I needed to change out a coolant flange that had cracked in my VW Golf GTI and I saw someone using one of these in an online tutorial so I puchased one to make the job easier. Let me tell you, the engine bay in that GTI was cramped and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the job done if I didn't this hose clamp tool. The tool was easy to use and locked the hose clamp into the open position while I pry the coolant hose off the flange I had to replace. If you're having trouble getting the tool to click into the next notch, try adjusting the nut to loosen up the cable to adapt to the size of hose clamp you're working on. ... show more

In general you need one of these in your toolbox if you do any automotive work. This one has been a lifesaver. It’s an inexpensive version and works. If you plan to use frequently, I’d get one that’s a bit heavier duty.

This tool was very helpful to release hard to reach hose clamps on my car. Not the best quality locking mechanism though. The locking teeth are not made of hardened steel and after may uses the teeth are worn and no longer able to lock the tool in place during use.
