Description

From the Manufacturer Oregon is a world leader in mower blade manufacturing. Our patented Gator Mulcher 3-N-1 blades redirect the airflow allowing the grass clippings to be cut into small pieces. They will allow mowers not equipped with a mulching blade to reduce the volume of blade clippings and will reduce your fall leaf cleanup time. Unlike most mulching blades, they will allow you to bag your clipping and leaves, but because the pieces you will stop less often. Blades are made to a 26 point quality checklist that insures our blades meet exacting standards and give you a great looking lawn. We offer blades to fit many brands of walk behind and riding mowers.

  • Excellent, Expensive, Worth It!
This is our second purchase of these blades. Our first set performed so well that we decided to order them again! For seven seasons we tried every blade from Amazon and elsewhere that fit our Craftsman 42" mower. Some of the blades didn't even last the season without bending, distorting or just requiring resharpening when cutting our acre of thick Zeon Zoysia grass. We found the blades manufactured by Oregon generally superior to others we tried. These Gator blades are really no more resistant to bending or becoming dull than other heavy-duty Oregon blades, and they are more expensive. What makes them worth it is their performance. They cut cleanly into very fine pieces and distribute the pieces relatively evenly into the lawn, with or without the mulching attachment installed. The result is faster mowing, less raking and a very pretty lawn! ... show more

  • looks beefy - fits craftsmen 42" deck
I own a Craftsman 17HP riding lawnmower with a 42" deck. After 5 seasons of use I managed to ruin the original set of mulching blades. I bought these as my replacement to the factory mulching blades. The length of these new blads is exactly the same as the factory blades, they are perceptibly thicker - maybe a millimeter but the width is about 1/4 wider however the blade still swings within the deck. Between being slightly thicker and a 1/4 wider the blade is heavier and has a "beefier" presence to it. The "star" pattern around the central hole exactly matches the factory original. Its worth saying the blades comes with thick factory coat of paint that covers everything including the cutting edge. Because of the thick coat of paint its hard to tell how sharp - "factory sharp" might be. Because of this my plan is to lightly dress/sharpen the blades before first use. Because I have not made a cut yet I cannot speak as to how well (or not) these blades behave to the factory blades. The original factory blades have a different set of curves in them to create lift so cut grass/material is flipped in the air for additional re-cutting (mulching). This blade uses its own design for creating the lift. I know nothing about lift design but the factory blades seems "better" to my uneducated eye as it involves more of the shaft of the blade to create lift then this replacement blade does. Other reviewers gave high praise on the finished look of their lawn with this blade, I will assume they are correct and despite the difference in design the new blade will perform the same or better than the factory original ... show more

  • Better than OEM blades... stay sharp longer, and cost less
I've used Craftsman blades on my Craftsman lawn tractor for years. I sharpen them every 25 hours, and replace them yearly (after about 100 hours). I started using these Oregon blades two years ago. The Oregon blades stay sharper much longer, and I resharpen them annually even though they really aren't dull yet. I bought a second set of blades this year so I could exchange blades for sharpening. I wouldn't want to go back to using OEM blades. The Oregon blades are a little noisier than the OEM blades but it's not objectionable. The Oregon blades seem to do a better job of mulching, but it's subjective on my part. And as a bonus, they cost substantially less than the OEM blades. ... show more

  • Good, tough and heavy duty.
These blades live on my Husqvarna 42" 20hp mower. I live in an area where rocks grow almost as fast as the weeds. The blades are far thicker and heavier than stock blades or Home Depot type replacement blades. I made it through the mowing season without having to replace them, which is a first for me. With other blades, while mowing thick grass, my discharge chute would clog frequently. I have not had that problem with these blades. The only downside I can see to these blades is that if you live in a rocky area it will make it tougher on the rest of your mower, i.e. belts, pulleys and mandrels...these blades don't "give" as readily when they hit something besides grass. For my purposes and the results I expect, these blades are 5+. ... show more

  • STICK WITH OEM BLADES
I might as well have been using a sledge hammer to cut my lawn! These blades are much heavier and thicker than the OEM blades and are the dullest blades that I have ever used. Straight out of the package you would expect new blades to have a good edge to them.. Not these. My old blades were cutting OK, but I wanted to "upgrade" to a better mulch blade and am very disappointed. I just cut my lawn and these blades just knocked a lot of the grass over without cutting it. I guess if you have a large field and not a lawn, they might be acceptable. Halfway through the job, I stopped and put the old OEM blades back on. They cut 100X better than these Gator Mulchers even though they are over a year old and have never been sharpened. ... show more

  • Disappointed
I have a Craftsman yard tractor with a 21 HP engine. I bought these blades (2) to replace the Craftsman mulching blades I was currently using. I was having issues with some clumping so I thought these blades would solve that issue based on reviews. I received them and had to put an edge on the blade. I was skeptical about them from the beginning due to having only 4 1/2 inches of cutting edge on each side of a 21 inch blade. I've mowed with them for over a month and finally put my old blades back on. They have 8 1/2 inch cutting edges on each side. The Gator blades did stop the clumping; however the grass was not evenly cut leaving single spriggs sticking up all over the place. I had to do half width cuts to make up for it to get an even cut. I was mowing on speed 3 of 6 so I was not going too fast and it cut that way regardless of damp grass or dry. I will keep them around for an emergency set but I won't use them for cutting so I feel I wasted my money. ... show more
