10 star product if you buy the vanilla ice cream flavor!!!!
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 10 Pound (Pack of 1)
Texture mixes easily, works as a replacement for breakfast or add a scoop to any. Breakfast cereal to make it healthier. Scoop size is as described. Taste better than ANY OTHER protein powder I’ve ever tried. Loaded with great stuff, no sugar or junk and still tastes great!! I use it in oatmeal and feel great!! I’m almost a vegetarian and need it. Works great! I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Pricy but worth it to us regarding all of the above. My hubby mixes it in with his Honey Nut Cheerios and it tastes great. Just dissolve in milk first and your kids will never know how health you just made their cold breakfast cereal because it tastes that good!!!! ... show more

I've had some "premium" protein that I didn't care for because while it mixed great, it tasted terrible
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
----Introduction---- We all know that whey protein works. It's one of the cheapest and most convenient ways to reach your protein goals if you can't get there with meals. "Cheaping out" on your whey doesn't always pan out, as anyone who has choked down a less expensive (but clumpy) tub of protein. Paying top dollar doesn't always guarantee positive results either. I've had some "premium" protein that I didn't care for because while it mixed great, it tasted terrible! I always seem to come back to ON whey protein because it fits the bill on all accounts (at least for me). ----Ingredient Profile---- It's got whey! (hey!). Around 24g of protein per scoop (~31g) you get a fair amount of protein, with the rest left over for "other stuff". The "other stuff" being 1g of fat and 3g of carbs, with one gram of those carbs coming from sugar. All this is from ONE label that I found (chocolate malt flavor), but if you look around the net at other labels of this product, you'll see slightly different numbers. What's up with that? The variance is most likely due to the MANY different flavors ON has on the market. The flavor will also affect what sweetener is used, as I have seen acesulfame potassium and sucralose (better known as the brand name Splenda) both alone and in combination depending on the flavor. It's good to be aware that this variance exists, but for most it shouldn't matter too much. I'm sure you can find other whey's with a tighter carb/sugar/fat/protein ratio, so if you're micromanaging your macros you might be concerned. But overall I think it's pretty good. On the topic of artificial sweeteners: I feel that artificial sweeteners are safe for the most part. Some people might disagree, but much of the clinical literature I have read (regarding aspartame, saccharine, and sucralose specifically) has indicated that they are safe in most people. Most problems I have heard are that people have trouble digesting large amounts of the stuff and get diarrhea. However, I feel that they are better than the amount of sugar (I.E., empty calories) it takes to achieve a similar sweetness. These are just my own thoughts and opinions, so use your best judgment. ----Taste---- Here is where a protein powder can really shine, in my opinion. With upwards to 24 different flavors, you're bound to find one that you like. I've tried a handful of them and they were great. My go-to has been the double rich chocolate, as I can add some peanut butter to it if I want to add some more calories/make it taste even better. I would recommend that you pick a flavor that you REALLY like before investing in a 10lb bag (strawberry got old after a while). ----Mixability---- ON's Whey always mixes easily and cleanly in both milk and water, with very little (if any) clumpage. The labeling states that you can stir it up with a spoon, but I recommend sticking to a good ol' shaker bottle. Full marks here. ----Dosing---- Dosing is easy peasy, just scoop up however much you need. One scoop per serving is pretty standard for most powders, with 24g per serving being normal as well. ----Effectiveness---- I can state with great certainty that ON's protein is effective. Working in the field that I do, some jobs in the past have had me working 12 hours a day with no breaks. Oftentimes, this would be my only source of protein (and sometime my only source of nutrition, period). Despite these conditions I was still able to hit my daily protein goals. I did have some digestive issues when I first started supplementing protein, but that was mostly because I made such a drastic change in my eating habits. Those have long since subsided, and my gut bacteria enjoy processing my protein without complaint. Also, Labdoor.com (an independent supplement testing lab) gave ON's Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein an A-. I feel that the "minus" comes from the inclusion of artificial sweeteners, which labdoor.com marks as "controversial". As I've said previously, I feel these claims are overstated. ----Value---- The best value is to buy in bulk, and ON offers a whopping 10lb bag for around $110 on amazon. That averages out to about 75 cents a serving, so I feel that I'm getting my money's worth. The most commonly carried size by most brick-and-mortar stores is the 5lb tubs, but sizes go all the way down to a 1.8lb package if you aren't a monster consumer like myself. Do note that not all flavors are carried in all sizes, as the 10lb bags are limited to around 5 flavors. ----Side Effects---- You might experience some cramping if you're new to supplementing protein, but that's usually because your body is getting used to processing protein in such a large bolus. It should pass fairly quickly. For those that still have problems, you might have issues processing whey in general. I have heard of people having success in switching to other protein sources such as soy in these cases. ----Conclusion---- If you want a whey protein that is affordable, mixes well, tastes great, and works, look no further. While you can probably find some other whey's with a slimmer carb profile, it won't beat ON's Gold Standard by much. Highly recommended. ... show more

Smooth Recovery, Solid Gains, Zero Clumps!
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
Review Image by Evan W
Great protein for daily recovery. I’ve been using Gold Standard protein for a few months now, and it’s become part of my workout routine that I actually look forward to. The chocolate flavor really hits the spot, mixes smooth, never clumps, and doesn’t upset my stomach at all. Since using it, I’ve noticed faster recovery, solid strength gains, and I’ve even put on a few solid pounds of muscle. I do 1.5 scoops, that way I hit my protein goal, but don’t take in so much that I can’t digest. If you’re looking for something reliable, tasty, and gentle on the stomach, this one’s a win. ... show more

Great with coffee
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 2 Pound (Pack of 1)
I’ve tried a lot of protein powders over the years, and the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Extreme Milk Chocolate is easily one of the best. The flavor is rich and smooth without tasting chalky or overly artificial. Mixed with cold water it tastes like a lighter chocolate milk, and with milk it’s more like a creamy milkshake. My favorite way to drink it is actually in my morning black coffee. I add a scoop or two after the coffee cools slightly, shake it up, and it turns into an amazing mocha-style drink. Seriously—yum!! It’s a great way to start the day with a solid dose of protein while enjoying my morning caffeine. The powder mixes extremely well with just a shaker bottle—no clumps or grit—and each serving delivers 24 grams of high-quality whey protein, making it perfect after workouts or as a quick protein boost during the day. The 2 lb container is a great size to try the flavor without committing to a huge tub. If you enjoy sweeter chocolate flavors, Extreme Milk Chocolate is a winner. I’ve found it to be much more enjoyable than many other chocolate protein powders I’ve tried, and it’s become my go-to protein supplement. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great taste, quality ingredients, and reliable results. ... show more

Great Protein Powder, but the Broken Chain Made Storage Frustrating
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 10 Pound (Pack of 1)
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey in Extreme Milk Chocolate is one of the better protein powders I have used, and the actual product quality is very good. The flavor is smooth, the chocolate taste is enjoyable, and it mixes easily without needing too much shaking. Whether I mix it with water or milk, the texture comes out pretty smooth and not overly thick. The nutrition profile is also a big reason I like it. With 24g of whey protein per serving, plus BCAAs, it works well for daily protein goals, post-workout shakes, or adding protein into a busy routine. It does not feel too heavy, and the Extreme Milk Chocolate flavor is easy to drink consistently compared to some other protein powders that get boring or overly sweet. The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the packaging issue. I got the 10-pound size, which is a lot of protein powder, so storage is very important. Unfortunately, the sealing chain/zipper area was broken, which made it hard to close properly after opening. With such a large amount of powder, not having a reliable way to reseal and store it is frustrating. I had to figure out another storage option just to keep it fresh and avoid mess. The protein itself is excellent, and I would still recommend it based on taste, mixability, and quality. But for a 10-pound package, the bag or seal needs to be much stronger and more dependable. Overall, great whey protein, but the broken seal made storage inconvenient. Four stars. ... show more

Truly the gymbro standard
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
In the realm of fitness supplements, it's rare to come across a product that not only meets but exceeds your expectations. Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder in Extreme Milk Chocolate flavor is one such gem that has set a high bar for quality and effectiveness in the industry. Having experimented with various brands over the years, I can confidently say that nothing comes close to the quality offered by this product. Unlike other protein powders that can become monotonous or unpleasant over time, this flavor is so well-crafted that it's a delight to consume daily. It’s rich, creamy, and has that perfect balance of sweetness and chocolate intensity, making it easy to look forward to your post-workout shake or a protein-packed snack anytime. Beyond its appealing taste, the real value of this whey protein lies in its effectiveness. Since integrating it into my fitness regimen, I've noticed a significant impact on muscle building and recovery. The high-quality protein, combined with a comprehensive amino acid profile, supports lean muscle synthesis and aids in recovery after rigorous workouts. It's evident that this product is designed not just for taste but for optimal physical performance. Another noteworthy feature is its mixability. Many protein powders tend to clump, leaving you with an unpleasant, gritty texture. However, with a good shaker, the Gold Standard Whey dissolves effortlessly into liquid, creating a smooth and enjoyable shake. While experiences may vary, I found that clumping was never an issue with this product, which speaks volumes about its formulation. Packaging and convenience are also commendable. The 5-pound option provides excellent value, ensuring you have a steady supply of high-quality protein. Moreover, the packaging is durable and designed to maintain the freshness of the powder. In conclusion, Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder is more than just a supplement; it's a crucial component of a fitness lifestyle that prioritizes quality, taste, and results. The Extreme Milk Chocolate flavor is a standout choice for anyone looking to enhance their protein intake without compromising on taste or effectiveness. Probably best protein overall
Flavor Name: Extreme Milk Chocolate Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I think it’s much better than muscle milk and other brands I’ve tried. It dissolves easily in water and has a high protein content per gram of powder. It is a little more expensive than some other brands but when you actually do the math of how much protein you are getting in a container, the price is the same or even a bit less than some other “cheaper” brands. The taste is OK. ... show more
