  • Inspiring story of the journey towards happiness & organization
Admittedly, when I bought this book I thought it would give me room by room instructions for how to organize every space in my house. In a way it is that, but it is so much more. I have described this book to friends as a cross between a personal memoir and a de-cluttering self-help book. Laura's book is an inspiring story of the journey towards happiness and self-fulfillment by simplifying our surroundings and unburdening ourselves from all the things that weigh us down, not just the clutter in our homes, but the clutter in our day to day lives. After a successful career as a teacher, Laura took the proverbial plunge towards her own self-fulfillment by leaving the classroom and her comfortable life in the 'burbs to buying an actual hoarded house and becoming her own boss with her home organizing business. It was delighfully suspenseful at times and Laura's writing style made me feel like I was reading through a good friend's personal journal ---relatable and very down-to-earth. A quick but compelling read, it left me feeling inspired to give careful consideration to the goals in my own life, how I spend my time both at work and home, and where to keep all those extra lids to the multiplying plastic food containers in my kitchen. (hint - toss them!). I highly recommend this book. ... show more

  • That is a very relatable book
The thing that I like about the book is that it relates. A person can go through drift and listen and follow what other people tell them to do; and not what they want to do. Actually, if you live in cluttered environments you do not have the chance to slow down and follow your heart. You spend time dealing with it. It controls you. You will not be happy. But if you take the time to clear away stuff, you would have some clarity as to what you want and to be happy. ... show more

  • Entertaining and Motivating
I absolutely love this book. It gave me exactly what I needed: emotional motivation. While this is not a typical step-by-step, room-by-room organizing handbook, it is actually much easier to read than an instructional book. How-to books can be quite tedious to work through. This one is very entertaining, and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next with the house situation! On the surface, I would agree with one reviewer about the huge risks Laura took -- but actually, that is not the point! The point is to follow your intuition -- and you can do that at any risk level you feel comfortable with. That is exactly why this book resonated with me. I am working on learning to follow my intuition, both for organizing my home and for finding a new passion and possibly a different career. Letting go of things is extremely hard for me (for fear that I will need them down the road), but this intuitive approach will help. ... show more

  • Not impressed
I bought this book in hopes of finding something-anything that related to my particular life circumstances. I’m older, recently remarried, and dealing with combining the lives of 2 people with many duplicate household items. I live in a home far too small and very old. Tiny closets, Tiny rooms with multiple doors and windows, no storage, no garage. I have a passion for clothes, shoes, purses and make up. I now have no place to put these things. I resist getting rid of what little I have left of my past, and letting go of what Brings me joy is painful. Packing them away in bins is difficult because there is no where to store the bins. I was hoping this book might give me insight into what really does bring me joy and how to let go of excess even if it is important to me. It didn’t. I felt I was reading the story of someone else’s life that in no way related to my issues. What suggestions/questions offered were limited and the same ones I’ve heard from every other source I’ve researched. Perhaps for a younger person this story would be inspirational, but it didn’t inspire me or offer any new coping ideas. Perhaps I simply didn’t grasp the concept. Sorry for a negative review. The book is fine, an interesting story of one woman’s journey. It just wasn’t what I needed. ... show more

  • Easy read, well written, and inspiring!
I was told about this book two years ago when I was in the teacher's work room, sharing with another colleague that I felt like I was constantly rushed from one thing to the next with teaching. She told me about Laura's book, and I actually bought it for a friend who aspires to be a professional organizer. However, when I helped my friend move from her house to move in with her new husband, I found the book unread. I mean who has time to read when you're planning a wedding? She let me take it back, and I finished this book in two days. I love the organization of this book. I originally thought this was going to be a how-to-organize self-help book as I read through the table of contents. But as I read through each chapter, I realized she set up the book in a flow of how she organizes-- as she organized her personally life and told her story. Not only is this book an easy to read narrative, but she also serves as a guide to help you realize the clutter you need to sift through in your own life. Thank you for giving us such intimate details to your story and sharing the risks you and your family took for a more fulfilling, abundant life. Of course there were parts I didn't really need to know, like your juice fast or weird parts about the former resident of your new house; but ya know, it's just all a part of the weird journey. Thanks for sharing all your hard work! ... show more

  • Absolutely loved it!!
I absolutely loved reading this book. It was so inspiring. I could really connect with it because I absolutely love gutting and organizing my own home. I could feel myself connecting with Laura’s emotions over just about everything that is written in this book. As I read it I couldn’t wait to find out How things were resolved. I just got done reading it and right now I’m getting ready to go sit on my front porch on this glorious beautiful day and start writing in my notebook all the questions that are asked at the end of each chapter and at the end of the book. I am looking forward to answering these questions and doing a vision board. Something I’ve never done before but have heard about in the past. Thank you Laura for writing this wonderful inspirational book, I truly enjoyed it! Happy decluttering and organizing. Becky 😊:-) ... show more
