So I am basically just your average family man who happens to be into knives, both folding (pocket) knives and kitchen knives (I cook a lot). I own several high quality japanese kitchen knives and over a dozen pocket knives. I also own whetstones and the Work Sharp sharpening system, which I've had for a few years. The problem with both stones and the Work Sharp system is that the knives still have to be held at the proper angle (manually by eye) in order to use them successfully. The Work Sharp system cuts down on time but at the end of the day, you still have to hold the knives correctly and STEADILY to get good results. The bottom line is I'm not that great at it. I have managed to keep a decent cutting edge on my knives over the years but certainly nothing special....until now. I am incredibly impressed with this package. First of all, the quality of everything in the kit is great, including the case. There are slots for each individual item, even the eraser! It is magnificently SIMPLE to use and makes no noise, unlike the Work Sharp system which is unfortunately loud, not to mention much more complicated. I literally just received this about an hour ago and already used it on my three main kitchen knives, the results I got are shocking. I was in no way able to get this kind of edge on my knives using the Work Sharp, no matter how long I did it for. The simple reason is because of what I mentioned above - the angle has to be held manually...it doesn't with this kit. The magnetic block that holds the knife is extremely strong, even the largest knives don't move even when being ground with the 400 grit stone. And the angle can be precisely set with the adjustment wheel. The other side that holds the stones is perfectly designed with little wheels on the bottom that move very smoothly (and silently). It still takes a little time to get a hair popping edge, but again its so easy to use that you can learn to do it fast and really can't mess it up. I am so glad I laid out the 140 bucks for the full kit, it is so well worth the money. If you know how to use whetstones and are good with them, you have no reason to buy something like this. But for the average guy like me, it is well worth it. It has to be the quickest and easiest way to get professional results, which it absolutely does deliver.

Pros: Quality construction - device is made of solid parts that work well down to the smallest details like the smooth rolling of the tiny wheels. Excellent results - I had some knives with terrible chips and pitting, a couple of hours watching TV with this in front of me and they've all got brand new edges Value - there's a lot of rolling knife sharpeners out there but this is not only more reasonably priced than most of them, it's also just a much better design Cons: Shavings - as you sharpen, metal shavings will accumulate on the knife holder. Since they'll metal and have been magnetized they'll stick to everything and they're difficult to clean off. I think I'm going to get a cleaning putty and see how that works. Knife size - there's definitely a point where a knife's blade becomes a bit too shallow for the knife holder to properly grip it with the magnets. Given the general quality and effectiveness of the device I don't think the design needs to be changed. Rather I think they should make a second knife holder that you can buy for small knives. Instead of an inch from the top of the magnetic plate shorten it to a half inch and use a bar shaped magnet instead of two circles. It wouldn't work for larger knives because of the leverage but the existing holder works amazing for them as it is. Giving it 5 stars because the cons are really not that big of a deal and the product is clearly well thought out, attention has been paid to quality, and Parkway Home priced it reasonably in a world where companies seem to take every opportunity to price gouge.

This is a nice high quality product and I really like that you can set the grinding angle with precision for a wide variety of angles. The sharpening stones seem durable and well constructed. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work well with with smaller knives like paring knives or petit blades. Did a very nice job on my larger kitchen knives.

This sharpener is the only product in recent memory that has anything like an instrument quality build. The fit and finish is superb! Kudos tp Parkway Home. There is no slop in the angle setting, so repeatability will be great! (Mind you, I wouldn't have objected to a bit less force being required to adjust it.) Several people have mentioned feeling that the magnets may not be strong enough, and while that could be true in certain situations, Neodymium magnets are easy to get via Amazon, other online sources, or locally at hobby stores or well stocked hardware stores. Carefully add one or more to the outside of the blade at the point of the ones on the sharpener, and ... Bob's your uncle! Another thing mentioned was a desire for a somewhat larger version, I would like to see this as well. This one is absolutely terrific for home or travel, but a larger set for the shop would be great as well. Thank you for making this product available, and for the attention to detail with which it is made!
