  • Great Amp!
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
Excellent amp serves the exact purpose I bought it for. I wanted good vibrant sound to run 4 door speakers and 1 10 inch sub. It works perfectly for my needs provides clean and loud high, low, and mids. This is a perfect amp for clear sound and plenty of low end all packed into 1 amp. I give it 5 stars as it does exactly what I need it to do. ... show more

  • Good 5 channel option, wish sub channel had more
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
Seems like a good all around amp for a whole car system. Has enough power for the four full range channels, kind of disappointed in the low frequency channel though. If you aren’t into a lot of bass but want decent lows from a subwoofer this amp should be good for you. I tend to enjoy a lot of bass so I find it lacking. I did have my sun running on a 500 watt jl audio amp that was only slightly better and interfered with radio reception and the key fob in my car. This has no interference and doesn’t put any out either. It’s not the Orion beasts from back in the day but for entry level it’s not bad. I’ve built many systems and took this option for my car this time due to power consumption limits and don’t want to upgrade to a second battery or bigger alternator. I I have this going to 2 3-way Orion cobalt 61/2” door speakers, 2 Orion cobalt 51/2” mid drivers and two nvx 3.5” tweeters. It runs all those quite well and it can get plenty loud to ruin your hearing in the car. Sub channel is running an 8” massive audio 500 RMS sub in a custom bass tube. If I play something like bassnectar it slams and is amazing for the price. I find it lacks that kick for non bass heavy music but it’s enough to fill in the low end and I wanted more of an SQ build not SPL. It’s small in size which is great for my needs. I have it my C6 corvette and it’s installed behind the waterfall which is very limited as far as space. I was initially worried about overheating in such a place without clearance around it and little airflow but it hasn’t been an issue. Worked great for 2 and a half hour drive in the AZ heat so hopefully it won’t have issues. Would I buy it again, yes I would. It’s a great option for a 5 channel amp. Never bought an Orion product I wouldn’t recommend going back to the 80’s. This is from the low end line of products so I wasn’t expecting to shake bolts loose or anything. If they made one with twice the power on the sub channel I would be all over that. Overall this is well worth the price tag for sure. ... show more

  • Good amp
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
Works great, have a sub hooked up to the 5th channel. Haven't gotten the speakers hooked up yet but when I do I will update this review. Sub hits ok, its only a 10" pioneer shallow mount. The pioneer sub is made of harder material so it needs more power to push it. If I could do it over again I would get a different sub that didn't need so much power to push it. Sub does sound good but could bump harder and handle it. ... show more

  • Cobalt 1000.5D 5 channel amp

  • Excellent Power, Surprising Control, and True All-in-One Convenience, I'm Using This on 3 Subs.
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
I’ve been a car audio enthusiast since I was 17, starting with Orion’s GX and XTR series and later upgrading to their HCCA amps when I could afford them. I loved Orion’s sound and power, but eventually made the switch to Linear Power amps—those were true “ear candy” in both performance and build. Now, I’m trying to fill a 2000 Acura Integra with quality sound, and space is tight. The Orion Cobalt Elite CEA1000.5D was the perfect fit, and after putting it through its paces, I’m glad I made the return. Here’s why… I’ve been running the Orion Cobalt Elite CEA1000.5D in a mixed multi-sub setup, and it’s been a standout performer. I’m using the amp’s main 4 channels for my speakers and the dedicated sub channel to drive two 10" 4-ohm subs (bridged) plus a 12" dual 4-ohm sub wired in parallel for a 2-ohm load off channel 5. The results have been consistently impressive, both in output and in bass control. Real-World Power Delivery Despite being a single-chassis all-in-one amp, the sub channel doesn’t hold back. I’m reliably pulling 250–300W per 10" sub @4 ohm mono bridged and 400–500W into the 12" dual-coil at a total of 2 ohm. This produces a solid, clean output that keeps up with demanding tracks without straining. The Class-D architecture really shows in how efficiently it handles the load, keeping current draw and heat well within rated limits even during long sessions. Damping Factor & Control What really surprised me was the damping factor. I expected it to be average for a multi-channel amp in this class, but the bass is incredibly tight and well-controlled, even during heavy excursion. There’s minimal overhang, no flabby response, and the subs respond precisely. It’s clear the amp has robust current delivery and a well-designed output stage. Tuning & Convenience The independent HPF/LPF filtering on the main channels and the variable LPF on the sub channel make system tuning straightforward. I was able to dial in clean crossover points without needing an external DSP, and the bass boost is smooth rather than harsh. The integrated protection circuits also give peace of mind, no thermal shutdowns or fault warnings during heavy use. I am using my Epic Center crossovers from when I was younger but I did play with the built in and they worked well. Build & Installation The compact, all-in-one form factor is a huge win for clean installs. Dropping one amp for 3 subs instead of juggling multiple units saves space, simplifies wiring, and reduces potential issues. It’s clearly built for reliability, not just specs on paper. Verdict If you’re looking for a single, efficient, and highly tunable amplifier that can handle a mixed multi-sub setup without sacrificing control or clarity, the Orion Cobalt Elite CEA1000.5D delivers. It punches above its weight class, especially with its damping factor and real-world power delivery. Highly recommended for anyone simplifying their rig or upgrading from a basic 2 or 4 channel setup. These are a great value in all respect. ... show more

  • Always been a huge fan of the old Orion sister brands, this is a powerhouse!
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
I've been into car audio for >30 years now, mostly PPI, once a sister company to Orion and others. I am really happy to see more of these 5 channel amps coming out which satisfy the needs of someone who wants a single monolith in the trunk to power the doors and subs. It really cuts down on install complexity, space and headaches to have it all in one unit instead of cobbling together several different devices that all need power, grounds and turn-ons. The outside is classy looking, something really lacking in today's imports with plastic chrome spiders, etc. This setup will be plenty for most dad-aged enthusiasts who just want some thump in their daily, not the extremist trying to do hair tricks in the parking lot. I found the noise level acceptable, and it's what you should expect at this price level. It's honestly fine, this is for cruising on the road not IASCA competitions. Power-wise it will be fine with most modest component sets or drop in replacements. You can use factory speakers with this too, but you'll also have enough power to blow them so be wise. For the sub, this should be ok for any 8" sub in a sealed box up to a pair of very efficient 12's in a ported box. Don't pair this with a sub that needs 1000WRMS to move, that is not efficient enough-- get something you can wire down to 2 ohms and will take ~500WRMS or LESS. Finally, this amp does so much in a small package. It's east to fit on a subwoofer box or screwed into a board/back of a fold down seat. The wiring system is a great design, especially compared to old school amps. ... show more

  • Good build quality Good build quality
Size: 1000W 5-Channel
First impressions. I'm impressed with the build quality for the money. It's got some heft to it. And everything is metal. Basically a giant heatsink. Very efficient. Doesn't use much power. I only saw an average 10 amp increase running a multimeter at the battery terminal. Sound quality was about what you would expect for this price range. I did have a noticeable increase in noise during silent sections of music which is to be expected for a class d amplifier at this price range. That's the trade-off you make for the efficiency. And compact size compared to other designs like class A. ... show more
