- The Ortofon tracking force gauge is a simple budget tool for turntables that is used to determine the stylus tracking force.
- The tracking force is the downward pressure that is applied by the weight of the tonearm through the cartridge stylus and onto the vinyl record. It is important to set the proper tracking force in order to maximize the playback performance and to reduce the risk of mistracking or causing excessive record wear.
- Check for the manufacturers recommended settings for your stylus tracking force. The Ortofon tracking force gauge tool is a small plastic pivot type scale that will accurately measure tracking force between 1.25 g and 4 g.
- The Ortofon stylus force gauge is simple to use

Hard to go wrong with laws of physics
A simple yet very specialized little tool for a very specific purpose, it's hard to go wrong here. It uses a fulcrum to balance the load of the arm/stylus downward pressure and gives a simple analog readout. No calibration, no batteries, simple and to the point.

Does what it is designed to do and does not rely on batteries!
It's a bit fiddly to use, but works well. Some instructions would have made things easier. It's well made and I would definitely recommend it.

Ortofon Stylus Pressure Gauge: A Must-Have Tool for Vinyl Enthusiasts
As a vinyl collector and audiophile, I wanted to ensure ideal sound quality and reduce wear on my records and stylus. After extensive research, I came across the Ortofon Stylus Pressure Gauge and decided to try it. I am thrilled to report that I am thoroughly impressed with this product. The Gauge is a high-quality analog tool that allows for precise measurement of the amount of pressure the stylus exerts on the record. This ensures optimal sound quality and reduces wear on the stylus and the record. It is straightforward and utilizes a built-in spirit level for easy alignment. The gauge measures stylus pressure in grams, which is a standard measurement in the industry. I really like that it does not require batteries or calibration. I've used digital scales, and I can attest to how easily they can become uncalibrated. The Ortofon Stylus Pressure Gauge eliminates this concern. Another plus is that the Ortofon Stylus Pressure Gauge can be used with various cartridges, making it a versatile tool for any vinyl enthusiast. The construction is durable, and I can see it lasting for years. The only downside is that the spirit level is not attached and I could see the two pieces easily becoming separated and rendered useless if one of the pieces is lost. It is a high-quality, precise, and easy-to-use tool that will help prolong the life of your records and stylus. Plus, it's an analog tool that utilizes a level, which eliminates the need for batteries and calibration. It may not be as widely available as other options, but the relatively reasonable cost compared to its quality and features makes it an excellent investment. I would give this product a 4-star rating and purchase it again. Disclaimer: The above review was generated by ChatGPT, with key details about the product and my experience entered. Love it
Does what it needs to do. Only takes a few seconds to set and you can trust it to adjust your tonearm weight to near perfect results every time

A very easy scale to measure tracking force.
A very easy scale to measure tracking force. Almost too simple, but, works well.

It functions.
For some reason "Cracker Jack" prize came to mind when I opened the box. It's a little plastic "teeter-totter" with increments printed on it. It does function and better than no scale.

Low tech
Perfect for what I needed, low tech old-school stylis scale. Didn't want a digital version that would give me 10 different readings.

Get the best sound and protect your albums
Whether you're dusting off an old turntable or exploring vinyl for the first time, this is a must. To get the best sound without wearing out albums, the tracking force on a stylus/cartridge must be correct. Consult cartridge manufacturer suggested weight, adjust tonearm weight and use the Ortofon to achieve the perfect balance. Basic but very effective.
