To apply, hold sprayer 12 inches from the surface and apply in a 4-inch band for indoor applications or a 12-inch band for outdoor perimeter applications, spraying until the surface is slightly wet but not soaking. My little house sits above an unfished dirt basement where spider crickets were thriving and living their best life. If they'd stayed down there we could have lived all copacetic but unfortunately they began invading my house, coming up through the air vents in the floors. It was like something out of a horror movie. Every night beginning around 9:30 they'd creep up into my bedroom, crawl up the curtains, and often make their way into my bed. Pure nightmare fuel. I'd easily kill 8-10 of them every night in my bedroom alone. I used this Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier in conjunction with Niban Granular Insect Bait (also purchased here on Amazon). Both have great reviews and I was desperate to eradicate the spider crickets ASAP. I applied the insect barrier liberally in the basement and sprayed around the air vents in my house. I also sprinkled the insect bait in the basement, around the perimeter of my house, and put out paper plates of it inside on the floor near the vents. The insect barrier had no strong scent that I could detect. The sprayer stopped working with about half the container left but I took to just sloshing it on the basement walls. It worked remarkably fast. The second night there were maybe 4 cricket invaders, the third night maybe 2. Then none. Over a month later now and I haven't seen a single spider cricket. I can finally go to bed without having to look over my shoulder (literally, sometimes I'd look over and these little buggers would be chilling right next to me) and I don't have to watch where I'm stepping for fear of squishing one under foot. The peace of mind is priceless. An added bonus is that this (and/or the Niban Granular Insect Bait) is killing other creepy crawlies like centipedes which I detest even more than spider crickets. After trying every bug spray on the market, even using professional pest control men, the cockroaches in my kitchen kept coming back. That is, until I started using this stuff. I thoroughly sprayed the entire perimeter of my kitchen, and instantly the infestation stopped. I used to catch bunches of them scurrying around when I surprised them late at night, but no more. Ortho Home Defense does help, but if you happen to live in an apartment, where there are neighbors connected to your building, they have them too! So, even if you get rid of some, they keep coming back, or never entirely gone, because they come from next door. Which is awful, I KNOW! I especially have a problem in and near the top of my kitchen sink. I do spray the sink and surrounding areas, but everytime you run the water, you are rinsing it away...so if this happens to you, please re-spray that area. I live in a very small apartment and I went through a gallon in a month! I'm still seeing them!! Yes, I am moving in a couple of months. I believe some places are beyond hope. They may be years old, like this place. I'm talking 50+ years old! So, it has years of getting these disgusting house guests. They get inside he walls. The only remedy is to move and they need to knock this whole place down! This is the second place in the 45 years I've live here, in Las Vegas and believe it or not the other place was worse. We moved out pretty quick and shortly later, they did knock that whole place down. It was a huge complex. It covered 2-3 blocks of a city street! Not too far from the Las Vegas Strip. I'm not saying that all places here are like that. Only two in 45 yrs. I have moved several times for various reasons. Most of the other, "newer" places didn't have ANY! I think the age of the place has alot to do with it. But, like another review said, you must ALWAYS keep your place as clean as humanly possible! No crumbs!!! And, if you do have any kind of roach or bug problem, you can use more than one insecticide at a time. To be safe, make sure you read the label and Google if it's safe for pets, (if you have one) and that it can be used with other insecticides. Most of them can. I don't think a professional place is any better than what you can do yourself. Just my opinion. Because you know where you see them more. You know exactly where to spray. A professional bug guy, just walks around and sprays here and there for about 3 minutes, and he's gone. You need to spray the baseboards! All the baseboards. Most of them come in through there. And, they DO come up from drains! I've seen it! That's why I'm getting them in my sink. They say if you have that problem, to pour vinegar and then baking soda down your sink often. Ar least 2 cups of each! I also found that if I ran out of insecticide to spray alot of vinegar around those areas where you see them. It doesn't kill them, but they avoid the smell. So, I don't know if you want to do that, but it helps me to NOT see them. And, hopefully that may only be necessary for a day or two until you get to the store. Another remedy is, to mix equal parts of white sugar and baking soda and sprinkle around the infested area, because they are attracted to the sugar, but the baking soda will kill them!!! Maybe not immediately, but shortly after. I haven't tried this. I hope I helped ar least one person, if anyone read this all the way through.... ... show more
