  • Versatile light duty transfer pump
I got this pump to mount on a 55 gallon drum I use for diesel fuel for my tractor. It is easy to assemble, and transfers fluid (diesel, in my case) quite well with a minimum amount of rotating the handle to prime it. It is made of fiber reinforced plastic, so there is no corrosion issue however it does flex a bit when you're cranking the pump handle. The draw tube is plenty long enough for a 55 gallon barrel like I am using, and the outlet is equipped with barbs to allow you to mount a hose easily. I did use a hose clamp to make sure the piece of hose I used was secure, but I don't think it's really necessary. It's easy to assemble, and to break down if you won't be keeping it on a barrel. Functionality is really good for what it is, and as long as you don't really bear down on it the durability should be good. I would say it is a decent pump at its price point. ... show more

  • Trash Can? Drum? Doesn’t Matter—It Pumps—Rainwater meets its ride
I’m setting up a water harvesting system at home and ordered the Orion Motor Tech drum pump to use with two 55-gallon plastic water drums I bought for the job. While I don’t have a gutter runoff system installed yet, I’ve been using two 25-gallon trash cans to catch roof runoff—and thanks to this year’s rains, they’ve stayed full. I’ve been using that water to keep my plants happy. The Orion pump fits the opening of my 55-gallon drum well. It’s not designed to stand stable in wide-mouth trash cans, but I tested it anyway and it pumped water seamlessly. I’ll likely use it to transfer water from the trash cans to the drums, using a wood plank with a drilled hole to hold the suction tubes steady. The pump is made of durable polypropylene and comes with three telescoping suction tubes (up to 35.4 inches), plus a spout and crank that bring the full height to 50 inches. The kit includes the hand pump, spout, bung adapter, filter, thread seal tape, and instructions. Setup was easy. While I’ll only be using it for rainwater, the product claims it can handle various chemical solutions and water-based fluids—just not gasoline or anything thick. ... show more

  • All plastic, not terrible, but not worth the money in my opinion
Eh, it's alright. I wasn't expecting the entire thing to be plastic, though. Seems like a somewhat steep price for all-plastic construction. It's PA66-GF nylon, so it's somewhat durable, but you can't leave this outside in the sun. Well you could, but you'll end up with a deteriorated pump in no time. You also shouldn't use this with anything that might have debris in it... if that debris ends up carving out little spaces in the pump internals... it's going to lose power and eventually stop being useful. The assembly was annoying. Why do I need to attach the handle? The box was plenty big enough to pre-attach it. Or make it permanent. It'd feel more sturdy that way, anyway. As it is, it feels rather flimsy, frankly. You can't pump any liquid corrosive to PA66 with this. No gasoline, kerosene, etc. Bleach and strong acids are out too. So... it has its uses but they are somewhat limited for my case. If this was less expensive, I wouldn't be as whiny about it, but it's not really that cheap, relatively speaking. Not for plastic. Would I buy this again? No. I'd buy a cheaper plastic one, or spend just a tad more money on a metal construction (at least internal). ... show more

  • Overall good pump
I am impressed by the material this pump is made out of. The plastic is very thick and sturdy. The 3 suction tubes give you different height options for different sized containers. I attached this to a 30 gallon plastic barrel that my water softener discharges into to use the "salt" water as weed killer. It pumps fairly quickly to fill my 4 gallon sprayer. The only negative thing about this pump is how the handle attaches. The pump stem has a hole in it and the bolt on the handle tightens down to secure the handle. The hole is larger than the bolt and it wobbles excessively and makes it hard to turn sometimes. I will have to drill out the stem and through bolt the handle on at some point. That loses a star from me if I have to modify a product to make it work. For the price point though, it is much cheaper than the ones from the big box stores. ... show more

  • Transfers fluids fairly quickly, pump is very robust.
I like this pump so I'll just list a few points: 1. Robust build, pump is very solidly made. 2. Pipes are sturdy and strong 3. Bung adapter thumb screw has a nice metal wrap that tightens against the pipe rather than the screw digging in. I like that, it's a nice touch and shows thoughtful manufacture. 4. For a manual pump this thing moves liquid fairly fast with a good flow rate. It could be drill driven with a large enough chuck (5/8" minimum). 5. Fairly easy to put together other than the fact that all the threads have fine pitch. This can make them hard to align and start correctly. Coarse threads would have worked better in my opinion. Still not bad though. 6. It's a good barrel pump, bucket pump, tank pump that works very well. 7. Great value for the quality in my honest opinion. I'm really happy with this order and I can recommend this barrel pump. ... show more

  • Solid Pump for the Garage
I picked up the Orion Motor Tech 55 Gallon Drum Pump for my garage, and it’s been a great buy. For being made of plastic, it’s surprisingly well-built and feels sturdy in hand. The rotary action works smooth, and it moves fluids without much effort. I’ve used it on a drum setup, and it handles water-based fluids without issue — no leaks, no slipping. It’s lightweight, easy to mount, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. For the price, this pump is a reliable option if you need to transfer fluids from drums in a garage or shop setting. Simple, effective, and saves me from trying to wrestle with heavy drums. ... show more

  • Versatile hand pump
For all those times we lose power, this is a great backup device. It comes detachable so its easy to store, and its easy to put together. The long fill tube means it makes it to the bottom of a 55 gallon drum, and the rotating (vs pumping up and down) handle means its easy to get a good pressure going and push some real water out. Easy to break down when its not needed and assemble when it is, I definitely like this. ... show more
