Power main sub. The PS88 match the gloss black T-8's perfectly. Their appearance far exceeds the $150 I paid for each. My hat is off to OSD for producing such a gorgeous little Sub. Of course appearance alone does not a good Subwoofer make. I am pleased to report that the PS88's sound nearly as good as they look. There isn't any usable bass below ~35Hz, but for music, the sweet spot for bass response is centered around the 40-100Hz range. In this range, these little guys sound great. I'm getting tight, tuneful bass that is very satisfying. I would call their bass "agile" - it gets on and off the note without noticeable bloat or overhang. When I used my main sub for everything below 80Hz, I was getting some of the dreaded "one note bass." That problem is completely gone with the crossover changed to 40Hz and the PS88's handling the bass from there up. Movie sound tracks sound much better too-- tight, tuneful bass sounds good on everything. I use Audyssey for room correction and with the Von Shweikert TOP being flat to 20Hz and now having in essence three subwoofers, my bass room response curves are amazingly smooth from 20 to 100Hz. In my application, I don't think there is any other sub, price considered, that would meet my needs, both aesthetic and musical, better than the PS88. If you know the PS88's limitations and can afford to use them in a supporting role, I'm certain you will be a happy camper just like me. If your budget is tight and you have limited space, I can still recommend the PS88 for solo duty. I doubt you will find more than a rare few subs in the under $200 category that can hold a candle to them. ... show more
