  • [OAK SPREADER BAR]: Premium Oak hardwood that has been repeatedly hand-dipped in a honey gold marine-grade varnish for protection and longevity.

Description

The Pawleys Island Hammocks story goes back to Carolina Low Country more than 130 years ago. Joshua John Ward, a river boat captain, simply wanted a good night’s sleep during sultry summers. He set out with some rope and wood, a little gumption and grit and soon fashioned what would become the basis for our company— the rope hammock—a hand woven bed, two wooden spreader bars, a clew knot with a ring for hanging the hammock. Pretty simple when you think about it. DuraCord is the solution to the quest for performance yarns with the look and feel of cotton. DuraCord is constructed of man-made industrial yarn that has been augmented with ultraviolet inhibitors and further anti-microbial enhancements to prevent degradation from outdoor exposure; but it is virtually indistinguishable from cotton. It has fooled even the experts! SPECIFICATIONS: Length: 13 ft. x Width: 55 in. Bed Length: 6 ft. 10 in. Weight Capacity: 450 lbs. Hanging Distance: 14-16 ft. Hanging Height: 4 ft. This combination makes the rope All-Weather proof and resistant to rot, mold, and mildew. Oak is naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation. The spreader bars are repeatedly hand-dipped in honey-gold marine-grade varnish for exceptional look and longer outdoor life. Individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than most of our competitors. Read more DuraCord Rope Our own proprietary solution-dyed synthetic blend of rope, DuraCord, blends the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester. Made in the Carolinas, this combination yields a rope that has excellent color steadfastness and superior feel. DuraCord is dyed when spun, producing a rope that is colored all the way through. Like a carrot when sliced open, DuraCord has the same color on both the inside and the outside. Our DuraCord rope is the densest rope on the hammock market at 85 ft./lb., this results in less stretching and increased support when relaxing in your hammock. Oak Spreader Bar A wood that is naturally resistant to both rot and insect infestation, and has oils that repel water, Oak blends both exceptional strength and a handsome appearance. Our Oak spreader bars are repeatedly hand-dipped in honey-gold marine-grade varnish allowing a longer outdoor life and exceptional good looks. Our Oak spreader bars are a full 1 inch thick, compared to most other competitor’s spreader bars that measure at ⅞ inch. A thicker spreader bar allows more holes for rope, allowing the hammock bed to sit firmly on the hammock. Our spreader bars also feature countersink drilled holes. Countersink drilling is a technique that uses a trumpet drill bit that produces a hole with no hard angles, allowing the rope to pass through without any sharp edges to wear the rope. Double-Latch Weave All our Rope Hammocks are Handwoven by highly trained weavers that have mastered the technique of the Double-Latch Weave. This technique is best described when individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than our competitors, which provides a sturdier hammock bed for complete relaxation. Hardware We plate all our hanging hardware with Zinc Plated Coating, including both tree hooks that come standard with our hammocks. The zinc plated coating prevents the accumulation of rust and ensures a longer outdoor life. Our very own One- piece ring-knot and chain, a product of years of development, permanently attaches the chain to the O-ring. This produces a hammock that is more durable and most importantly makes it impossible to lose the chain. Note: Don't worry if your own Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock at first seems a little shorter than its advertised length; your hammock will soon reach its full length through natural stretching from initial use. • Most Under Rated Hammock on Amazon! Most Under Rated Hammock on Amazon!
Color: Brown
I almost didn't buy this hammock because of some of the other reviews. I have to say this is an amazing hammock. It looks so much better in person than the picture I can't even begin to describe how surprised and pleased I was when I took it out of the box. The ropes are so comfortable I suppose I may not have believed it had they said so. The craftsmanship is also top notch. The knots all seem very secure and look consistent with each other. The antique brown color looks so inviting that you'll just want to jump right on it. The spreaders are also look very classy, this is definitely a hammock I will want to show off to my friends. I've got some beautiful pics and will upload as soon as I figure out how. If you are on the ropes do not hesitate, this is one fine hammock!!! ***** Springtime here in New Mexico and I'm bringing my hammock to start its 5th season. Still no fraying or broken pieces. 5 years later and I still stand by my original comments!!! Keep in mind this hammock had stood up to the hot New Mexico sun!!! ... show more

  • Great quality, lasted 10 years
Color: Oatmeal
Loved this hammock. Comfortable rope, creamy color weathered to a good neutral. Not inexpensive, but lasted 10 years under oak trees with zero protection. Hammock itself is still fine, but one of the spreader bars eventually broke/rotted. It did occasionally get hit by large fallen tree branches, so that may have been a contributory factor. Going to try a cheaper one this time, but suspect it won't be as good and we'll be back for another of these. ... show more

  • LOVE THIS HAMMOCK!
Color: Oatmeal
We usually put the hammock outside. My husband put this one on our screen room on a whim. The grandkids enjoy it so much there and so do we. No bugs, no rain, no birds bother us now with it on this room. It is very well made, and it fits the LL Bean hammock stand we have had for years. We are 75, and the other hammock we had purchased kept throwing us on the ground. I put that one on the side of the road in front of the house and someone else younger than us can deal with it! (It was gone in 5 minutes.) If you need a hammock, just spend the money and get this hammock. It is worth it. ... show more

  • Top of the line, excellent - used entire summer
Color: Oatmeal
Absolutelty top-notch. I left it out in rain, shine and fog for 6 months now. Don't have the energy to get it inside each time it rains (and oh boy, did it rain this summer in Dallas!). Each time sun shines back, my hammock is as great-feeling, as shiny and as taut as new. This weekend I had a party in my backyard, and my guests turned on the rough heat a little bit - they were even using it as a swing, three adults at a time. I was a little concerned, but at the end it was as if nothing happened. Kind of the feeling you get after you complete your first cross-state long drive with your Honda or Toyota - you are concerned whether your car is OK, but that trip was not even as much as a dent on its mind-boggling robust engineering. Pawleys rocks! Mine and my wife's inexperience at the beginning resulted in a very scarily tangled up knot - all the hammock's ropes seemed to be tied to evry other piece of rope and passing through every other hole. But we slept on ot for a night, and gave it another shot next day. An intricate amount of mathematical calculations saved the day, and the hammock was straight again. It was us to blame in the first place - be careful to handle the hammock the right way. While rolling up, use the wood bars at the ends as anchor. Do not try fancy styles or get inattentive while rolling it up or down. ... show more

  • Overall, a great value!
Color: Oatmeal
I recently purchased this hammock for my parents to replace the one they currently had. They had left the previous hammock out in the rain, and some interesting growth was forming on the rope. I bought this particular hammock in the hopes that the Duracord would perform as promised- it would still look good after being left outside. It delivers on its promise and is still very comfortable! That being said, I do not find the Duracord to be quite as comfortable as the previous cotton cord hammock- the cotton was a softer material. The softness is not a huge deal, though, because the Duracord maintains its appearance nicely. I was also surprised to find that when I went out to the hammock after a heavy rainfall, the Duracord material was as dry as if it had been baking in the sun for the past 2 days. Outside of the Duracord material, I found this hammock to be nicely constructed overall. Some of the knots appear to be a little sloppy in how they were tied, but these knots are in an out of the way area of the hammock, so It'll be all right with no one or nothing messing with it. The wooden bars are nicely protected from the elements with the coating they put on it. Quick Recap: Pros- Awesome Duracord material looks nice, stays dry Solidly constructed hammock overall Cons- Duracord material not quite as soft as previous cotton hammock some knots are a little sloppy in how they were tied Overall Opinion- Great Hammock, definitely worth the cost! ... show more

  • Very comfortable and durable
Color: Green
I bought this hammock well over a year ago. While the manufacturer doesn't recommend it, I leave it out in the weather year round. Summer sun in Florida can be brutal. It's held up very well and maintained its green color without noticable fading. It's as comfortable as a cotton rope hammock with the durability of nylon, just as advertised. Review edit - 1.5 - 1.75 years of ownership: I purchased the Duracord model thinking it would hold up well if left outside. While the hammock itself has held up very well, the spreader bars did not. After only 1.5 - 1.75 years, the hammock roping looks just as it did when I bought it. However, BOTH of the spreader bars have essentially disintigrated and split completely in two in multiple locations. This renders the hammock itself useless. Pawleys Island needs to consider a different composition material for the spreader bars which will hold up as well as the roping itself. If you're thinking you're getting a hammock that will hold up well left outside and provide years of service, save your money and buy a cheaper cotton or polyester version. I would now only rate this hammock with 2 stars. ... show more
